Regional Competition Websites

If your team looks at the Regional Competition Websites, what information do you look for?

Re: Regional Competition Websites

Well, when I look at the regional website, I want to see what teams are going to be at that regional, maybe some pictures from the past robotic regional competitions and also video of this year's competition.

Also I like to see what there is to do around the regional site, like attractions or food vendors.

Re: Regional Competition Websites

Some main things I'd look for:

1. Event Details - location/venue, date, maps, directions, parking logistics, unloading logistics, agenda
2. Surrounding Area - hotels, restaurants, maps, things to do.
3. Brief description of the game and rules
4. Is there a Team Social
5. Attending teams (can just link to FIRST site)
6. Any other regional unique items - FLL, scholarships, tours, etc.
7. Information on Volunteering (sign-ups, descriptions, etc)
8. History of Regional (if it has one)
9. Contact number/email (for questions people might ask)
10. Video or Photos from past events
11. Having a webcast?
12. If you can have someone update to show rankings and results every so often during the event
13. Sponsors
14. Anything else that would pertinent to that event or FIRST that teams should know about. Most times it's better to have too much info than not enough.

Re: Regional Competition Websites

None of our 2005 proposed events currenty have a dedicated website (UTC New England & NJ) and if they do, I have no idea where they are and how to find them. (re: I've never stumbled on them)

If they did, I would want them to have:
- detailed info of the venue and
- detailed info of the surrounding areas such as:
- lodging,
- restaurants
- areas to get spare/replacement parts for broken parts on the robot
and a webcast for the event itself if at all possible.

Oh, and links to the team's websites who are coming would be great for scouting, and what not too.

Re: Regional Competition Websites

I'd like to see all the regionals just have websites, of any sort.

Right now about a third of the regionals don't have any kind of website.

It seems like some of the ones that do have websites don't have much beyond the basic information that can't be found on the FIRST website.

Things I'd like to see in each website:

*info about venue, including pictures of pit and spectator areas.

*information about the surrounding area, ie: entertainment, food, lodging, useful places (home depot, Ace hardware, Osh, Lowes, Radioshack, etc).

*photos and/or videos from prior years.

*information about getting involved in helping the regional

*information about FIRST/the game (for the benefit of those outside FIRST looking to attend the regional)

I look them over for additional information and pitcutes from the event but I find most of the event sites are not very well updated so I don't visit them that often.

I'm hoping the other Regional Planning Committees are listening. When I was a team mentor I wanted this type of info, too.

There are plans to have a UTC NER website...

I always try to visit the regional websites. Because I am from the GTR I use the site a lot. I find the forums are a great way to help teams, share resources and trade for parts. I personally like the GTR setup so I will post a link for you to see and comment if you wish.

When I was part of 384 I looked for pictures (they hired a good photographer for the event) and more particular information about the regional FIRST might not include on the USFIRST site.

Re: Regional Competition Websites

to add to the list of questions I ask before seriously considering,

What seperates this regional from the other regionals?

and if there is a competition website, I'll look at it for any information they have, simply put there never really is too much information on a regional website.
