Rotary Encoder Collars
 
Upon skimming through the Mechanical Engineering magazine I got in the mail today, I found these:



I think they would be great for use inside a transmission or outside on wheel axles.

Would a Hall Effect Sensor work, similar to the ones we got in the KOP?

If not, what kind of electromagnetic sensor will work?

Yes. A hall effect sensor is what these are designed to be used with.
