I know that it blocks out certain words that are "naughty" are you sure you spelled forum right?

Hm... yeah, it does do it. Weird. My guess is that is done so that people can't put "forum admin" in their user title and confuse people.

Correct. Some words like 'admin' 'forum' and other things were disallowed by vBulletin in the default install.
