Do you mean movie merchandise? Of course, there have been five SW movies and only one Spiderman. But there's been a hella more comic book merchandise for Spiderman since he was created. I'd have to see some numbers before i'd believe that SW has really sold more.

2) Spiderman won't be able to keep up. Even if it is showing in many less theatres, people have been waiting for years to see this movie. And Star Wars has an extra day on top of that. Spiderman was a Fri/Sat/Sun release while EP II is a Thurs/Fri/Sat/Sun release.
I still think Spidey will come out on top. The more theaters help. Plus, people who have never been into the whole superhero universe are going to see spiderman for the third and fourth time. Spiderman was a good movie, and that's not just me speaking. I hope SW is as good as some of you are saying, i really do. But it's gotta have a storyline of its own to get that kind of audiences. The problem with prequels, imo, is that they sometimes do nothing more than lay a foundation for a movie that ppl already love. That's great, but it doesn't get the kind of numbers that spidey's getting.

Guess we'll see who wins. See ya at the box office!

Oh man... you have NOT seen anything until you've seen Yoda with a lightsaber! Man, that movie was the shiznit! And I get to see it two more times this week. Yeah!

- Katie

For all the famale, non-Star Wars fans: It's worth your while to see it - it's a good movie and Hayden Christensen is in it!

Well It's Better Than Episode One

But I still prefer Spider-Man. It has something that Attack of the Clones greatly lacked:humanity. Peter was actually an interesting person. Ani looks like a grungy Backstreet boy with a trailer too small(Note to Hayden Christensen: when you deliver dialouge try unclenching your teeth when you talk! This is the same kid who people were seriously considering an oscar nomination for Life is a House? What happened?). The Padame-Anakin romance was clunky and dragged the movie down the way Jar-Jar dragged the last one down(It's nice to see Jar-Jar's antics were toned down. He actually seemed warm and regal. Less is more.)It was more than grating. It was painful to endure. The Yoda fight was pretty cool. The effects, the sets and the cotumes were a total Knockout(designing all that cool stuff has to be one of the coolest jobs in history!).The action sequences were great! I just wish George Lucas would get a scriptwriter.:(

I really, really like it. It was totally sweet! If you haven't seen it, you definately have to!

Keith Chester 18-05-2002 11:15

It was awesome. Period. End of story.
Spiderman doesnt stand a chance against it. Tobey McGuire was a horrible spiderman with a horrible voice.

Ben Mitchell 18-05-2002 12:05

Star wars was OK. Obi-wan and the others were competant, but whoever played Anakin needs acting lesssons. When ever he would rant, people in the audience were laughing, because he was so over drammatic.

The plot seems rushed, as if George Lucas needed events A B C and D to happen in the movie, it is much more plot-driven, but in a negative way. The movie felt like it was an hour long, I'm not sure if that was good or bad.

I'd rate it a bit below spiderman, becuase I could Identify much more with the charactor, and the movie's underlying themes.

DanL 19-05-2002 00:19

Sorry about bringing back dead posts, but I just got back from Star Wars.

All I have to say is WOW!

Sure, the romance and acting were kinda bleh, a bit too much emphasis was put on natalie portman (i.e. the skimpy skin-tight clothing), and did they REALLY have to rip off the stomach part of her suit? However, I do think Hayden did a good job as Anakin. Yeah, he might have been overly-dramatic in some parts, but you could really see how he was going to become Darth Vader. In Episode 1, Yoda said, "Fear leads to Anger. Anger leads to Hate. Hate leads to Suffering." Hayden went back to this theme as Anakin, especially during the scene about his mother.

Outside the acting, I thought the plot was amazing. Someone before said it was rushed, but I think it was perfect. There was tons going on and you frequently felt lost, but that was the entire bueaty of the thing. The movie was supposed to make you insignificant when you saw the numbers and organization of the clones. The plot just added to this feeling. The foreshadowing was also great. Episode I built up the idea that the Jedi order is supposed to be the ultimate good and in control. Episode II hints about how its falling apart and the chaos that's going to happen.

When I walked out of the theater, I was terrified about the Power and the Might thats going to be displayed in Episode III - and thats EXACTLY what movies are supposed to do. They're supposed to change your emotions and leave you to your imagination. When you walk out of a movie and feel suprised that the outside world is just as it was when you walked in, you KNOW you saw a good movie. For this reason, Episode II was amazing. Definately on par with Lord of the Rings.

As for Spiderman... what Spiderman?

Melancholy 19-05-2002 00:19

rock on little green dude!

did people chant "yoda! yoda! yoda!" at your movie theater during that awesome scene, as they did in mine?

DanL 19-05-2002 00:28

Nah, people weren't THAT hardcore. Although several people kept on clapping and I shouted out, "Yeah Yoda!" :)

DaveyPotter144 19-05-2002 01:12

People stood up screaming and whistling...It was great!

And as for that great little Spiderman vs. Star wars E2
I just wanted to say I work at a movie theatre and Spiderman is definitely making E2 run for it's money. We sold out about 3 or 4 shows at our theatre alone(which only has 10 screens..2 screens devoted to each e2 and Spiderman). It was crazy trying to keep up with the cleaning. E2 though sold out only 2 times but usually they have bigger numbers because they are in the bigger theatres at the moment. I am not surprised about e2's business, but we were shocked about how well spiderman is doing in the midst of e2.

Just thought I would try to shed some light! ;)

Hey check this out...

Unfortunately Star Wars didn't do as good as I had hoped... oh well, it'll still beat Spiderman in the long run and hopefully Titanic for that matter. :)

Wow!! I never thought about that. Just think... SPOILER ALERT!!!(Highlight to read) Anakin FEARS that his mother may be dead when Lars tells him that she was missing and that Tusken Raiders had something to do with it. Then he gets ANGRY at the people that could have hurt his mom and decides to go find them. He finds his mom in the camp all busted up and then she dies and he now HATES the Tuskens. After going on a psychotic rampage and killing them all he goes back and cries because of what he did; he SUFFERS. Neat eh? I don't see any good themes like that in Spiderman. :)
