DARPA Grand Challenge 2006
http://www.robots.net/article/1759.html
Being a huge fan of the Grand Challenge (and who isn't) I have to say that this article is probably the highlight of my week. So anyone want to speculate on the possibilities for a new Grand Challenge event in a urban environment? |
Re: DARPA Grand Challenge 2006
Sounds good to me. We haven't even touched the tip of the iceberg in terms of autonomous navigation. Theres no road signs or pedestrians in the desert! :p

Re: DARPA Grand Challenge 2006
well officially the grandchallenge is over as it was finished by 5 robots. So thers no real challenge any more. I was on the Carnegie Mellon Red team and also went to nevada for the race. Was very cool i must say.
But my vote goes for no gl hf dd |

If they do, I'm guessing another Red Bull sponsored Tourag (or maybe Audi Q7 this time) will win.

Re: DARPA Grand Challenge 2006
the Grand Challenge captured many peoples imagination and attention. But you can only be the first to meet a challenge like this once.
Who was the second crew to land on the moon? who was the second person to cross the atlantic in an aircraft solo? who was the second person to sail around the world alone? Im looking forward to the next big engineering accomplishment. The first commercial flight to orbit the earth? The first fully automated private aircraft? The first car that can autopilot itself down a highway? what will it be? I dont know, but it has to be something that raises the bar - something new. |
