Nason Pressure Regulator
 
Hello, this is our teams second year and this year we decided to try to incorporate some pneumatics. After seeing what the challenge was we decided not to use any at all. But i still want to get it going. The only thing i have not got done is how to wire the Nason Pressure Regulator. I know you are supposed to wire it with a "PMW like wire." But what is this wire?......I work with electronics normally so pneumatics isn't my thing but i took on this project and want to see it through. So if someone could tell me how to wire the Nason Pressure Regulator that would be great. Thanks.

Use a spare 3-pin white/red/black PWM cable and strip the male end (or use any small gauge wire for that matter).

Wire one terminal to ground (black on the PWM cable).

Wire the other to signal (white on the PWM cable).

Hook these wires up to a digital input using a 3-pin connector (the female end of the PWM cable).

The default code will do the work for you, assuming the switch goes in digital input 18 and the compressor is on relay 1.

thanks...and does it matter which prong the black or white wire goes on?

I was instructed by a mentor earlier today that I was supposed to wire the Normally Closed position with the +5v (red) cable, and the other terminal with the white (signal) cable... This is my first year with the penumatic system, so I assumed he knew what he was talking about.

After that didn't work, I rewired it the way that I wanted to originally (the same way abwehr posted) and the compressor would not cut off, we had to manually hit the kill switch at about 125psi... Is there a possibility that our switch is permanantly damaged?

It's a probability. I would check with your software crew, though. It might seem a bit off, but make sure that part of the code (the pressure control and relay output) is properly integrated. And just for future reference, don't go out and blind wire. Every sensor has some sort of spec sheet, not matter how simple it seems. If you can't make sense of it by yourself (and sometimes you won't, trust me), consult a mentor with some sort of background on sensory or electrical

I would check out Pneumatics FIRST, a resource designed specifically for pneumatics use in the FRC. Especially on there i would look the the 2006 Pneumatics Manual.

I'd test the sensor with a multimeter.

I happen to be all three... Software, Electrical, and Pneumatics... Not too many show up at daily meetings, so that's what I work on.

I'm confident it's not the code that's causing the problem, rather the wiring and it having something to do with using the wrong wiring initally.

I checked the manual beforehand but never saw anything about the wiring of the pressure switch, and our mentor seems to know what he's saying as far as electrical, every question I've had about it so far he's answered without a problem... So I was surprised when I found out about the correct wiring.

I'll check the switch tomorrow with a multimeter asap, I had to leave today before getting the chance to troubleshoot at all.

As a side question, we are running a single cylinder right now. The air from the compressor comes in one end of the tank and the gauge is at the other end of the tank, on a T with the pressure gauge. Is the pressure switch supposed to trigger at 60 or 120psi?

Online at www.pneumaticsfirst.org and in the Pneumatics manual, it says that it closes at 95 psi and open at 115 psi.
