Goal Blocking????

Ok, I haven't seen this question asked yet...

Is there anything in the rules that says that we can NOT block the goals on the ground by parking our robot in front of them? I have read the rules and either missed it(Which is very likely or it's not there?)

Does anyone have any comments? And do you think it would be a good stratagy? Just wondering.

No, there is nothing in the rules about blocking your opponent from scoring in the lower corner goals. In fact, that is one way to play defense.

You cannot block the high center goal, but of course, that would be hard since nothing can go over 60" tall.

downside to goal blocking

While blocking the goals is a good defense, you do not want to block off the lower goals completely, or two things could happen:

You could drive up your opponents score by forcing them to shoot for the raised goal (not likely)

Or you could cut off the supply of balls available to your team in the next period, because any balls scored by your opponent are returned to your team. Every ball scored by your opponent into the lower goal gives you the opportunity to score 3 points. I guess you will have to decide what to do based on if you have a good shooter.

You could do that, but there's a ramp there so you cant park directly in front of them. Also doing that would make you only have one robot that can defend.

Sure you can, you'd just be on an incline.

Inside the box thinking (quite literally) at it's finest.

No one ever said you need to make your bot the max width, length, or height.

It could happen that (2) 24" width or length robots could fit on the ramp at one time, or (4) 12" width or length bots, etc, etc..

The platform is after all 4' deep from ramp to wall.

If you happened to have a 60" tall robot, moving in front of another robot all the time, it makes their job of shooting a nightmare, since nothing can go over 60". So the camera targeting system would have to always pin-point exact all the time and compensate for the fact that they shooting bot is always going to be moving to try to get an open shot.
