FIRST Years Resolutions?

OK Gang, It is January 1 and time for those new years resolutions.

What are your FIRST Related New Years Resolutions?

Mine is to help our robot eat sensibly and mainain a healthy weight for 5-1/2 weeks, to avoid that drill induced crash diet on February 19th. :)

I WILL NOT stay up endless nights finishing the animation myself this year. Instead we will start earlier and finsih it earlier this year.

Oh boy, do I wish I had made that one last year and stuck to it....

I will make sure that my team knows ALL of the rules. Nothing will come back to bite us in the butt. (FIRST's Q&A server is going to looooooove me.)

I will also make sure that absolutely no member of team 1293 is sitting around with nothing to do, unless the robot is shipped, we've submitted every award there is to submit, the shirts are ordered, all the buttons we could conceivably go through in one weekend have been made, and we've raised enough money to go to fifteen regionals next season. (They'll be busy.)

And, lastly, we're going to have at least a week to debug the robot before we crate it up.

You mean you're doing the whole thing by yourself?

Dave, not to sidetrack this thread, but if you need some help with the animation* give me a holler - I's sure I can get some of our students to help.

* PS - If the animation is not the kickoff video, please disregard this offer. :)

Every year. And this time, to avoid highjacking the thread, I hereby resolve to have my head examined if I volunteer to do it again.

Well Dave you shouldn't be spending so much time on CD since you have less than a week and you have alot of work to do.
Get back to work, Dave!

Based upon Dave's post, I predict that the animation will be just over 3:20 seconds long.

Dave also mentioned that he's burning it to DVD. Is this code to say that a cross-section of the game object could be a circle? :ahh:

Re: FIRST Years Resolutions?

1. That we work as a TEAM and not a collective group of students working on the robot. We accomplish everything as one.
2. MEET COOL PEOPLE like Koko Ed, Beth Sweet, Arefin and many other FIRST mentors.
3. Try to have the robot done in 4 out of the 6 week build process.
4. MC more off-season events.
5. Spread the news about Mentors Unite! to all new and returning mentors.
6. And basically have FUN with everything we do.

Yeah!

Re: FIRST Years Resolutions?

Well, to start with, I heard that that the average person keeps a New Year's Resolution for approxamately 1 week.

My FIRST years resolution is to have our robot done by week three. So we have a week to break it, a week to fix it, and a week to program it. So, by time the first weeks over, well, not much hope for that one...

To use the KISS principal and not make the robot over complicated...again...

Re: FIRST Years Resolutions?

I have a few FIRST related New Year's Resolutions. They may sound challenging, but I like aspiring to reach high goals. :p
  • Try to design and build even more really innovative robots that make non-FIRST people say wow.
  • Finally become proficient at programming in C.
  • Use these new programming skills to have a decent autonomous this year.
  • Get my team's website to win the Best Website Award again.
  • Learn PHP so I can convert my team's website over from HTML.
  • Meet other cool people from CD at the Champsionships this year.
  • Get a better picture of myself with Dean at the 2006 Kickoff.
  • Become one of the drivers again for my team.
  • Inspire other people.
  • Meet new people and make new friends in FIRST.
  • Have fun. :p
I'll make sure that these last longer than one week. At least for me, the harder and more challenging a task is, the more I like doing it. :)
