Help with Gear Tooth Sensor

Hey, can i have some information for the gear tooth sensor other than the data sheets. I have read them and I still do not understand what kind of outputs that it returns to the user. Is there also a way to view the output from it in real-time? If it is in the NI Labview software, where is it? I'd appreciate any help.

Re: Help with Gear Tooth Sensor

The gear tooth sensor provides a short high-going pulse every time a metal gear tooth passes the face of the sensor. It requires 12 volt power, and is intended to be connected to one of the interrupt-capable digital inputs on the Robot Controller.

Software on the RC is used to count the pulses from the sensor. (I believe there's a hardware counter as well, but I've never used it.)

You can view its output directly with an oscilloscope.

So the GTS doesn't have to have a gear-tooth actually TOUCH the PCB, but just pass by it? How does that work!?!?

Here is information on a similar device provided in the Kit of Parts last year.
