Drifting
As you can see from my name, I like drifting, I wanted to know who else here likes it, and if so, who are your favourite drivers?
Formula D=Chris Forsberg and the rest of DA D1GP=Gen Terasaki(FastRat AP1(S2000)) and Ueo Katsihiro (Garage SIFT AE86) Feel free to talk about anything drifting here. |
Re: Drifting
no drifting here but autoX and go karts
|
Re: Drifting
i like drifting but i dont get to watch it alot. i dont really have a favorite driver. i try to drift in my car but im not that good at it.. well i drive a dodge intrepid so its a bit front heavy so its hard to break the front wheels even a little loose from the ground

thanks i dont really know the technique but sliding the car around is very fun especially in the school parking lot. |
Re: Drifting
Drifting is insane
Rhys Millen definitely has to be my favorite. His GTO is insane at fishtailing! :yikes: when i first saw the Formula D competition on Spike TV I couldnt believe my eyes. hah the best is the American cars pwn the Japanese cars every time...and the sport started in Japan! ROFL! |
Re: Drifting
That's because the American xars are all torque, and that Rhys Millen cheats technically, his car's slip angle is greater than the steering angle, if you see pictures of the car, theres some plexiglass air catchers, which allow the car to go furthur without spinning, pretty lame to me
![]() *Note plexiglass sheets connecting roofline to rear wing.* |
Re: Drifting
meh. or you can say that the "sport" began in japan as a means of "spirited driving" in the mountains. and then americans found out about it and started the D1 and stuff.
i dont think the vertical supports are cheating at all tho. didnt know about them till you mentioned but the spoiler helps keep the rear wheels on the ground in most racing cirlces. is that cheating? |
Re: Drifting
D1 was actually started in 2001 in Japan. Option video had the first ever drift compitition in 1989, their 'Ikaten' comps. Most of todays D1 drivers came from those Ikaten comps.
And no, a spoiler is not cheating, however, I think the vertical polycarb inserts are. For one reason only, that it allows the slip angle of the car to be extended, therefore he can slide further before he spins out. I dont think you should have those, just increase steering angle. Ueo Katsuhiro in japan has a massive 74 degrees of steering angle in his Hachi-Roku (1984-1987 Toyota Corolla GTS in America) ![]() He can get more angle than in that picture, thats about 65 degrees. ![]() ![]() As for AutoX, I think that it's really cool, It allows the Lower powered cars to finally shine against some huge monster hp car. |
Re: Drifting
AE86's are awesome :D

Re: Drifting
I've done both. Well.. kinda.
I've raced Autocross one time just for kicks at an officially sanctioned event at my college run by FCSCC. The catch; I raced an electric car (Solectra Force - Basically a electric powered Geo Metro.) and wasn't PAX'ed right so I lost the heat. Should of technically been in my own class but whatever. It was a fun time. As far as drifting goes, front wheel drive kinda dissallows a lot of that, and the best drifting done with front wheel drift really isn't considered drifting, but is done in the snow. Last week was good for that. :D But I did "drift" down 95 South in Enfield on my way back from the River Rage competititon in New Hampshire this year with some friends in the car when my rear drivers side wheel wheel bearing locked up on me. I pulled over with smoke coming out from the back of my car, and thought it was just a flat tire.. and seeing no tires flat, started to try and drive again. The wheel was locked up, and a quick backup and forward move unlocked it and I drove it off the exit, flat top tire and all and changed the tire. $500+ later fixed the root of that problem. :( This is the result of that: ![]() That was kinda scary. :ahh:  Planned drifting = Fun! Unplanned drifting = Scary! |

Re: Drifting
You guys are too fanboy, you probably think the Skyline GT-R is the greatest car in the world, or a Supra. The only really cool drift cars out there right now are the twin GC8's of Team Orange, or the LS1 powered RX7.

Re: Drifting
I have never drifted on dry pavement, but Envoy+Snowy Parking Lot+No Parents=Mucho Mucho Fun!

Re: Drifting
You guys just be carefull when you drift, I've seen guys hit curbs and rip their suspension out forget even hurting themselves. Drifting is fun but only in a large area with no one around. The challenge may be to control uncontrolled driving but when again, you can't control it, it's not fun at all. And now to be more optimistic :D
edit: couldn't post the pic :( |

Also, any car is good for drifting, if its RWD of course, it just takes setup. |

Re: Drifting
drifting is sick nasty ... taka aono and sam hubinnette are amazing .. Taka took on Sam like 2-3 years ago at irwindale and they had to keep going and Taka's AE86 was keeping up with the V10 powered viper till the Ae86 overheated....
D1> formula D and the old school option vidoes are sick |
Re: Drifting
That would be Road Atlanta, 2005 you are talking about between Sam and Taka. I personally love the new BFG ads, with Sam and his new Charger.
|
Re: Drifting
What you call drifting is what us old times knew as Ridge Running back in the day...
Rt 10 out of Pine Lake,NY down Kane mountain on a full moon night. 69 Road Runner with a 440 with a 6 pack (3x2bbl carbs) ,four speed pistol grip, 60's on the front, 50's on the rear... awesome with the head lights out, using both sides of the road. :D BEEP BEEP! Just got to watch out for the deer  |

Re: Drifting
Mate, "One more times" are a staple of the drifting community. If you want to see a good example, pick up the Option DVD that covers the 2006 D1GP Ebisu round. They go through a round, with 4 Sudden death rounds, then another one with four, and a couple with three. Aono should have just had a better cooling system. :-p
PS - Kazama is a choob, lol. |
Re: Drifting
I'm not a huge fan of drifting. I like my car to stick to the road. My bmw 318ti does that quite well. We have a lot of mountain roads around here which are endless fun (provided you don't get stuck behind someone doing 10mph).
|
Re: Drifting
Honestly, I am a 'grip' racing fan first and foremost. Sometimes though, you need a little refresh from that, which is where drifting comes into the picture. :) When this thread was made, at least a year ago, I was a huge drift fanboy, dunno why, lol.
|
Re: Drifting
i too am a grip racing fan , but drifting is fun to do and watch ( i rode in my cousins supra at an unofficcal drift day) and yes TAKA NEEDS MUCH BETTER COOLING!.... aside from taka's bad cooling and stuff ( as i now go on a rant about drift cars) Most people are ready to give it all up to get a AE86, or think they need a viper to drift or even a supra ... the thing is the supra and viper have too much power ... the honda S2K has plenty enough power and is much lighter than a viper
I like drifting cause its not all about who has the most power or the best suspension , it helps , but its all about the driver |
