Team 330 member in hospital

Andy Ross (Andy330 here on CD) has been taken to the hospital. You might not know him, but his older brother Joe Ross and his dad GW (Greg) Ross are active in the forums. Andy was in a bike accident and was hit by a car. He was taken to the ICU with head injuries and a broken bone. Please pray!

I second that, and hope for a quick recovery.

The Ross family is great. I have met Greg and I think I talked on the phone with Joe once as well. I hope for a quick recovery for Andy.

I bike over 100 miles a month, I've had more close calls than I can count and they are some of the scariest experinces that you can have. On behalf of 1403 and everyone else here we hope and pray for a speedy recovery for Andy.

That is so sad to hear. After all of the hardship that the Ritchie family went through this year, I can only hope and pray for the best that he will come out of it alright.

Let us know if we can do anything.

Re: Team 330 member in hospital--Update

The doctors think there is probably no brain damage. According to his mom Penny (also a CD member), "He did break his collarbone and has numerous abrasions plus he should have the best black eye you ever did see." For now, the doctors are keeping him sedated to help his recovery.

Penny concludes, "Keep praying. He's not out of the woods yet, but things are definitely looking better than they were."

Hang in there! I'm definitely hoping for a quick recovery.

I used to bike a lot around MetroWest Boston, and the drivers can be ruthless. Remember, bicyclists are bound by the same rights and regulations as drivers in most states.

I'm sure you didn't intend the pun, but "fall" is the correct word in all too many cases. :(

On a happier note, I received this update from another of the moms in Hope Chapel Academy:
(THURSDAY 3:15PM). Andy is awake, talking and has a sense of humor! He said "I knew I should have packed my lunch." - he was hit on his way home from El Camino for a lunch break.

Re: Team 330 member in hospital

Andy's doing great. He was moved from ICU this morning. He is off oxygen and all the constant monitors, and is left with just the IV now. His doctor says he can eat and drink and get up. (He hasn't had the nurses force him onto his feet yet, though that's probably not too far off.)

His doctor wants an MRI. Apparently, at some time yesterday, they had not been able to rouse him when they thought they should have been able to. And he is still supposed to be seen by an ophthalmologist because the intern was worried about some possible corneal abrasions. Assuming the MRI doesn't show anything bad, we expect Andy to be going home very soon.

Thanks for all your thoughts, prayers and well wishes.

Excellent news Greg, I'm so glad to hear he'll be fine.

Here's to a swift and complete recovery!

Greg Ross 10-12-2005 23:28

Re: Team 330 member... AT HOME!

The Ophthalmologist didn't find any problems with Andy's eye. It was going to be 3 days before they could get Andy in for an MRI at the hospital. His doctor decided that the MRI wasn't urgent enough to delay his release, so Andy came home today (Saturday), and he will be getting his MRI as an outpatient next week.

He's getting used to being on his feet again. And he is still pretty slow and unsteady, but there has been enormous improvement since his first attempt yesterday.

But the kicker is that after eating nothing for two days, and next to nothing yesterday, he ate a whole Double Double tonight in just about as much time as it usually takes him.

Thanks again for all your prayers. He will be looking forward to seeing all of you at LA, Phoenix and Atlanta.
