Dear FIRST,

In 2007, let's make Kickoff in the evening.

Thanks,
The West Coast

Seconded. Or at least push the time back a bit farther than 7am Pacific Time.

kthxbye! :p

Re: Dear FIRST,

Third that. Then the west coast doesnt have to get up at around 5.

Re: Dear FIRST,

Could be worse. You could be on a Hawaii team. :p

Re: Dear FIRST,

ahhh come on. isn't the excitement of a new build season and new challenging game enought to get you guys up on the west coast. :D Today seemed like christmas to me. I just couldn't wait till 10am.

Re: Dear FIRST,

Please forgive Wilshire's enthusiasm.

The rest of the midwest (myself included) likes to sleep too.

If it was about 12 hr time diference between Israel and Alaska, then hypothetically we could just shift that 12 hours to a different time slot?

Re: Dear FIRST,

I'd actually prefer to be in Hawaii for kickoff.

Not only is Hawaii incredibly awesome, but I'd be wide awake at 3-4 AM :p

Re: Dear FIRST,

My followup to M.: Yeah, but I bet the early wakeup was worth it once Woodie got talking. :p

West Coast Kickoff 2007 (Section 11)

1) Set up VCR/TIVO to record kickoff.
2) Watch when you want to, maybe at 10am to keep in synch with East coast.
3) Enjoy 2007's Water game.

*not really.

Who, exactly, would volunteer to be doing kit distribution from ~8am until ~2pm on kickoff day out here on the west coast? Yeah... doesn't help those of us who lead our teams and need to get our kits of parts, but also like to sleep a little. Thanks for the thought, though.

Re: Dear FIRST,

You guys do know that you get 3 extra hours to do whatever, be it kit pick-up or brainstorming or whatever.

Re: Dear FIRST,

I really feel for those out West. Doing the Kickoff here was difficult too. It seems that it is really tough to get teenagers out of bed anywhere, anytime. I know that they wouldn't get out of bed early to line up for X-Box 360 or concert tickets for their favorite groups so why for FIRST?

(all written tongue in cheek)

Re: Dear FIRST,

An evening kickoff means working late into the night finishing inventory and initial brainstorming, but noon eastern time seems reasonable.

Re: Dear FIRST,

The West Coast does have an advantage, getting the rules several hours earlier, meaning they get that many more hours to ship the robot...Yes it makes a difference. I wouldn't mind them changing the times around too much, but sleep should definetly be included in the KOP for 07.

Also don't forget our friends in Israel, they got Kickoff at 5pm? was it? Any later and they'll be pushing 10pm.

It was in the evening this year, you just had to be in Israel. :p
Globalization has some interesting and unique challenges.

Re: Dear FIRST,

What about going neutral and having kickoff at 12am GMT?

KTorak 08-01-2006 18:07

Re: Dear FIRST,

I would make it later, but *not* becuase I cant get up early, but for the weather. It took my team 3x the time we expected to get to Novi, had we even expected bad weather, we would have planned an earlier departure, but the weather was suposed to be fine. Because it took so long, we missed everything and arrived just before the game was announced. If it was in the early afternoon or evening, atleast the roads will be in better condition if it snows or something. (It's some rule that in Michigan, it always snows/is icey for Robotics....kick off 2005 - snow, GLR - snow, coming home from Atlanta - snow, kick off 2006 - ice).

Re: Dear FIRST,

Why make kickoff any later than it should be? We all deserve the same amount of time until ship date, and the first day into the project is most crucial!

You're kidding, right?

3 hours over a 42 day period. That's 4.26 "extra" minutes per day. There's no way it makes a difference.

I'm sure that the two UK teams would love finding out all the full game information at 1:30am.

All times are GMT -5. The time now is 06:11.
