UGH!!! 2 computer problems

First id like to ask is "UGH" a word?
anyways #1 I recently downloaded windownBlinds and icnopackager and destopX from the stardock website and a cool theme. The coolness of the flame theme i had quickly wore off (the next day) and i decided to uninstall all three of the apps windowblinds and desktopX both went away with no problem but when i uninstalled icon packager it left me with a few crippled icons. Word doc icons and html icons. The word icons went to wordpad icons which i found out (though the not very helpful stardock forums) is because wordpad is the default .doc editor in windows. I could change the .doc icons back to the Word icons but when i try to change html icons (sry i forgot to mention changed to IE icons) back to the firefox html logo it wont let me. (i want the firefox icon back because i hate IE icons just a personal pet peeve of mine). Does anybody have any suggestions on how to fix this. Like i siad before the stardock forum is VERY unhlepful so i thought somebody here might know.

#2 I am trying to transfer audio tracks to my dads palm zire 72. I have an SD reader on my computer so i just copy them that way. I have a cd i ripped and tried to transfer to the palm but it wouldnt play (because i forgot to read the fine print again) i had ripped them in wma format. Whoops my fault let me try to rip them again. I had windows media player 9 at that time and it said i couldnt rip MP3's w/o a mp3 encoder so i found them to $9.95 for windows media player 9 but the heading above that frame said that 9 doesnt have mp3 encoding support you can buy it but 10 has it for free. so i downloaded WMP 10 and tried again to rip the tracks but it still said i didnt have a mp3 encoder. i searched the WMP forum and found a person with the same problem but there was no reply the the thread posted in may (im starting to notice a trend in help forums i should just come to CD in the first place) So does anybody know how to get my icons back and rip mp3's

Thanks for your help and reading that whole post i know it was long. sry

#1: I'd try to reinstall Firefox (but back up your bookmarks/themes/etc). When you first run it, it should ask you if it can be your default web browser, which should then make all HTML documents open with Firefox as well.

#2: As far as I know, iTunes can be used for converting WMA files to MP3 format. All you have to do is put the song in your library, select it, then go to Advanced -> Convert Selection to MP3.

Weird. I've never heard of an iTunes error like that. Sadly, thats the only free program I know that can convert to MP3 without ripping from the CD again.

Refer to my post Here for my thoughts on windowblinds and other "skinning" apps. They can and will change parts of the windows kernel to attempt to skin windows for you. I highly suggest people not to play with them, because as much as they say it wont damage your computer, they will.

Try Audacity (you'll need to download the LAME encoder for it to convert to MP3) or goldwave (which is a trial but 2,000 actions should be more than enough).

a quicker way to change the icons from IE to FireFox would be goto

in the menu bar
tools > options > general > defaut broser > check now then follow the prompts. this should change back everything without having to make backups.

Re: UGH!!! 2 computer problems

I've tried everything to change the icons back and they just wont go i tried uninstalling firefox and that just made things worse since i couldnt re-import my profile and theme etc. so i went back to yesterday w norton.

Also when i right click on icons on my desktop at the top there is the "Save Desktop Icons" and "Restore Desktop Icons" both of which do nothing how do i get rid of them?

Just in i changed the icons back to the original, I had to delete the file type profile than make a new one. The right click options are still there though.

Regarding Question #1, Microsoft has released a powertoy called TweakUI. (Do a Google search, you should be able to find it readily). Under the Repair tab you will find an option to rebuild your icons. This has fixed my icons many times when these symptoms show up.

Let me know if this helps!

Some people would argue that you have 3 problems: the two mentioned, and the third - you are running Windows :D
