IMHO?

What do you guys think of when you see this in a post? Some people I know think of "in my honest opinion," others I know think of "in my humble opinion." What about y'all?

David Kelly 24-07-2001 22:57

the first one

Andy A. 24-07-2001 23:12

I always assume humble, unless I'm using it. In that case its 'in my holy opinion'.

Go figure.

-Andy

David Kelly 24-07-2001 23:21

whoops, i meant the 2nd one. i read it too fast.

Karl 24-07-2001 23:30

I think it means somebody was too lazy to type out what they meant so they decided to use a trite and meaningless contraction.

yeah...whatever he said

me, humble.

Bill Gold 25-07-2001 00:06

when i say that i mean "humble"

Flair 25-07-2001 01:14

In My Honest Opinion

I always thought it meant this, cuz I thought it meant that your trueful about what your saying. Switching the word, might just change the meaning...

Matt Leese 25-07-2001 09:20

As far as I know, it originally meant "In My Humble Opinion" (that's at least what it was back around '95). That also explains the etymology of IMNSHO.

Matt

thats what i thought...ive never actually heard anyone explain it as honest...
oh and karl, youre probably right, at least when i say it.
mike who knows hes lazy

EddieMcD 25-07-2001 15:27

*sicks the man/shark/sub thingie on Andy*

IMHO (yes, that's holy in my case), only I may have a holy opinion.

Estoy El Sacerdote Grande!

Christina 25-07-2001 17:21

Hmm...when I first saw it, I thought it was in my honest opinion. But as I thought about it, in my humble opinion seemed to make more sense. So, I guess I'll have to go with the latter.

WOOHOO! I'M RIGHT!(well, probably at least). I guess there IS a first time for everything.

David Kelly 25-07-2001 20:23

my sister actually uses these things like "lol" "gtg" while she talks on the phone. she's about 13 or something and i always make fun of her for doing it.

A. Leese 25-07-2001 21:14

I'm not sure exactly what it really means..but I've always heard in my humble opinion. then again..if you really are humble..you put others first and you really shouldn't be worried about giving your opinion..just my two cents (whether I made sense or not..haha! a dumb pun!)

Maybe you should post that as a symptom on the FIRST-aholics web site. I know that Anton says lol when he's talking to people, it cracked me up at nats.

Er, please no. That has nothing to do with FIRST in any way, shape, or form. And I don't want to be associated with that. ;)

Matt

I'd say thats a smart move

Carolyn Duncan 26-07-2001 20:53

OK. Maybe it's a sign that you spend too much time on the computer.

mike o'leary 27-07-2001 15:58

thats what antons problem was...

That's hilarious! When ever my mom does something like that she tries to play it off and act cool (usually making things worse).

mike o'leary 27-07-2001 19:52

ok i know i shouldve noticed this before, but nice avatar carolyn...did you make it yourself? and it also explains youre new title

EddieMcD 28-07-2001 09:27

Geez Fishy, get with the times.

mike o'leary 28-07-2001 14:08

letters...you know, i honestly dont think ive ever written a letter. oh wait no there was that time in 6th grade that i wrote a letter. but other then that, and thank you notes after my birthday and christmas...
anyways i dont think thank you letters really count cuz they pretty much all say the same thing.

Nope! didn't make it myself, I've tried making them but they just don't ever turn out right. Maybe I just don't get it and don't realize it.

No David, they don't still make letters. Individuals who want to send them write them. And I send them often, to Germany and across the US.

EddieMcD 29-07-2001 18:57

Yes, we call it snail mail. ;)

Eddie,
Think of who you're talking to..yes, I still do write letters. Some people are actually lucky enough to receive one from me. :)

~Angela who has never really been "with the times"

David Kelly 29-07-2001 23:31

i think the 1st and only time i wrote a letter was in the 2nd grade. it was to some penpal or something

Flair 30-07-2001 00:36

Well if thankyou letter don't count, them I'm letter free!!! Snail mail? Sounds like some kinda slow predator!

Carolyn,
What program do you use when you try to make avatars? I just use micrografx windows draw. It can create animated gifs, thats all i need.

Well peace out ya'll!

Yes, Eddie, I am familliar with the term "snail mail." I also know that I rather get snail mail sometimes than emails. You don't crap from people who just sit down and start typing email addresses in sequence or forwarded crap that no one wants anyway. You get a personal message from someone who actually took the time to write to you. TO me that's way better.

EddieMcD 31-07-2001 15:01

Well, I'd sit down and write if I had decent penmanship.

Carolyn Duncan 31-07-2001 21:06

Anyone can have decent penmanship. All you have to do is take your time and think about what you're writing. Try it, you'll see what I mean.

you havent seen me...

David Kelly 31-07-2001 21:34

my hand writing is atrocious

all my teachers say that my hand writing is terrible. some of them say they won't accept it cause it's so bad. so what if i'm left handed. left is right and right is wrong.

mike o'leary 31-07-2001 21:35

up till 6th grade we had a spot on our report card for penmenship...my hightest grade in that was a c

EddieMcD 31-07-2001 22:01

You haven't seen me either. Why do you think I spend so much time on the computer?

Carolyn Duncan 31-07-2001 23:09

Lefties have rights too!
I used to left handed until 1st grade when my teachers started cracking my knuckles with a yard stick for writing with my left hand. It was private school and considered a sign of the devil or something. Anyways, after I left private school I started writing with my left hand again. I t was hard but I had to slow myself down and work on my penmanship. Once I got my skills back and stopped having to think about writing so much, I broke my finger. It was so badly broken that I cannot hold things in my left hand anymore for writing, the finger gets in the way. Anyway, the point is if you want to have good penmanship you can if you slow down and practice.

Eddie, do you really want me to respond to this post? You really opened up the door on this one.

EddieMcD 01-08-2001 10:20

Yes, I really do want you to answer it. Why do you think I asked?

mike o'leary 01-08-2001 20:57

cant resist this one...eddie the reason why you spend so much time on the computer is cuz you have no life. either that or youve foolishly duct taped youreself to the chair and the chair to the computer.

Carolyn Duncan 01-08-2001 21:01

I was going for the lack of romantic life angle. That's why I gave the option of my answering.

mike o'leary 01-08-2001 21:06

ah...same thing

Carolyn Duncan 01-08-2001 21:09

But oh so different.

mike o'leary 01-08-2001 21:10

it probably explains eddies odd expression in his pic

Carolyn Duncan 01-08-2001 21:13

That's a blow below the belt. I wouldn't go that far.

mike o'leary 01-08-2001 21:14

he does have a goofy expression. says me who is not at all photogenic (notice the lack of a picture...there is one that was posted here on cd but it only showed my back)

Carolyn Duncan 01-08-2001 21:18

Yes he does have a goofy expression. Like I'm photogenic. All of my pics turn out reall bad. Some of your fellow rambots have pics of me from nats, look at them you'll see.

mike o'leary 01-08-2001 21:21

yeah...so heres the pic that im facing the wrong way in:

here

EddieMcD 02-08-2001 13:12

I'm photogenic when I'm energized. Other than that, prettymuch not at all.

Brandon Martus 02-08-2001 13:57

this thread got way off topic & stale.
