Re: 2006 Boston Regional
I enjoyed the cake being brought out onto the field during elim's. Good thing there wasn't a caking, since I don't think the roomba's would have handled that too well.

Re: 2006 Boston Regional
Had a great time in Boston today! Love the arena, and the emergency evacuation was just a "7th inning stretch" (gotta love those Red Sox!).... :)

Re: 2006 Boston Regional
This was a great regional, the organizers did a fantastic job making sure that everything went according to plan. There was a great mix of rookie and seasoned veteran teams present, which made it a lot of fun to compete in. Overall, I was very impressed and think that we shall see a regional in Boston for many years to come. By the way, congrats to team 121, 233, and 1568. You guys were amazing, you really blew us away in the finals.

Re: 2006 Boston Regional
The regional, from what I saw of it today, was amazing. The venue was really nice, the judges were amazing, the roombas were funny, the teams were very spirited. I don't know what more anyone could want out of a rookie regional. Great job to the planning committee!

I loved the regional. I would like to thank the planning committee for doing such a great job with a rookie regional. While I was only there for today, I did have fun, even though I was a human easel for most of the day, I had fun people doing it with me. Then I finally got down to do field reset and had a blast! Like I said it was a great event from what I saw. |

On behalf of Team 213, The Dirty Birds <KHS Dirty Birds' Website > I want to thank Team 40, Trinity High, and Team 69, Quincy High, for working with us and for their wonderful performance in the Quarterfinals, Semifinals and then the Finals themselves! Though we did not win, our alliance put up quite a fight against an extremely difficult alliance. And congratulations to Teams 133, 233, and 1568 for an amazing performance at the Regional. You were a killer team. I wish you all luck in Atlanta!!

From the Volunteer Coordinator standpoint:
Thank You TEAM New England!!!!!!!!!!! |
Re: 2006 Boston Regional
The Boston Regional was extremely well put together. From the Field crew to the pit announcers to the judges the regional was at the top in all areas. The entire atmosphere was great and the teams were all friendly.
Thank you to 121 and 233 for picking us for eliminations. Thanks for putting up the big points and letting us do what we did best, play defense. A special thanks to Andy Grady and every one on 121 and 233 who did scouting and helped us to set our auto to play effective defense in the elimination rounds. Also thank you to Team 40 for giving us all of those sky way wheels because we kept ripping the center out of ours. Also congratulations to team 40 for putting together an amazing alliance of 213 and 69 and making it all the way to the finals to give us a serious run for Championship. Congratulations to team 383 you guys were great I'm glad we got to meet you and hang out with you for a while hopefully we get to see you in Atlanta. |

Re: 2006 Boston Regional
Great regional. I met a lot of awesome people, and I really hope everyone I met can make it to Atlanta SOMEHOW.
Props to the awesome judge team, volunteers, refs, venue staff, can't thank everyone enough. To all the rookies, you guys rule, awesome showing 1757 with highest seed, <3 1965 & 1975 To team 233: In these short 3 days you have taught me so much. I will definitely be visiting you in Atlanta, great job on everything, your victory as well as your outstanding chairman's career. And team 75! how did those guys win two engineering inspiration awards in the same year :S Didn't know it could be done, not to mention autodesk visualization =) Overall, 11/10 for the boston regional :) |
Re: 2006 Boston Regional
If anyone has the space and bandwith to support a 55mb file for download, I have first hand video of Blair's dramatic entrance on Saturday morning.
What can I say... I've been to regionals for 7 years now. This was definitely one of the best regionals I've ever been to. The energy of the teams, the insane level of play, the speakers throughout the day, and the general atmosphere all made me completely forget this was the first year for this amazing event. I've been volunteering for Beantown Blitz for the 2 years it's been put together, and every time afterwards, the comment was always made- "how cool would it be to have a regional in Boston..." Now we know how cool it can be. And it was well beyond what we could have ever expected. Thank you to everyone- teams, volunteers, staff, VIPs, for making this one of my best FIRST experiences ever. |
Re: 2006 Boston Regional
What an amazing competition. Beyond words. Anyone have or know where I can get a copy of that photo montage that they showed?
edit: nvm i found the photo montage under the video archive on the regional website. |
Re: 2006 Boston Regional
I was very impressed with this innagural Boston event. The volunteers, refs, judges, and planning committee all did an amazing job!!
Congrats to teams 121, 233, and 1568. Truly an unstoppable alliance! Congrats to all the award winners and especially team 383. They are truly a role model team for the rest of FIRST! I hope to see some of you in Atlanta!! |
Re: 2006 Boston Regional
congrats to 233, 121, and 1568
my thanks to 233 for an awesome match with us scoring 132 points. |

The entire regional was a blast for my team. Though we had to face the killer alliance in the quarterfinals we were happy with where we ended up. We loved the venue and the teams there had as much GP as anywhere. The announcer was, as usual, terrific, and the lineup of judges was outstanding. The sheer number of rookies shows that New England FIRST is growing at an alarming rate (I heard a rumor of at least 13 more Boston rookies next year!). Great job to everyone involved in planning and pulling off this great event! |

Re: 2006 Boston Regional
That regional was phenominal, I don't know how much better they can come and words can't just describe it. The crew they had working it (including the organizers, judges, advisors, refs, volunteers, and random helpers) was just awesome and did everything right. I don't know how they can call that a first year regional, it looks like they've been doing it forever.
But hey the crew can't do the job alone, the teams chipped in a fair amount too. Going into the regional, they key stat was the fact that there were 14 rookies. Did you know that Every Single team made Every Single match on Friday and Saturday? It may not have been a "powerhouse" regional with lots of teams that are stellar, but the standard of play was quite high compared to many other regionals. Only one match had less than 10 points scored in it total, Q45 (intresting fact the winning blue allies all turned out to become the 6th seeded alliance) with a score of 7-0 after penalties, all the other matches were higher scoring. I had a great time at the regional and 1403 is planning on making the trip back for next years regional, and this time we are bringing a better robot. If your team isn't getting how great this regional is, just think of a perfect regional, with a 5 minute fire drill timed perfectly between alliance picking and playoffs. Oh a quick thanks to everyone's favorite corey for helping us out a bit. |
Re: 2006 Boston Regional
To put it simply, Boston was an amazing event. In my mind, it was more enjoyable than the NJ Regional. Everybody was extremely professional and treated eachother with gratitude.
I loved: -The Interspersement of Rookie and Veteran Teams- Team 75 had alot of fun helping everybody out -Special Guests- Where else can a High School Student have a conversation with "The Woz" for 10 minutes!? -Enthusiasm of Rookie Teams- You all did a stellar job and showed you were more than just "the new guys". And I absoluetly loved painting "Defense" my chest with 6 of my fellow team mates. I never would have thought I would do that! Everybody did an amazing job. Thank you all for putting on such an amazing event and making it worth the 6 hour bus ride up. -Andrew |
Re: 2006 Boston Regional
I want to thank team 1511 and team 125 for being such great alliance partners. It was amazing and we did the best we could.
I also want to give a HUGE thanks to team 88 tj squared and 1909 for helping us win our qualifying match against teams 233 and 126. That was deffinetly the most exciting match of both regionals we attended. |
Re: 2006 Boston Regional
Huge thanks to Tom Schindler for hosting a 55mb file for us- Blair's entrance on Saturday.

Re: 2006 Boston Regional

Re: 2006 Boston Regional
awesome, awesome, awesome regional.
The most fun i've ever had at a FIRST event, honestly. If you ever get a chance to volunteer, do it, its an amazing experience. Thanks to everyone who made it possible. |

Re: 2006 Boston Regional
We won the website award and got one of those shiny trophies. Fun regional by the way we copied team 75 by making a aim high logo in the stands, and we came pretty close to winning the regional. :yikes:

Consider dropping an email to some of the people on this list thanking them for this event. Most of these folks hear way more complaints in their day-to-day work than they do compliments. I had a blast talking with each of the rookie teams on Thursday. They were an amazing group (almost as great as the 15 rookie teams I had at Chesapeake ;) ) Props to Brad. Fantastic volunteers and planning committee. Obviously a steller group of judges that I had the pleasure of spending Friday with. And then on Sat. got to wear the red shirt and talk even more to some amazing VIP guests. I cannot describe how impressed these folks were with all of you. |
Re: 2006 Boston Regional
Boston was a great event. Congrats to Team 383 on winning the Chairman's Award. I look forward to seeing you guys in Atlanta.
Also, thanks for great work from the referees. We had a truly star studded group of refs at this event. You guys did a great job. |

Congratulations to 233, 121, and 1568. 233 and 121 were just amazing to watch as they did not give the scoring system a chance to rest.
Congratulations to team 383 for winning the chairmans award. See you in Atlanta. 233, you guys are a lot of fun to hang out with. The boxing matches were great and it really inspired a lot of our students. We had a lot of fun hanging out with you and 75 in the hotel. Thank you 467 and 88 for picking us! Congratulations to everyone!!! GO 1403!!! |
Re: 2006 Boston Regional
This was my first FIRST event, and I was totally impressed by the entire spectacle. It far exceeded my expectations.
Congratulations to all the winners! Special congratulations to my good friend Mark Holthouse and Team 1757 for the top rookie team finish. |
Re: 2006 Boston Regional
I would first like to say that the organizers and volunteers at the Boston Regional did a phenomenal job. It was as if this regional had been conducted for many years. Also, the refs, judges, and speakers all did an excellent job!
I would like to thank team 1685 and 1592 for doing a great job in the elimination rounds. It was a pleasure working with all of you. Lastly, I would like to congratulate the winning alliance. Your teams played a great game and your robots were very impressive. Great job, you deserve the gold medal! |

Thanks again to our alliance partners, teams 571 and 1100 - boy, I showed Blair with my memory skills. :D After playing defense against 1100 for 3 straight mathces on Saturday, we had to be allied with them at least once. It's too bad we drew the number one seed, but I think we put up a pretty good fight - not everyone can be George Mason. The highlight of the quarterfinals was pinning 233 in autonomous, though 121 ruined our fun by scoring anyway. Oh, and I'll apologize for my driver for running over the Mechanicats in the final seconds of the match! I know I have more to say about the whole experience, I'll be back later! |

I have to start by saying this was an amazing regional and by far the best i have been too yet. Also I wanna thank teams 233 and 1568. 233 you guys were amazing shooters and did a great job. 1568 you guys played some of the best defense i have seen and i hope to be seeing you guys next year.
I also want to thank the refs and volunteers for giving up their time to help make this regional such a great one. |
Re: 2006 Boston Regional
The most exciting part of the competition for our team came during our final round when we got our robot on the ramp without needing anyone to push us since we had always contemplated the idea of adding a little more clearance space on the bottom of the bot and lo-and-behold it worked during our final showing. Although we knew we had jsut been eliminated from the competition, we were all cheering at our accomplishment.

Re: 2006 Boston Regional
What a great time in Boston. Our MC Blair made the mistake of forgetting to announce Rhode Island on Friday. Both hotel rides up on Friday left me face to face with him and I let him have it . With an apology on Saturday, both Rhode Island teams (1568 & 121) performed seamlessly with 233 for amazing elimination rounds. Big thanks to all who helped us create a great machine and also thanks to our partners 233 & 1568. There is a good chance we will defend our title in Boston next year.

Re: 2006 Boston Regional
Boston was amazing. Thanks to everyone who made the regional truly memorable, with all of its firsts (no pun intended), including but not limited to Blair in the Zamboni and the "fire drill". It was great to meet Woodie and Dean, and it was great to meet so many amazing people on amazing teams... this was truly memorable.
but what i wanted to mostly give kudos to everyone there was the sportsmanship. I've been to about... -counts on fingers- ten or so competitions over the past five years (i was a tag-along for the first two) and in all of the competitions i've been too--with Championship Events at both Epcot and Atlanta included--i have never been to a competition with such nice people. Just because FIRST is all about GP and teamwork and sportsmanship, that doesnt mean that all teams behave as they are expected to at all times. It was a wonderful relief when not only our team, but other teams as well, were embraced and respected by our peers. There was seamless positive attitude and energy at the venue--in the stands, in the pits, and everywhere inbetween--that was unique to Boston, and i hope to find it at many more regionals to come. :) |

I'm the goofy adult mentor in the camo tux jacket (yes, I made it myself...I'm an electrical engineer...and engineers can do ANYTHING!) We loved watching the other teams in the finals since we got beaten at the buzzer in the quarter-finals....sigh! But, we won the "Imagery" award for all our hard-to-see red camouflague motif. The public on Commonwealth ave at the lunch spots were a bit scared to see all of us coming at them.....and that doesn't include you all in bright pink either! |
