CD Christmas Cards [2005]
 

Well, it's getting around that time of the year again, and since nobody's mentioned it, I figured I'd jump on it.

Last year, Amanda Morrison started a thread where a bunch of college students (and some on either side of that demographic) exchanged addresses, then Christmas/Hannukah/Kwanzaa/Have A Nice Day cards. It was fun (especially since I received about as many Christmas cards as I got stamped pieces of mail for the rest of the year).

So, is anyone game for another round of card-swapping? If so, go ahead and PM me with your address, which will then go on a big list that goes out to everyone on that list. We'll limit it to the first 25 or 30 or so that get in the information, unless that drags on forever.

(Now to figure out what to do for mine.)

Well, right now I count 18 people in on this. Three of them are Canadians, which will require another stamp, so we're up to 21 stamps. Which is a bit of an annoyance, since the books have 20 stamps.

Unless anyone's got an objection (or money to burn for the rest of us), I'll cut it off at 30 stamps' worth, whether that's nine American addresses or four Canadians and an American or what have you.

Haha it really does. My roommates and I actually get distraught when there's no mail in our box, not even ads. It's rather disturbing come to think of it.

Will the college students (who are actually away at school) indicate whether their cards will be sent to school or home or something? I know my semester ends on the week of December 8th so I figure others will end around the same time and I think it would be kind of fun for everyone to get their cards before Christmas!

Good question.

I'll say this: the list will go out on Thanksgiving (or when the list fills out, whichever comes first). I'd hope that folks can be quick about getting cards out, getting them in the mail by the first weekend of December (at least for the college student types).

Then, assuming the mail system isn't utterly horrible, they'd be getting in the following week, starting December 5 or so. If you're particularly worried about getting them all before going home for Christmas, I'd suggest using your home address--PM me if you need to flip that around.

(By the way, I'm basing most of these dates around USC's calendar--we're done the week of December 5.)

I'm printing mine as we speak. They'll be in the mail tomorrow, after a quick trip to the Russell House post office.

Let's just say that not being eligible to enter the caption contest means I have plenty of time to come up with Christmas cards. ;)

I just finished setting up all of the names and addresses into an excel file for printing labels, but I'm not going to be able to do too much for now since I have to leave for our team's meeting before too long.

Squirrelrock, have you ever had mail delivered to you addressed to that name? Hopefully it won't be a problem.

Well, it seems that the Wal-Mart bus didn't come this week, so I'm going to have to print out cards and send them sometime this week. While I love you guys, spending $40-60 on cards from our school's gift shop isn't possible for me. :o

Neither, actually.

The picture was done in LiveQuartz, a free image editor for OS X. I then did the card layout in Pages, then exported a PDF to my mom's Windows computer, where I printed them out on cover stock. It worked well, except some got strange markings in the area that I was writing messages in.

Dear all,

Unfortunatly, due to time and other events outside of my control I couldn't send out my cards before Christmas. Instead I will send them out in January, sorry for the hold up!
