mounting andymark wheels
 

I recieved the wheels and they seem different from the ones in the cad drawing or the ones in the pics on the side. How do you guys mount your wheels to the shafts withouth them moving sideways?

We used 1/2 keyed drive shaft and used the new universal hubs. We placed the hub on the wheel and cut some keystock the length of the hub. We then put collars on either side of the wheel to keep it from sliding.

Yeah, use the universal hubs with 1/2" keystock and shaft collars.

cool..but one problem...these are the front and forward and will be spinning ON the shaft not with the shaft...so how do you keep them in place then...the andy mark wheels turned out different

If they are going to be non-driving wheels, use brass tubing as a spacer to center your wheels. Works for us ;)
Just find some tubing with the I.D. the same as your shaft O.D.

that was the original idea but these wheels are retarted...first off the roller bearings inside have like 5mm of sideways movement...if we use brass tubing on the plastic cap which holds the bearing in, the plastic will get worn out in minutes...if we take it off and put the brass tubing up to the bearing it wont do anything because the wheel will not be supported, the bearing will be...the only way we see to do this is with a thrustbearing

Is it possible that these wheels aren't designed or the right style for the type of application you are doing? Couldn't you use the universal hub and then make the shaft spin in something other than the wheel? (i.e. another bearing mounted in a frame, etc.)

Just curious, did you take the plastic cap off or did it fall off?

This application simply needs some tubing and some washers. Cut some aluminum tubing or PVC pipe (with an id of .75 or greater) to the right length (minus about 1/8") to locate your wheel on your shaft. Then, put a 3/4" id washer between the wheel and the tube. The outside diameter of the washer needs to be big enough to act as a shoulder for the wheel's plastic hub. Washers will capture the wheel. Tube (or PVC pipe) will capture the washers.

thanks Andy but we solved this another way...strip the inside of the wheel, take out the bearing..then make metal caps which go in place of the plastic ones, the will also house ball bearings, the shaft will sit on that...it will then require some spacers yes
