why does everyone say there is no action in nascar? you try driving a 3400 pound car with 700+ horse power at 190 mph with another car inches ahead of you, a car inches behind you, and a car that you can reach out and touch right next to you. and they say that the only action is the "occasional crash" i'm not a big fan of cart or f-1, because it dosen't take much skill to drive them. they are so light and have so much down force. NASCAR takes skill. personally i think everyother sport boring.

I think that open-wheel racing at 220+ MPH is more exciting than 160+ MPH closed wheel racing. I like NASCAR, but in NASCAR if you hit someone it's not as big of deal as it is in IRL/CART/F1.
I'm sure all forms of professional auto racing take lots of skill, and I think that winning the Indy 500 takes more skill than the "average" race car driver. In the end though, any form of racing is cool to me. Also, for those of you attending the race with scanners/ham radios: http://www.indyscan.com/sports/2002-500.htm |
One thing that I also like a lot more about Cart/F1 is the race courses themselves...
NASCAR every track pretty much is an oval of some sort. As much fun as it is watching cars drive around in a big circle weekend after weekend I would rather watch an Indy car drive down streets - its more interesting (and i would argue takes MORE skill than driving in a circle...and it's not like indy car's dont get close to each other either). All in all, Hockey is better. :) |
Yeah, I see what you mean. I like it all, but to me CART is like a cheap(er) F1.

road racing is not exciting. take F-1 for example. usually 90% of the time the race is decided in the first turn. how exciting is that? not very
woo!! 1000:cool: |
Let me just say this:
Alcohol is for drinking. Gasoline is for cleaning parts. NITRO is for racing!!! You take 2, 6000 horse Nitro funny cars doing over 300 mph. Now that's racing. Win or go home. In drag racing everything happens in front of you. Unlike RRRooooaaarrrr, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait RRRoooaaarrr, wait wait.... ad naseum :) We don't need no stinking 500 miles to determine the winner, just a quarter mile will do. I kinda like IRL because one of our affiliated companies (Bryant) is a sponsor. Look on the Kelley cars and you will see the Bryant logo. Also the Tom Kelley dealerships are here in Fort Wayne, Indiana. I have Scott Sharp, Al Unser Jr. and Mark Dismore autographs on my Bryant hat. Wayne Doenges *puts on flame retardant suit* |
I think that you really have to be at the Indy 500 to get all of the excitement. I have seats in the Paddock right on the front straight-away, and seeing the cars come flying down for the start of the race is really exciting. I've never been to the Brickyard 500, but I've been to a few practices and I was kind of bored. The cars seemed slow and the fact that they can just bump each other around with little consequence I thought was kind of silly. I've never been to an F-1 race, and I'd really like to go to the U.S. Grand Prix.
