It's 7".

Re: Size of foam balls please
We didn't measure them, but we did notice that they get "bruised" at times.
More importantly, did anyone weigh their ball today? |
Re: Size of foam balls please
The ball we received was a little less than 7". I believe the weight of the ball was like 183 grams....

Re: Size of foam balls please
Just weighed it, 6.4oz

Re: Size of foam balls please
Has anyone considered the size of these foam basketball after repeatedly used in matches after matches?
Assuming teams will build components to harvest lots of balls from the playing field, and have some sort of ball shooter like the one seen in the kickoff's webcast about safety, these balls are going to be pushed around, ran over (maybe), compressed repeatedly match after match. It is very possible that these balls will become smaller as they get used more and more. |

Re: Size of foam balls please
We just had a discussion about that tonight as well. There is also another possibility of humidity combined with the wear and tear of regular usage affecting the shape of the balls. Back in 2000 when 188 went to Florida, I was told the shape of the balls varied enough to make it difficult to pick up compared to the drier, but much colder weather in Toronto =P. Thats just another thought to take into consideration.

Re: Size of foam balls please
My team never got a ball in our kit, and while we are going to report that it was missing to first, we haven't really seen them up close yet, so we were wondering what the outer shell of these things are made of, is it solid plastic, or is it the more permeable stuff?
Thanks in advance. |

Re: Size of foam balls please
from prier experiance with these balls, they can tear fairly eaisly if handled in the wrong way. also hope you ordered your extras fast because websites like childsplay.com sold out of the balls in about 2 hours or so, so be sure to find um quick, b/c lots of places are gonna be sold out for a while. and like DCA Fan stated, "I have a feeling that we're about to deprive the world of Poof balls for a while." and there is some questioning if the poof soccer ball is the same as the basketball. im pretty sure there about the same weight and react the same way as the basketballs, i mean they're made of the same materials, just a slightly different cover/mold.

Re: Size of foam balls please
When i weighted ours yesterday it was slightly over 182 grams.

Re: Size of foam balls please
Our "Poof" ball is 6.825 inches in diameter and weights 0.400 lbs. :)
|
Re: Size of foam balls please
These balls even right off of the manufacturing line won't be the same
One of our POOF balls weighed 180g and another was 183g |

Just the model name per the manufacturer should be proof enough: See the manufacturer's sites regarding these products: Soccer Ball Basketball |
Re: Size of foam balls please
I measured 6.9 inches on one ball that we have and 185 grams.

Re: Size of foam balls please
We measured three balls as follows:
180g 181g 183g The scale is only good +/- 1g though. (That's about 6.3 oz. (180g) for the metrically challenged. For diameter, we measured just a hair under 6.875 for all three, they are very consistent. There is a thickening, a heavy 'lump' in the middle of the black side (well, it's black on our three plus another one I saw) that is heavy enough to cause the ball to always stop with that spot down. The skin is very thin - how do you describe it? - much like the thin skin of most any molded foam ball you have even seen. It is not open-pored like the surface of a cut piece of foam rubber. Hope this helps. Don |
Re: Size of foam balls please
I weighed one that was 185.327g. Why could our school possibly need a scale that measures milligrams? I have no idea.

Re: Size of foam balls please
OK, now that we got the rest of our order, we measured a total of 20 balls.
Average weight is 183.5 grams Standard deviation is 2.55 grams We unscientifically noted that balls also have different levels of hardness, and it doesn't correlate to weight. For example, our 187 g ball is a lot softer than a random 183g ball (as measured by pushing on the face opposite the hard spot). With that being said, I don't think 3 grams in either direction will matter much. Don |
