Fisher Price Gearboxes
ok... i have asked FIRST Q&A this question and the first time was answered by look at this rule *Which i stated in my question so i knew about the rule* and the second time i more clearly asked my question it was erased... yaya FIRST...
so it says that the FP gearboxes are NON INTEGRAL to the motor meaning you dont need it to use the motor, but it doesnt state wiether you can modify the given FP gearbox to how i want/need it... anyone know of clarifaction of this rule from past years or how your team inturpreted the rule!?! thx.... *integral - adj - # Essential or necessary for completeness; constituent: The kitchen is an integral part of a house. # Possessing everything essential; entire. n - A complete unit; a whole. enjoy :D |
Re: Fisher Price Gearboxes
Let me try to clarify: The Fisher Price transmission can be modified in any way, as long as the MOTOR itself is not modifed. This extends to changing the pinion on the motor shaft itself. So, if you want, you can torch that little plastic box into a heap of smoking slag, then run your motor until it stalls and burns. That is your preference.
P.S: I do not endorse melting your gearbox and then trying to use it.:D |
Re: Fisher Price Gearboxes
I concur with those who say that the rules allow any modifications to the FP transmissions and you may also modify the output shaft of the FP motor (including welding to it, pulling the gear off, putting a new year on, grinding, smashing, bending, etc.) but not the insides of the motor.
Even if this was not allowed, you could STILL modify the transmission legally (imho) it would only require that you account for the fair market value of the transmission in your cost calculations. For clearly you can buy these gearboxes (or trade for them or have them donated to your team, etc.). In this case, they become a COTS part which can be modified to your heart's content as long as you don't break the COTS rules and you properly account for their costs. Bottom line: modifications to the FP gearbox are legal. Joe J. |
