Spending Limit?

i heard somewhere that there is a max amount of money you can spend on the bot after the kit of parts. does anyone know where i can find that number or what it is?

Under Section 5-The Robot, part 5.3.4.3 details spending limits. for most intents and purposes, it's $3500, but there are some exeptions, special rules etc. so read it carefully

I don't think I have ever heard of that, plus how would FIRST keep track of that? It's too complcated.

Darn, I got to read over that part again. I am never involved in the money part. I guess reading at 1 am is not a good way to remember things.

Not complicated at all. Your teams needs to keep a spreadsheet. This is usually been a part of the inspection process at regionals. Each team should have a business manager, keeping track of the paperwork.

Its not too complicated. I dont think, you just have to keep track of things as you use them :).

It makes sense though, so that teams with larger budgets dont have insanely crazy robots and others with smaller budgets have something that just doesnt compare.

Although I don't personally do it, it should be relatively easy. It's an Ebom, that's all. And you show during inspection. Whatever you use on your robot, you list it out with cost. Also a useful tool just to have anyway to keep track of costs and parts. Just make sure you read the rules very carefully as there are many different descriptions and definitions of types of parts.
