2006 Arizona Regional
So everyone. Who's coming to the regional, maybe we can set up something to all do Thursday night? Its gonna be fun!
|
Re: 2006 Arizona Regional
1006 is coming, all the way from Canada :) We wanted to try something new this year, so Arizona it is! Can't wait! It'll be a nice break from the snow I'm sure.
|
Re: 2006 Arizona Regional
Team 1212 will be there. And we have shirts to trade ^_^
|
Re: 2006 Arizona Regional
We'll be coming
|
Re: 2006 Arizona Regional
Team 234 Cyber Blue will be there and if there is a plan for something to do we will try to participate. A couple of years ago I think Amanda tried to set something up at Castles and Coasters but we had a major thunder storm come through that night. Keep us informed.

Re: 2006 Arizona Regional
I'm really looking forward to seeing so many familiar faces its been a few years in some cases.
Yea, Ill look into that, maybe it still wont rain till then were already at like 92 days with out it. |
Re: 2006 Arizona Regional
For any teams attending the Arizona Regional that would like an early look at the competition, I've assembled pictures/videos of as many team's robots as I could on our website. Go to http://www.team498.org and look at the 2005-6 Scouting pictures in the Images section. If anyone has pictures of teams I don't have, they would be greatly appreciated.
|
Re: 2006 Arizona Regional
On some of the pics, I get a 404 error page whenever I click it to enlarge.
|
Re: 2006 Arizona Regional
I'll try fixing that later today or tommorow. My guess is the picture didn't upload through the ftp correctly.
|
Re: 2006 Arizona Regional
The pictures are fixed now, should all be working well.
3 days left! |
Re: 2006 Arizona Regional
234 is flying out of Indy tomorrow afternoon and arriving in Phoenix! We're flying out a day early so we can take a day trip on Wednesday to see the Grand Caynon!

Re: 2006 Arizona Regional
Hope you both have a good trip here! It's nice weather right now, they're still slightly thinking rain is possible this weekend, but considering it's been almost 140 days since the last measurable rain fall, I wouldn't believe them.
Team 498 will have glowsticks with us again, like last year. |
Re: 2006 Arizona Regional
599!!!! woot. Yeah, so Sacramento, the second regional we usually go to, is the the same week as Arizona, and the team opted out of Vegas. So... 3pm wednesday afternoon, Arizona here we come. 8 hour bus ride :( . There is a social event at the Science Center i heard. see you guys at the competition.
|
Re: 2006 Arizona Regional
There is a social at the Arizona Science Center, the entire place is rented out for just teams and volunteers at the Arizona Regional.
See you all there! I'll be the coach with the blue hair. |

I feel kind of stupid But am I the only one that can't find the images section in the site??? All I see is the news in the middle, banner on top and sponsors on the left |

Here's a link directly to the scouting page, you won't really be able to navigate anywhere else on the site though because this page is supposed to be opened in one of the frames on the main page. http://www.team498.org/images05-06opp.htm And I've been able to add 3 more teams to the scouting section! 2 days left! We're somewhat disorganized, but I think ready enough. |
Re: 2006 Arizona Regional
We have nothing to hide. You may view some more pics of ours on the home page of our website www.team696.com :)
BTW, can anyone who's not attending a regional this week/weekend record the Phoenix webcast for me and somehow get it to me later? I'll send you a free 25' serial cable :) |
Re: 2006 Arizona Regional
I personally dont have any pictures of the finished robot. sorry. just have to wait a couple of days to see it.

EDIT: No practice robot for this event. :( |
Re: 2006 Arizona Regional
Do you know if team 60 (or anyone else) is doing the Castles and Coasters thing again like they tried to do in 2004? We missed out that year due to rain, but might be interested in going again.
|
Re: 2006 Arizona Regional

I have not heard about anything going on at Castles and Coasters for this year, so don't count on anything being there for it. Currently the forecast is set to rain various days during the Regional, and if it finally does rain that would probably kill the thing anyway. And it's okay; we've never had a practice robot, and we always seem to come out just fine. |
Re: 2006 Arizona Regional
Wow! I see on the rankings Canada's being represented quite well in Arizona by 1006 and 1241... 1006 is currently undefeated and in 1st place!!! 1241 is up there as well, awesome!
Nice job teams!!!! |
Re: 2006 Arizona Regional
Does anybody have any pictures of Team 60?
|
Re: 2006 Arizona Regional
I just heard via word of mouth that Cyber Blue 234 received 4 of the 6 awards given out today - Website, Imagery, Entrepreneurship, and the Regional Woodie Flowers Award to Chris Fultz.
Congrats you guys!! Can't WAIT to watch tomorrow on NASA TV!!! :) EDIT: It's confirmed, link here: http://www2.usfirst.org/2006comp/Events/AZ/awards.html WOW. Great job and congratulations!! |
Re: 2006 Arizona Regional
330's alliance scored 99 in one match today.
I have pics of 60 but I can't get them online until Sunday. Cory, it has your wheels but gold. It has your same gearbox as last year. It is not dom9nating but is doing quite well. |

Re: 2006 Arizona Regional
All of the awards are up on the FIRST site, and all of them are correct. The rankings are also up, they are official and are all correct.
It looks like the webcast failed for everything part way through the quarters; are team video taped all of the playoffs (I will confirm this), and hopefully I can post up the videos online so they can be viewed. Most of the semi-final and final matches became autonomous mayhem; teams kept aiming robots to ram opponents, and opponents kept changing autonomous modes to try to dogde them and still score. The only field errors that I saw occur at the competition happened during the finals, where the first time they ran a match the red goal did not light up in autonomous, and the second time the blue alliance did not initialize. Thanks to team 330 and 599 for picking us; it was a great time in the playoffs. We lost in the semis to the later Regional Champions in 3 matches, where at first we thought we won the 3rd match but then the score was changed after reviewing the awarding of a bonus (from what I've heard they reviewed whether the ball fired from our robot that landed in the center goal was out of the robot before the buzzer, to determine who won the autonomous bonus). It was a great series, and the refs did a good job of calling all the matches out there. Thanks everyone for a great AZ Regional, we'll see you all next year and hopefully we'll get enough money to see you somewhere else too! |
Re: 2006 Arizona Regional
Thank you to all the teams who helped make the Arizona Regional GREAT!
Thank you to the out of town teams who brought the rain. After 142 days without rain, we needed it. I suggest billing the state government for the cost of your trips. To the Final six, great matches. I wish they were still going on. Congrats to team 60 for another great regional. Seeing your pit is like going home for the holidays. Thank you team 987 for helping us score 111 points in match 57. Thank you to teams 234 and 698 for joining us. To the crew...OUTSTANDING JOB. Thank you for helping Mike! Even though we have a veteran number, we were a rookie team. Thank you everyone for helping our kids in the pits, on the field, and in the stands. Each year there is a rumor that the Arizona Regional will be a Super Regional next year. I hope so. Dave, thanks for a great speech! Thank you to my wonderful wife. I'll be home early tonight (if I can remember the address.) Ken |
Re: 2006 Arizona Regional
Congrats to teams 1006, 60 and 1897 on winnig the 2006 Arizona regional. You guys played great all throughout the competition and played an exciting match during the 3rd game of the finals.
Thanks to team 987 for choosing us to be in your alliance. It was a good alliance with team 1917 and we did the best we could in the finals and I know our team had fun. Congrats also to team 842 for the Chairmans. And a HUGE congratulations to team 1926 Navajo Heroes for the Judges Award. When the citation for the was being read for the award, the entire crowd was standing and cheering half way through the award citation. Their closest Home Depot is a 150 miles away!!! And their ONLY engineering mentor has to drive 2 hours to get to the place they work. They also dont have a good machine shop and built the ENTIRE robot using hand tools. Now theres a team that exemplifies the true sprit of FIRST. And a huge thank you to all the volunteers, referees and judges for making this regional a HUGE success. |
Re: 2006 Arizona Regional
hahah. Great regional. Most fun i have had in my two years until that third match of our. But still fun after the confusion. Thanks 330 for picking us and 498 for both being great alliance partners, we did great, but if we were to loose, at least it was a contraversial way. (I cant spell, i know). Had a great time and hope to see a lot of the same teams at LA regional. great fun though overall. Congrats to the winning alliance and also 842 for chairmans, 842, you guys were some of the nicest people i met, keep up the great work and that pit was ammazing.

Re: 2006 Arizona Regional
The regional rocked! Thanks to teams 39 and 234 for an awesome alliance in the quarterfinals. I had a blast, and as a senior soon to be graduating, I couldn't have asked for a better performance from my team and the teams around us.
Unfortunately, my team, 698, doesn't have the funds to go to another regional, nor do we have the funds to attend nationals, so hopefully I'll see many of you again next year as a mentor! (Unless of course any of you would be willing to take me along and pay my way ;) Just kidding) PS: Maybe you saw me at the AZ regional this past weekend...I was the short girl with pigtails that were usually dyed blue or pink and green and I was always wearing lime green gloves. (I do recognize many of you from your pictures!) |
Re: 2006 Arizona Regional
Thanks to 39 for drafting us, and to 698 for their awesome robot performance! You guys were great! We couldn't have gotten as far as we did without either of you.
Congradulations to all the other teams as well! |
Re: 2006 Arizona Regional
Thank you so much for the comment and to all that were supporting us.

Re: 2006 Arizona Regional
Thanks for everyone who made the AZ regional so much fun. As a rookie team, we struggled a lot on Thursday and Friday to get our robot running well, and because of the great help many of the other teams gave us (60, 234, 207, 1006 and many more) we could not ask for better performance during the playoffs. 234, thanks again for all the parts and for the shelves, we will use them well.
I do feel bad because we borrowed a battery and charger from someone, and lost track of who, so if you loaned 1897 a battery and charger, I still have it. If you will be at Nationals, I can give it to you then, or I can mail it. Just let me know. They have no markings, and the only significant feature is that the battery cables are pulled to one side. Finally, sorry to our alliance partners that we were not able to meet with you all after the finals, for most of the team had to catch a 7pm flight and because the finals ran so long, many of them were not even able to stay for the awards ceremony. Thanks again to 1006 and 60 for picking us and being such amazing partners, and helping keep our Bot together in the final games. Playing such a defensive role, our bot was taking a serious beating! I hope to see you all in Atlanta. Finally, does anyone have video of the finals I can download somewhere? Thanks! |
Re: 2006 Arizona Regional
WOW! What a ride. The 2006 Arizona Regional was awesome. Thanks to the planning committee and all the volunteers for running such a smooth event.
On behalf of Team 1006, I would like to thank everyone who cheered us on and supported us throughout the finals. We could not have asked for a better robot performance or team performance. Also, a HUGE thank you to Team 60 and 1897 for such an amzing alliance, you guys were awesome! The finals and semi finals were a nailbiter. For those of you who don't know what happened in the semis, I will attempt to explain. It went to a 3rd match and the score was posted and it said the match was won by the opposing alliance. However, there was a scoring error and after much deliberation by the refs and officials, the score was changed and we in fact won. Going into the finals, both alliances were nervous. The first match was won by the first place alliance. Our 3rd place alliance (1006, 60 and 1897) won a very close second match and it went to a third. This match was very close and a nailbiter but we managed to come out on top. THANK YOU SO MUCH TO TEAM 1013 FOR HOSTING US IN ARIZONA. WE HAD AN AMAZING TIME AND WERE BLOWN AWAY BY YOUR HOSPITALITY. THANKS AGAIN! This regional was awesome and thank you to everyone involved and everyone who came. It was unforgetable! |

Re: 2006 Arizona Regional
There are not enough kind words that I can say about the relationships formed and the lessons learned. We had a great time at the Arizona Regionals, we learned so much about teamwork, caring about others and gained valuable technical skills.
The challenges were absolutely unbelievable, there are a few problems that we have a solution for; however there are more to come in the following years as the rules of the events change (which is normal). My highest regard for the assistance from team 842 !! It was also great following you on each and every one of your Journeys, FIRST Robotics Regional/ Championships/Readers Digest etc.. You have a GREAT group of students!! Let me repeat that GREAT students!! Hope you all decide to come up to the canyon here, a little cultural exchange, go horseback riding, visit the school. Your school administration must be very proud of your team In summary, the Staff at the event should be commended, they were kind, professional and helpful, I thank FedEx for the courtesy shipping, believe me -it wasn't easy for them, finally "Team 60" from Kingman (our neighbors in the PIT)- you are AWESOME; and the Sporks of Camp Verde-who initially helped make the Navajo Nation transition into robotics almost seamless. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts and from the Center of the Navajo Nation. Amos |
