Super flexible Wire
 

I did a search, and got nothing, so here's my question. I'm looking at purchasing wire from Terminal Supply. I want red and black in all the awg's necessary to build this year's robot, and I want to get the really flexible stuff, that is like rope. I'm looking at GPT and GXL wire. I'm also looking at ones with high strands. like part number 18 GPT or 16 GPT. Those are the correct sizes for flexible wire right? and if so, is it better to get the GPT stuff insulated in PVC, or the GXL stuff insulated in SAE polyethelene?

http://www.robotmarketplace.com/marketplace_wire.html <-- The best their is. If you don't mind going with 12 gauge, Deans wire is described as wet noodle (1660 strands). Ive used it before. It's pretty amazing stuff.

thanks :) although i know terminal supply has the stuff i want. i just want to know what stuff it is. :) if i can't figure it out, ill probably go with the dean's wire stuff.

Try looking for test lead wire. High strand count, flexible and durable.

You might not find test lead wire in #10 or # 6. I suggest you all look at the MCMINONE website. They have excellent zip cord in guages all the way up to # 6 which is fairly flexible. It will not have the flex of "rope lay" cables but is not expensive of heavy. The super flex cables should be available anywhere auto stereo accesories are sold in your area.

Last year my team used car speaker wire and we plan on doing the same this year. We usually use Street Wires 12-gauge and 14-gauge "Ultra Wire" for our motors and solenoids. It's a great wire to use because the positive and negative are enclosed in a plastic tube making it easier to route the wires. It's also multi-stranded making it very flexible.

We buy the wire from Crutchfield.com for $0.50 to $0.80 per foot.

Deans wire is pretty expensive if my memory serves me correctly.
If you are looking for 6ga, I would recommend welding cable from http://www.delcity.net/. If you are looking for 10 ga, I would recommend the wire on this page http://www.partsexpress.com/webpage....ctGroup_ID=478 They also have some nice 12ga zip cord we have used

Be careful with the insulation of the wire you use. Black "clear" wire when installed is brown in color, a violation of rules. We had some problems with inspectors last year.

thanks for the advice. ill remember that. i don't wnat to make any inspectors mad, but i also want only solid red, and solid black wires on the robot. (other than PWM's).

So that there is no confusion, solid wire (no strands) will break due to the extreme motion of these robots. Murphy's law dictates that it will happen at the worst possible time.
If however, you are speaking of color, solid colors are best. Following the color code not only helps inspections it helps out someone who is trying to help you find a problem.

i highly reccomend deans wet noodle. local hobbyshops will have them too. i htink. ones around here do. only wire i use on my rc cars. hopefully we'll have the resources to use them for our robot this year. yes they arent as cheap as others tho
