Motors with Omni-Wheels
 

My team is thinking about doing a 4-wheel omni-wheel set-up for our robot. What is the best way to pull this off? Are there any motors that we can actually use four of so that we can have 1 per wheel or is there another efficient way to set it up?

You're allowed four of the smaller CIM motors, part FR801-001. Two are provided in the kit and you may purchase up to two more.

A DeWalt XRP drill transmission would probably make a nice gearbox to hook that CIM up to, you'd get 12:1, 4:1, and 3:1 shift on the fly for ~2 pounds (price=$70.00) and most of the geardown you'll need.

Where do we find ourselves one of these tranys?

You say $70... i see the drill itself for sale at around 300.

Can we get the trany seperately?

It has been my experience that the Dewalt service website shows several of the required parts on backorder (especially around this time of year). Check my post HERE for more info on these fantastic transmissions and a source for the ENTIRE drill (12v model) for $60 ea (less in quantity). After cannibalizing for your required transmission parts you still have a great keyless chuck AND a nice 12v Dewalt motor for some other use.

I am also attaching a spreadsheet I generated last year which details the required parts (part numbers and last years prices) and an exploded diagram of the drill.
