Name Your Kids

OK guys, so there are exactly 10 hrs and 55 minutes until the Kickoff broadcast (maybe less when I finish the post). And since I am angsty with nothing to do, I figured I'd find out what everybody wants to name their kids. Why not? Though I probably won't end up with 20 kids, here are my Top 10 and explanations.

So, a survey question about naming kids totally got me stuck the other day. In honor of that question, I would like to present the names I plan to give to my kids, and yes I know some seem wierd. So I like unique names...

If it's a boy,

10. Dobry (awesome Russian name)
9. Emmett (Name of a friend)
8. Tobias (Sounds so cool)
7. Dagan (Irish maybe? I heard it somewhere)
6. Tiernan (Irish, I think. Awesome name.)
5. Kearney (Irish, I think. Awesome name.)
4. Tybalt (Ever read Romeo and Juliet?)
3. Sebastian (Just sounds so cool from many sources)
2. Dmitrii (Russian - my brother's name)
1. Fabrizio (Coolest name ever. Also one of the Strokes guys)

If it's a girl,

10. Vashti (Ridiculously cool sounding.)
9. Maitane (Ridiculously cool sounding.)
8. Neroli (Ridiculously cool sounding.)
7. Etain (Irish? Very very cool sounding.)
6. Mindel (Not sure of origin, but sounds cool)
5. Kalanit (Hebrew - sounds awesome)
4. Iris (Sounds cool)
3. Tamar (Hebrew - one of my favorite names)
2. Afton (Some English river, also a sweet name)
1. Quincy

Now - everybody has been complaining that I put Quincy as a girl's name. Everyone says it's for boys only. One of my best friends, a very Irish female (you know, tiny green-eyed redhead with insane temper), is named Quincy. In honor of her...Quincy is my top female name.

Maybe this thread is cheesy, but I don't mind.

Elise's list is so confusing that I am going to name ALL of my children "Fabrizio" for simplicity.

It's too early for me to be thinking of that but I have always liked the simple names Shanon, Katie, and Steve.

Seth and I do this for fun, and we came up with two names we like, one for a boy, one for a girl.

Noah Matthew
Sarah Lily

=]] There's a little inside thing Seth and I have with one of the names, but I can't reveal that. It's a secret. ;)

I always joke with friends about one day giving my son really funny names, here are some of my favorites:

Wolfgang
Odysseus
Porter Perry (say it fast a few times, what does it sound like?)
Simon Theodore (my last name is Alvins.)
Pepper (I hope he'll grow up to be a doctor.)

Re: Name Your Kids

Well in my family it's tradition that the first born son is named george...but the middle name can be whatever you want...therefore his name will be George Thenaphenous...I was working in a movie theater one day...looked up at the screen during the credits of Harry Potter 3...and I saw it...George Thenaphenous...I knew then and there, it was to be my sons name.

Either that or name it something that everyone likes...Pizza Presents Santa...everyone likes one of those things.

Girl's Name: Io (my grandmother wanted to name me that)
Boy's Name: Kael (I just thought about it at random and I loved the name)

I used to think Io sounded like a good name for a cow. lol. But now I love it, and I wished I was named it.

That's a nice list. Here's one on the etymology and history of first names (like it says on the site).

http://www.behindthename.com/

But unfortunately, I wasn't able to find the meaning of the names from the list you gave us (hehe).

I don't know what I would like to name my kids yet. Maybe Seul since that's what my parents were going to name me originally.

Re: Name Your Kids

Haha me and My friends do this all the time too, our latin teacher has a baby name book in the class (supposedly to find the latin root of a name) so once in a while we get to go through it and find names for what we'd name our children. So heres a few that I find intresting, as a side note from personal experince, an intresting first name always is remembered

Boys:
Gearoid-"gar + roid"-Its irish, another reason why I love it. Means Means "brave with a spear" or "spear carrier." but It spells future engineer.
Kyna-"key + na"
Riordan-"reer + don"-Not only sounds cool, but it means Royal Poet, and very highly regarded in any royal household as he acted as scholar, historian and advisor to the king. Since my last name being Ryan, which means King

Girls:
Siobhan-"shiv + awn"-Really cool I think
Aideen-"ay + deen"-Femine form Aidan, another name I like
Eimear-"ee + mer"-Yes, its pronounced with a Long E at the beginning, Yes I'm a bit mean, but is nice and means a lot of very nice stuff.

As you can see I love being 100% Irish, and I Love having to list a pronunciation guide for a name

Conor is a highly reconmended name though

We were big fans of songwriter, singer, humanitarian Harry Chapin (1942-1981), so we named our children after characters in his song, "Corey's Coming." Kori and Jon.

Well I got stuck with Thurman Shaver Deyerle IV, so my parents want a fifth. I'm a little undecided on that. I might just do something simple.
