2006 NJ Regional
Hey everyone!
Who is going to Jersey this year? As usual we are almost selling our souls to raise some money, but hopefully we will be there! What should we expect this year? My guess is that it will be a great event! |

The NJ regional should be really great this year especially since our friends from the midwest, team 48, will be joining us. We are also seeing the return of some great teams like 88 who are from further up the NE area. This is some tough competition in addition to the already stacked regulars. Teams 25, 56, 75, 103, 1279 are also signed up as well. This should make for an amazing regional, only 4 months to go. I am especially happy to see NJ on the first weekend because last season it was torture while waiting for it. This is the NJ regional's 10th year running and like I have said before, I wouldn't miss it for the world. It is great to see that 1156 will be there again. I remember working with you during qualifying rounds and you were amazing. Best of luck to you and I look forward to seeing you there. GO 1403!!! |
Re: 2006 NJ Regional
I am going to volunteer and help with field reset, I think.
|
Re: 2006 NJ Regional
Offical Team List
Yeah, it should be a great event again, there are 60 teams attending right now so its a jam packed regional (its the 2nd biggest regional behind VCU and GTR which are at 66) But the more, the merrier so it should be a lot of fun. |
Re: 2006 NJ Regional
yeahh team 1676 is going to be at NJ... we won the Rookie All-Stars last year as you guys might remember so we hope it could be good for us again this year...
|
Re: 2006 NJ Regional
I'll be there ... and I am bringing my stripes with me ...

This is the first week of competition, so the high mark will be set by this regional! |
Re: 2006 New Jersey Regional
1403 is going down to Trenton for the 3rd year in a row, NJ and BMS teams are ready to show everyone how the Aim High game is played. Should be a great regional as always, the a diverse of teams attending added with one of the largest numbers of teams signed up will result in an even better event than in years past.
See everyone March 2nd. |

Re: 2006 NJ Regional
Team 1882 will be there thanks to teams like 25, 75, and 1626 encouraging us to persevere. We hope to achieve the highest rookie seed award and look forward to the competition.

Re: 2006 NJ Regional
Guess who's doing play-by-play announcing this year? I'll give you a hint...it's the same guy as it was last year. I personally can't wait to see this year's competition.

|
Re: 2006 NJ Regional
I can't wait. Trenton looks like one of the most stacked regionals this year. Ican't wait to compete with all the amazing teams that are going to be in attendance.

Yes, you can blame me and the rest of us from CT who are coming down this weekend for bringing the snow.. I dare you. :D |
Re: 2006 NJ Regional
Just came back from the NJ regional volunteers meeting and the field looks great and arena is cool looking. Can't wait to see all the teams.
|
Re: 2006 NJ Regional
We have to drive from Montclair, NJ to Trenton, NJ which is about 1 hr 30min drive. You may think that if it snows we are stuck here but no a parent of one of our students owns his own construction business. So our plan is make him drive out front with his plow and we have 2 other 4wheel drive cars behind him.
|
Re: 2006 NJ Regional
Ill be there Fri and Sat with Team 1495. This should be the largest Regional I've ever been a part of.
|
Re: 2006 NJ Regional
I'm coming to observe.
|
Re: 2006 NJ Regional
The field was looking great and the volunteers were ready to rock...just one tiny problem...when I left no one knew where the Poof balls were...those are kind of an integral part of the game, no?
Anyway, I'm giving my voice a rest tomorrow and doing some leg work and interviewing teams...so be ready to talk tomorrow!!! I'll be the one with the mic on Friday and Saturday, so come say hi! |

Today is the big day
only 2 hours until the pits open |
Re: 2006 NJ Regional
I'm so glad my school held off on closing other wise we wouldn't have been able to go. If we have an early dismissal we have to leave early.
I can't wait to see everyone's ingenious creations. |
Re: 2006 NJ Regional
Please can anyone give updates that is there!! I am stuck at college and I want to hear how things are going! Please post any robots that have struck you as good, or any game impressions in general!
|
Re: 2006 NJ Regional
Ok everyone, heres an update:
So we got there and the first issue everyone had to overcome was the weather. Freezing rain, hail, ice, the road conditions weren't great. On top of that the weather was starting to get bad as everyone was driving down. Some schools actually ended up canceling class, like 56 and 303's school. Guess what that means? No buses, so there were quite a few teams that got off to a late start. It gets better, the official field doesn't have any Poof Balls, zero. The shipment that was on its way down for today probably got delayed because of the weather, however they got enough teams that brought balls to competition that they borrowed all of those and returned them at the end of the day. As for the control system, rumor has it that NJ had more problems than VCU and BAE, but they were working on it and its getting there slowly but surely. Most teams that got there didn't pass inspection at all today. There were teams that had all sorts of problems, improper wiring, illegal parts, robots 33 pounds overweight. I talked with the inspectors and they said that the robots just weren't developed enough and had a lot of issues. The average practise match had 2 robots on the field total. 2. Of those robots none really ran smoothly everyone was having problems at one point or another. Autonomous mostly looked to be buggy too, not too many looked clean. Overall the game play looks like its a whole lot harder than anyone predicted. The ramps at the corner goals are preventing a lot of easy points being scored, if you thought that ramp was easy to get on and score on, watch and see its a good bit harder. The center goal is getting some balls in and by the look of it more teams are giving up on the corner goals and just trying to make a shot with the center goals. Everything should and will clean up for tomorrow, but for one of the first regionals this year NJ looks like it'll be great, a lot of teams are looking good but a little more than half still have a good deal of troubleshooting to do. See everyone bright and early tommorow! |
Re: 2006 NJ Regional
jeez Connor how did you beat me home? last I saw you went off to find a staple gun when I went to leave. IMO 103 had the most functional robot. Very consistent and over all well rounded
|
Re: 2006 NJ Regional
How did 1403 run Conor? And 25? Which robots look the best so far?
Thanks for the update. JT 229 |
Re: 2006 NJ Regional
Quote:
We looked pretty good, we were having some glitches in the ground feeder (tubing on it changed size in the cold of storage) we had a bad master link on our drivetrain the snapped in an early match, but thankfully everything got back in line and we should be good for tommorow. We got a nasty scare when we weighed in at 120.5, but that was later corrected on the account of the offical scale needed to be re-calibrated, which left us at 119.5. We spent most of the day making sure that it was running the way it was supposed to and tweaking a few things here in there. Our camera is looking pretty good also. 25 also looked good, I love the way they load balls into their shooter. They looked to be minorly tweaking a bunch of stuff all day, but I'm not sure if their Autonomous video is proofing to be legit, who knows it was a weird day for everyone. Right now the team to watch out for is in no doubt 103. They got there a bit late and left early, but they basically opened the robot up and it ran beautifully. Those guys got a robot that works, and it works well, if they aren't seeded high, they should be the first pick on saturday. I have a list of bots that impressed me a ton in my head, I'm not so sure about their numbers but there are some ones that looked good, I think 486 and 637 that I really liked, they both had shooters that when loaded made great shots. I think they played defence really well too. |
Re: 2006 NJ Regional
Anyone know how 375 was doing?
|
Re: 2006 NJ Regional
Info on Team 293 anyone?
|
Re: 2006 NJ Regional
Today was a challenging day, volunteering and everything. I was the person with the head set walking about the field on the red alliance side. Anyway, I am very impress with all the teams and may talk to a couple of y'all on SAT ( I can't be there tomorrow due to college demands) but yea, um, it was very good and can't wait for the real competition to begin.
|
Re: 2006 NJ Regional
I had the tedious job of sitting at the scorer's table and saying 3,2,1 go...not that exciting (I really get to open up tomorrow)
ANYWAY onto the ?'s We DO have Poof Balls now, Karin Kloberg tracked them down and transported 140 Poof Balls to SBA in her mini van. Sara Neid got the update for the scoring software so hopefully a lot of those bugs will be worked out for tomorrow. And I do agree with a lot of the teams getting slow starts. 293 missed a few of the beginning matches, but towards the end of the day got into the swing of things. 375 looked like it was having a little trouble with its ground feeder, but its shooter worked well. I was surprised at some teams that didn't even make the field...the most promenent that comes to mind was 48, they didn't take part in one practice match all day! I also agree the the Cybersonics and the Positronic Panthers are the top two teams to watch as of now, they were the only two that consistently performed IMO. However as the day went on a plethera of teams came into their own and made their presence known...such teams that come to mind are 11,25, 1403, 293, 102, 56...and some others that I can't think of right now. It's shaping up to be a glorious competition and I'll talk to everyone tomorrow when I get home. |

Re: 2006 NJ Regional
That guy above me is the most deserving WFA candidate off the top of my head.
Great day today, we made a lot of changes just before we left today so look for a new 1403 tommorow (we have the second highest point average right now) My Short List: 25- Top 103- Three 486- Shooters 56 88 293 1089 224 1156 1676 102-Best corner goal scorer 25 and 486 today also set a new high score, 135 if i'm correct. Whatever it was, it was a really well played match both teams have purely dominating shooters. (and 25 fixed their autonomous so now the video they posted is completely legit) |
Re: 2006 NJ Regional
What about team 375? I know the rankings say 1st, but what about actual play? Any praises? Any criticisms?
|
Re: 2006 NJ Regional
375 was a great team. We played with them, they're good people, and have a great machine.
Thanks for considering 1089 on your short list :). We were off to a really rough start, but it seems like we've pulled it together quite nicely. Now we need to go for consistency to make us pickable. We're getting there, though, and are excited for tomorrow. We're currently trying to figure out why some of our rc digital inputs aren't working -- our Geartooth sensor was fine before ship, but now it's not. Very bizarre. But we finally got our camera code up, so... void auto_adjust(void) will soon be active! :) Oh, by the way, Wayne, I heard that your team was so shocked and sad when they heard the quotes and thought "That wasn't from our essay!" But as soon as we heard it, Carli and Sara screeched it out. I'm surprised you guys didn't hear them: they're the loudest in the building. Congrats again :) |

I just wanna say thanks to all the teams for helping make today's event run smoothly, we had some replay issues, but I think we've taken the precautions to make sure that doesn't happen tomorrow...
If anyone's up to read this, are there any critisms for my announcing? Anything i should keep doing, do better? I'd appreciate the input. |
Re: 2006 NJ Regional
On the FIRST website, Team 1187 has 4 wins but is ranked below a team with only 2 wins. Can anyone make sense of this? (Numerous other examples)
http://www2.usfirst.org/2006comp/Eve.../rankings.html 41 550 Warren County Technical School 2-3-0 6 42 1187 Mercedes Benz/NJIT & Newark Public Shcools & University High School 4-2-0 4.5 KA |
Re: 2006 NJ Regional
I definately know that there were some issues with scoring and the way that seeding was happening...if you also notice team 11 which is 4-1 is ranked behind a team that is 3-3, i know the scorers (the lovely Sara) was working on it after Closing ceremonies, and everything should be working by tomorrow...I hope
|
Re: 2006 NJ Regional
Hey,
First off congrats to everyone on a great regional so far. I'm happy to share that we finally worked the shooter alignment back to preship condition and we can consistently sink auto now. Thats just a Shameless plug however now on to bigger and better things, My First question is was match 55 canceled? We were queuing and were turned away but now the Standings page indicates a 20-0 loss? I assume that just another one of the bugs? Secondly was that open source scouting system ever set up for the NJ regional? We used a new system this year and I have a sinking feeling some of our data is skewed I just wanna cross check it. Thanks, and I look forward to an exciting Saturday Noah |

FSN is still in the trial stages so it isn't being released for the NJ regionally officially. You'll see it more at the later regionals after it gets debugged a bit more. If you want to cross-reference some of your Data I'm sure some teams would be willing to trade information with each other, it doesn't hurt to ask around. |

Re: 2006 NJ Regional
Btw i was there today. And not to be rude. But i was rather disappointed with 103s shooting. We are by far not even tapping into our shooting potential so you wont see us shoot unless we need to..
but i think theres still a lot more in stock tmrw i really wanna see some of the other teams that are usually VERY good top up their day today, by performing tmrw. 25 what can i say amazing shooting guys. I was also surprised with 303, i think they have some more things in store to stand out.. but overall really good day. BTW the team thats surprising me the most right now has to be 75... Umm also i dont know how they are calculating avrage... But in our 4 matches 7-27-42-52 our scores were 23, 58, 56, 30 Can anyone calrify how the ranking is done.... ITS REALLY COLD in that ARENA, got me a cold and a head ache!!! But ill still be there tmrw. I mean its freezing in there. |

Re: 2006 NJ Regional
The only other info I have heard is that the number one alliance has moved onto semi finals (the 3rd team in the alliance is 1279) ... Re: 2006 NJ Regional
Whats up guys.
I'm from Team11, we got knocked out first match of the finals by 25's alliance. I left since I knew 25 would win easy. Hat goes off for team 25, amazing robot. Words cannot discribe how well they did. Scoreing up to 80 points by themselves in most of their matches, every atonomous round scoring every ball they had even when being thrown around by other robots. Amazing robot this year, and an amazing team. I dont know if you won yet, but I'm pretty sure you did. You deserved it, cya at nationals. |
Re: 2006 NJ Regional
Anybody got video of team 25 in a match? they sound amazing!

All I can say, is that 25 is amazing. Amazing autonomous, amazing strategy, amazing group of kids, amazing mentors... everyone on that team knows what they're doing and it was an extreme pleasure to work with them for one of our matches.

Re: 2006 NJ Regional
25 is the most dominating robot I've ever seen, it gives 71 in 2001 a great run for its money.
Heres a short list of what 25 won here in NJ:
Seriously though these guys are soo dominating its not even funny, wait till you see a video of them from the finals, they are just crazy. |
Re: 2006 NJ Regional
Whew our semi-finals almost made me lose the control of my bowels when Spike almost tipped us over. Then in the finals oh man you just have to see them. CRAZY!
Nice job Brazilian team with your animation victory. We will get it next year! I hope... Thank you 103 and 1279! Also thank you to Winner of the NJ WFA Wayne Cokeley while he cut my hand open with the award he still is a great mentor! And how could I forget our amazing sponsor, BMS!!! |
