The Answer to this years game - 42!
So, today I was talking to Lil Lavery online.
Lil Lavery: any breakthroughs in your quest for the ultimate strategy? Me: I know the answer!! Me: 42 And so now I shall explain why we decided the answer is 42. 4+2=6 -- The number of robots. 4+2=6 -- Total number of goals. 4-2=2 -- The number of alliances. 4*2=8 -- The number of alliances that move onto finals. 4 corner goals 2 center goals. You can separate it too. FORTY - TWO 40*2=80 -- Total number of balls. 42+42+4^2=100 -- Total POSSIBLE autonomous points per alliance. 42+42+42+42+42 = 210 -- 2 min 10seconds in a match There are 4 periods in the game 2 of which have designated offensive and definsive teams. And 42 backwards is 24: 24 = total number of drive team members between the two alliances. Four denotes stability, physical limitations, hard labor and earthly things, as in the four corners of the earth. It also stands for materialistic matters. You get things done. Two stands for diversity, partnership, soul, or receptivity. It can also symbolize double weakness or double strength. There is a duality as in male and female, mother and father, yin and yang, etc. source:www.dreammoods.com 04 and 02 -- last two games with balls. 4 "regular" CIM motors, 2 CIM "mini-bike" motors Is this an answer, will this number solve everything for the year? Or is it all just coincidental : ponders : Post your thoughts, or even YOUR 42's :) |

![]() That is amazing! But I found one: 4^2-(4+2) is the number of balls that can start on your robot in autonomous. That's all I have. Ashley's crazy analysis took almost everything I can think of... :p EDIT: I swear I remember typing in those parenthesis's. |
Re: The Answer to this years game - 42!

This is also exactly why I don't work on robot designs at 1:30 in the morning. |

I'm sure you will figure out how to get 130 using 42s. I had no idea that 42 would turn out to be such a good strategy! :D Our team missed it in all of our brainstorming. I'm sure tonight we will reformulate our strategies based on this discovery. |
Re: The Answer to this years game - 42!
Hahha.
Yeah stupid brackets! The screw you over everytime. And whoops, I fixed the match time thing. :) |
Re: The Answer to this years game - 42!
The average number of currently registered teams per event (including championship) is right now, 42.5.....
:yikes: |
Re: The Answer to this years game - 42!
That is freaking business, and probably working overtime too.

Re: The Answer to this years game - 42!
42+42+42-(4+2) = 120 The maximum weight of the robot (minus bumpers and the battery.
4^2+4^2+(4+2) = 38 The maximum length dimension, in inches, of the robot at the start of the match (minus bumpers). 4^2+4^2-4 = 28 The maximum width dimension, in inches, of the robot at the start of the match (minus bumpers). 42+4^2+2 = 60[/b] The maximum height dimension, in inches, of the robot (minus the flag). 42+42+42+42-4^2-4 = 148 The maximum weight of the robot including the battery and the bumpers. 42+42+42+42-4 = 166 Our team number :D |
Re: The Answer to this years game - 42!
4/2+42= 44 number of build days between kickoff and ship date
4^2-4= 12 the number of volts on the main battery 4^2+2= 18 the number of Amphours 42/2+2*4^4+4^3+4^2+2*4+2= 623 My team number! This is pretty fun :D |

Sadly, Douglas Adams never realized that he was sooo right.

Re: The Answer to this years game - 42!
The median number of registered teams is 41.5, which rounds up to 42

Re: The Answer to this years game - 42!
I am delighted with this thread, given the team I coach is the Hitchhikers.
Given the fondness of some in this thread, I will give you a number challenge I give my CS students. It is the four 4s. If you take the challenge, you will come up with 100 equations. Each equation can only use the numeral 4 and must use it exactly four times. You are free to use whatever operators you like. I will give you one such equation for free: "16 = 4 + 4 + 4 +4", only 99 more to go. A solution might be found on the web, but that is no fun. I will be glad to offer encouragement/hints as you desire, since when the dust settles, what remains is that I am a teacher. |
Re: The Answer to this years game - 42!
Hm, pretty cool. :) I think I will wait, I already have too much to do!

Re: The Answer to this years game - 42!
Wow, you guys really thought this out.
You have a LOT of time on your hands... if you happen to have any extra time to spare... give some to me.. I'm running out. :D I can't think of any others off hand, and I need to go to bed. PS: Almost have the hotel res. for Richmond setup, waiting on a few more of the volinteers to get their money to me (you know who you are.. hurry up!). The Franklin Crew of Volinteers are on their way. WOOT! |
