Who has a finished robot?

Re: Who has a finished robot?
Yeah, our robot is completely done. We always wonder why FIRST gives us 6 weeks... 2 or 3 is sufficient. Sorry, no pics because of bandwidth limitations on our website.
No one is done. I can virtually guarrantee it. :) |

Re: Who has a finished robot?
Your robot is never done until the time you put in the crate to ship it. There is always a need of tweaking for something.
but as far as the 1345's robot for this season goes... ... we are pretty much done. Time to tweak, code and LOT OF PRACTICE! Just like one of my fellow FIRSTers said "Make a gameplan, stick with it because consistancy is the key." |
Re: Who has a finished robot?
I walked into robotics today and I saw what looks the frame. It vaugely looks like what we have in CAD but much more majestic. This is all that I'm at liberty to say on CD. Guess you'll have to come to FLR to see the bot for yourselves :)

Re: Who has a finished robot?
I know what "finished" means, and I know what "robot" means, but what is this "finished robot" of which you speak?

Re: Who has a finished robot?
For ours, we can say that we are almost done. Three weeks in and a 75% complete robot---what we usually are by the 6th week.
We have: Drive/Chassis - Final Form minus battery holder (We are using the Super-CIM-powered chain-drive 8-wheeled system) Harvester - Prototype completed and will construct tomorrow Shooter - Prototype done (and it flies the balls much farther and faster than we have to, but that's really good) CMU camera - assembled, takes pictures, but still need to configure it to track it Autonomous Code - depends on CMU Camera Autodesk Animation - Storyboard long since done, working on building actual animation now Good news: It looks like that we're way underweight (drive's only around 40-lbs) so we can put extra stuff on the robot once we finish construction. We'll have pics as soon as we bring "Pedro" (our robot) to life. This is a whole lot farther than where we were for the last 3 years of our existence. And we have weight and time problems solved. Just some calibration bugs us Programmers have to work out. |

Re: Who has a finished robot?
I'm sorry, but in my 3 years of FRC, and 5 of FLL (wow, that makes me sound really old  ) I've yet to see a "finished" robot. I've seen incredible robots, but never a finished one. If you have ever "finished" a robot, you're just no looking hard enough for something to improve! :ahh:

Re: Who has a finished robot?
Last year we somehow managed to finish 3 1/2 weeks into the build season, no such luck this season!

Re: Who has a finished robot?
I think it all depends on what is considered a "finished" robot. If you mean the entire robot is built, then yes, some teams are probably done. However, I believe a truly finished robot is one that is not only competition ready, but is also programmed to the best of the programmer's abilities and has no room for improvement. In this case, no team will ever finish by ship date. I'm hard pressed to imagine that a programmer has EVER felt they cannot do any more to improve the code
