Re: 2006 Palmetto Regional

After winning Purdue we are pumped to be in our own backyard!!

I'm still a little cold from Purdue so I hope Columbia will be warm!

This is by far going to be my favorite regional and I can't wait to see all the SC teams in the house!!

:)

I'm driving down Saturday morning and booking it back for a concert in Spartanburg Satruday night. Mmm what I'll do for robotics.

Hmmmmmm................

If I book a roundtrip flight from West Palm to Hartford (through Charlotte) for business next Tuesday and Wednesday, it's $234.

If I book the exact same route, except leave off the flight from Charlotte back to West Palm, it's $545!

If I then add a leg from Charlotte to Columbia, it drops to $304.

Book round trip, don't check bags, get off in Charlotte, pay for Billfred's gas and dinner to come get me in Charlotte, come back on the bus with the team ........priceless.

The Palmetto Regional will be awesome. Here are stats on teams:

13 states are represented
24 teams are from SC
5 teams are rookies (all for SC)
21 have played in at least one previous regional this year
2 were ranked in the top eight (180 and 337)
3 were "picking" teams (94, 180, 337)
15 played in the finals
9 won their QF
6 won their SF (16, 180, 281, 343, 818, 1319)
3 won their Regional (180, 343, 1319) with their alliance, of course

Team 34 (The Rockets) will be at Palmetto.

Our team did well last week at Peachtree. We made it to the QF. :)

This week we go long distance to hang out with the left coast teams at Sacramento.

Then we travel to Palmetto with two weeks of game experience and hopefully a bug free machine.

See 'ya soon. :D

Ed, congrats on Peachtree. If you look at the stats Palmetto will be tough. Hope to see you there!

Palmetto will be tough, but we plan to make it to the top this year.

Funny, we're hoping to do the same thing. (Good thing there's room for three or four at the top!)

The word around Swearingen is that WIS-TV will be doing their morning show from the Colonial Center as well. This year, they've also tapped some of the robots to show off a bit on the air. (Robots on live TV. Duck and cover! ;))

As a teammate of mine would say, par-tay.

Great to see you in Atlanta....enjoyed watching you bot....like always 34 stands out. Talk about road trips...you guys should win an award for the most consecutive regionals with the greatest distance traveled....an I was complaining about having to drive to Hilton Head, SC for meetings this week. Good luck in CA....I'll be checking the standings and awards...see you in Palmetto. Frank

Lee, thanks for doing this homework for Palmetto...crazy that I don't get to see one of my teammates...but currently in meetings out of town for this week...then back in Columbia..next Wednesday for Palmetto. Lee, lets add to this list after this weeks regionals....you are right...Palmetto is shaping up to be an awesome competition. Keep tweaking!...see you next week. Frank

Looks like teams 34 (Sacramento) and 68 (Waterloo) are the only teams from Palmetto competing this weekend so the stats won't change much. Those 2 teams and 1319 are the only teams to attend 2 regionals prior to Palmetto.

Hey, just wondering if anyone wants to go out with me at lunch or dinner (if late) at the competition? just PM me if you are interested.

I don't know about any of you, but I'm so excited for Palmetto!

Our team is getting on a bus at 5 am Wednesday to get down there!

Can't wait to meet you all, see your robots in action, and compete!

Good Luck to all!

Since we are All the way from Michigan, we should leave at Midnight Tues. But someone didn't think about our teams opinions and now we're leaving at 6:00 A.M. Wed. to "SOMEHOW" arive there at 6:00 P.M. but it will more likely be like 10:00 P.M. so if anyone sees a tired team, it'll probably be us!

I'm thinking we'll be better off than you... but not by that much, since we're estimating like an 8 o'clock arrival which isn't too bad except you're on a bus that long...

When in doubt, I'll stop by your pit and attempt to wake you up. :p
