571 will be staying at the Hyatt and will be bringing an xbox for some halo 2 - it looks like some other teams will be there so let me know if you guys want to set up a system link or anything. We're also trying to get a projector so we can have 2 boxes going in the same room, but we'll need another team to join us for the fun! PM or reply if interested.

Halo 2. It's why our guys do Robotics. The students brought five X-Boxes to Portland. All our rooms were on the same floor, but not adjacent. They brought lots of cable, which they strung along the outside edge of the balconies to get signal from room to room, where they commenced to play H-2 with as many as 16 people online at a time. There wasn't much sleeping going on Thursday night...

As a responsible adult mentor, I don't even want to know how they strung that cable across non-team rooms.

Who else is getting really psyched about this event??

I can't wait to see all the great teams in action at this first-year event. Looks like there will be some real bigtime machines there.

I want to challenge all Boston regional teams to change the stigma that northeast teams can only play defense...Lets give everyone watching the webcast something to watch...I want to see some high scores this weekend!

Good Luck to everyone!!

Re: 2006 Boston Regional

The range of teams at this event is amazing.

Any one going to watch will see perennial powerhouses like 69, and 233. As well as up and coming teams like 1511 and to top it all off there are 14 Rookie teams, Rookie all star may be the most competitive award this year.

I can not wait for the Boston regional, a new event, a relatively new venue and it is all in Boston.

I'll second that. My only complaint is that some of the boards they use to cover the ice are quite loose, and shift beneath you as you walk down the pit aisles.

Yeah, BU has ice on the floor of the arena. The tiles easilly slide on the ice. Kinda makes me want to pull up a tile in our pit and do some ice fishing :p

Re: 2006 Boston Regional

Wow, the first day just ended and I can't say enough good things about the event. The organization is awesome, everything is running smoothly, problems with the field are minimal. I love how we are able to we are able to walk around the field and talk to people. The teams are looking pretty good too, the 14 rookies are competitive and all the veterans are bringing a pretty good game.

The most intresting match of the day to watch was probably the practise match where 69, 121, and 233 all were on the same alliance. For those of you that aren't familiar with the robots they all have a similar design (round spiral)

well the bus is moving and i have to wait for internet again

Re: 2006 Boston Regional

So now that it is under way and the webcast is up here are few teams that are standing out to me.

121 - Nice shooter.
233 - What are the using so they don't get shoved around when they shoot.
1685 - Good defense

Watching the Webcast here in Enfield (I'm sick) team 233 looks awesome! Numbers seem to come up quickly here, don't they? I've seen a bunch of Teams up more than once in the last 30 mins.

Good luck to 839 (Go Hamilton SundStrand!) :)

Re: 2006 Boston Regional

Sorry I forgot to update, but heres my update after day 2. The competition is running really smooth, not many bumps, this really is a great regional and all the time they spent organizing it is really paying off.

Teams that have been impressive (in numerical order)
  • 40 - One of the most advanced robots I have ever seen in FRC, crazy mechanism wheels (soon available on a larger market from what I've been told) as well as a great combination of DeWalt transmissions and CMUcam usage.
  • 69 - These guys have a great robot that doubles as a washing machine, started high early off but they are still a very competitive team and in the top 5 last I checked
  • 75 - My buddies from Hillsboro have been playing really well, one of the best players of defence in this group by the look of it, the 8 wheel drive train they got going is pushing a lot of robots around.
  • 121 - consistently getting better and better
  • 126 - This robot is really great to watch, they have wheels to help them self-right/get up the ramp and they are consistently scoring too.
  • 233 - top of everyones list, pretty dominating but nothing like 25 at NJ, however still consistently the best all around robot here
  • 571 - These guys are one of my personal favorites, the robot is solid defensively and they score points in the corner goal really well. These guys would make great alliance partners for almost anyone because of their awesome versatility.
  • 1511 - These guys are easy great or have a good schedule, I think they got one of the best schedules here so they've had a good share of luck, even so, there robot is solid, with a strength in picking balls off the ground by the look of it. They look like they may get seeded so it'll be interesting to see how they work out later in the day.
  • My own team is going pretty well too, we had a lot of sauces early off shooting, but we ran into a problem with our gearboxes binding and consequently eating up the battery, but that was fixed after competition ended yesterday so hopefully we'll impress the scouts as the seeding continues, or even possibly get seeded ourselves.
Lets see how this all plays out, only 5 hours until we find out.

PS- The sundial network is awesome, if you have the means set one up at your regional, it really is handy.

Kristian Calhoun 25-03-2006 11:51

Re: 2006 Boston Regional

okay, the alliances were just selected:

1. 121,233,1568
2. 549,1511, 125
3. 40, 69, 213
4. 1685, 126, 1592
5. 157, 246, 383
6. 467,88, 1403
7. 97, 578, 1725
8. 1757, 1100, 571

good luck to everyone!

what happened at FLR? I remember having my friend from 1559 telling me that they couldn't have balloons because if they get lose and touch the ceiling the alarm will go off.

I just got off the phone with 1511's driver and apparentley someone pulled a fire alarm. Everythings fine otherwise.

I guess I can mute the video feed for a while, the beeping is getting a little monotonous.

Alarm is off and it sounds like people are re-entering.

Yeah, I can hear the alarms going off. It's so quiet though, even with the alarm system going off. I'm so glad this didn't happen at VCU this year.

I saw someone exit though an alarmed door. Not sure if everyone knew about it, we definately heard it.

I think all that first loss did was wake them up.
They're going to stomp everyone the rest of the way.

Re: 2006 Boston Regional

In that first semi-final match where 233 lost, i think its because one of the opposing alliance robots successfully blocked 233 AND 121 in autonomous mode.

Joel J 25-03-2006 15:26

Re: 2006 Boston Regional

233 is too easily defended (even in regular mode), and they continue to miss many balls at a time by being off. Either way, the finals will be hair raising!!!

The fire alarm sounded because worker in the concession stands poured water on a greasy/hot cooking surface.
