D.J. Fluck 04-05-2002 10:58

I have a 10 gig harddrive :( so what i do is after i download so many I burn them to a CD and delete them, i have about 10 cds with 15-19 tracks on each, plus the 70 on my PC right now so i have about 228... Yeah im laim, but after Napster closed i havent had a decent program to get them from, Kazaa is the best thing ive found so far, and morpheus has problems on XP..

Any other programs you might know of?

Harrison 04-05-2002 12:09

Chubtoad 04-05-2002 12:55

Direct Connect

I love this program, it is great for sharing any personal movies you may have made or any custom music, they don't have any protection against copyrighted material, but as any decent net-izen you shouldn't distribute copyright material

Justin 188 04-05-2002 16:06

Darn you guys with more than 20gb hard drives :)
I've got 291 mp3s :(

Harrison 05-05-2002 00:21

Direct Connect is good...WinMX is good too (its basically Napster)...

Then of course people on ICQ lists that are more than happy to send you music...

XRaVeNX 05-05-2002 01:33

Nooo... the best is FTPs..... I'm downloading 250+ albums at the moment :) I'm on the "F's" after two weeks lol

6087 mp3s according to Windows' Search function.......

hehehe

WINMX SUCKS!! The users on there are greedy, and it is slow!!! I personally use Kazaa, and I love it!! W00t for Kazaa!

i have about 1,000 songs, :D 38.7 Gigs of free drive space, and a NEW cable modem. (I was on 56k, give me a month or too to suprass Brandon)

Melissa Nute 05-05-2002 11:23

I can honestly say I have none because my computer doesn't have sound and I don't have enough patience to wait for the songs to download.

Harrison 05-05-2002 12:26

I feel for you melissa...

I use to have a 56k...It was brutal downloading...

Got cable now tho...and all is well :)

DanL 05-05-2002 13:28

7.74 gigs, 1,803 files.... a bit of quick math, thats on average 4.43 megs per song.

That brings me to another question: when you guys download/rip songs, do you care about quality? Personally, I go for the bigger files - those are usually at 192 or 160 kbps rather than 128 kbps. I can hear a difference between 128 and 160 or 192, while people have told me they can't. Do YOU hear a difference, and if yes, do you try and go for the better quality, or do you don't care? Or, do you have no clue what I'm talking about? :)

Harrison 05-05-2002 13:38

Most of mine are either 128 or 192...

I can hear a difference, but it's not big enough for me to really care...

Chubtoad 05-05-2002 14:12

It depends what kind of music I'm downloading. When I rip a cd that I know has very precise chords, or powerful songs, like the entire "Wish You Were Here" album by Pink Floyd, then I rip at 190, otherwise i'll go for 128.

Harrison 05-05-2002 14:16

Wish You Were Here is alright....Dark Side of the Moon is the best ;)

Actually...I won't argue....All Pink Floyd is the best :)

IsabelRinging 05-05-2002 15:44

I have about 170 mp3s and a 4 gig hard drive. *cries*

Also, WinMX is GOD.

I can get 7 kb/s on my 56k out of that thing. Slow? Pfft. Morpheus has recently turned to crap, and Kazaa... well, I'm sure we all know about that already.

Scottie2Hottie 05-05-2002 18:00

correction, 933. I need to download some more!

Clark Gilbert 05-05-2002 18:14

WinMX

I think WinMX is the best...runs fast and it has everything i want....(dont like not having a pause/resume feature thougH :()

For an MP3 count i think i have somewhere between 200-300, but i only have about 10 on my computer..

i have more luck using kazaa than winmx

DanL 05-05-2002 18:29

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought gnutella, kazaa, and morpheus all use the same network? Atleast in the old morpheus, I've downloaded from people named "xxx@kazaa.blahblahblah," and the new morpheus says that it connects to the gnutella network. Besides the whole spyware bundled in Kazaa and the new Morpheus losing all of it's advanced search options (*points back to my MP3 Quality post*), is there a difference between the two in terms of the network?

This is the deal:
Fasttrack coded the p2p sharing system implemented in Kazaa, Grokster and the earlier Morpheus. Gnutella is a completely different system. Then, for reasons unclear, Fasttrack modified their system. Kazaa and Grokster were able to change, Morpheus was not. So they had to change their file download system to Gnutella.

Personally, I use Grokster for mp3's (install ad-Aware!!) and eDonkey(www.edonkey2000.com) for larger files.
