Dean Kamen- Brittanie (BAbell_836) and I have talked with him without knowing who he was (Sorry- we were the new kids then). We now feel the need to redeem ourselves from our first impression.

Also, Dean Kamen. However, meeting the Real Woodie Flowers would make Chesapeake Regional 2006 friggin' sweet as well.

Re: Who do you want to meet? (2006 Edition)

Oh geez...this could be a long list.

I'd love to re-meet all the people I've met over the past few years. I really won't remember to approach you unless something clicks, so please feel free to catch me as I'm walking around. I'm not likely to be in the pit, but I will be scouting.

New people...? Ahh...

Talked to, haven't met:
Matt Krass
Cory McBride
Dan Brim
Adam Richards
Jake Gallagher
Heidi
Dave Lavery

A few others, but that's the first few that come to mind.

I saw the promo video from last year and found out Larry Page was part of FIRST. Since then, I've been looking forward to seeing him in the future.

I'd shake his hand, and tell him thanks for Google.

I've met Woodie, signed his jacked, had a brief chat. I've met Dave at least 3 times, and got a chance to swing by 116's shop a week or two ago (with some verrry interesting designs on the whiteboard ;)). So now I need to meet Dean to complete the FIRST idol trifecta.

I'd also like to meet all of my fellow FIRSTwiki admins and the FSN development team.

I'd really like to meet anyone who will say: "Woah, you're phrontist? I know you from chiefdelphi!".

Its beginning to look a lot like CHAMPIONSHIP

I made efficient use of my time last year and nailed off almost everyone on my list. I was able to do so because my team wasn't competiting. This year (as of today) it appears both of my teams are competing! I'll most likely be in the 1604 pit, if not check 1390's, I'll meet anyone who comes to find me. Honestly I'm looking forward to just seeing all my friends again, that's what FIRST is really about to me.

Matt Krass 04-02-2006 03:39

Re: Who do you want to meet? (2006 Edition)

Nobody wants to meet the FIRSTcast crew besides Genia? And she only wants to meet half of us :P

Ah well

I'm looking forward to anyone I can find really, no specific list, but if a random person runs up to you and goes "Hey it's you!" it's probably me...

Eugenia Gabrielov 04-02-2006 10:23

Re: Who do you want to meet? (2006 Edition)

I didn't even know who was on FIRSTcast...:) I just listed friends.

A suggestion to those making meet lists:

1) Try to meet people at times when they're NOT frantically fixing their robot, or at a time when they're not on the clock for scouting information for their team. Greeting people at a bad time is the equivalent of them being friendly and having to run off. :)

2) Don't be afraid to send somebody a private message or an email saying that you enjoyed talking to them this season, and ask them when is a good day for them to chat. That's how I contacted a few people last year, only to find out that they were very busy, but we still ended up hanging out for a while when they had downtime.

3) Attend the Webhug. So many people from Chief in one area...you're certain to find someone.

4) Try to let people know when and how you will be available. For example: I scout most of the day each day, though I run back and forth on occasion. But you won't find me in my pit most of the time, and I'm hard to pinpoint in the stands. Many people go to pits asking for friends, and unless said friends are on the pit crew, it can be hard to find them. So do the world a favor and let people know when and where you are available (if you want people to find you).

Jessica Boucher 04-02-2006 11:53

Re: Who do you want to meet? (2006 Edition)

If you look at the last few years of lists, there's a consistent trend...they can silently hurt more than they help, and can get terribly repetitive to read.

Genia's brought up a lot of fantastic pointers, and I would rather see people be excited about seeing everyone, keep an internal list, and let people know where you will be than just posting it.

It's a celebration - not just of a few, but of everyone. I'm thrilled to be returning.

I have a few I need to meet though (some to trade owed shirts to and some regular FIRST AIM/Teamspeak/IRC chatters I haven't met yet as well)

You know who you are.

I will go to Championship 06, I will go to Championship 06, I will go to Championship 06....

Maybe I should put together some sort of book or something to have people autograph as I meet them.

-sigh- Alas, I'm still not known well enough to be a desired acquaintance.
Personally, I'd like to run into Tytus, we tossed things back and forth quite a bit a while back over the boards...
I've already met Dave (although he probably doesn't remember me much, My first team #927 was mentored by Herndon in 2002, we were at their meetings on a few occasions, I had no idea who he was at the time as I was a rookie. :ahh: )
Hmmm.....

I've met Wetzel, he too probably doesn't remember me much...

I dunno, I'd like to meet everybody really. I missed the CD Webhug at Champs in '04 due to a match (-sigh-). Hopefully I'll get a chance to see some folks at VCU.
(BTW, for those trying to place a face with a name, my mother is the Sr. Mentor for VA, and I led the Advanced Device Showcase workshop at the VCU Kickoff, just to name a few things I've done recently. I'll probably be assisting with the VCU Practice field as well. )

Of course I will be going to GLR! I’m the head of scouting so I kinda need to be there. But I don't know how easy it’s going to be to get out of classes. (Swando has been trying for 4 (?) yrs now) But there is always the alternative... But o well if I can go then ill go if not ill watch at the theater.

I can't wait to see you and Brian and the rest of 1023, our teams should so ban together to do all of the scouting!

As a volunteer and mentor I have had the pleasure of meeting Dean Kamen, Woodie Flowers, Andy Baker, Tony from Innovation FIRST, and many others who make the FIRST competitions possible. I would be delighted to meet up with them again.

I also would really like to meet Larry Page. Meeting people at FIRST events always tends to be an "interesting" experience. This will be my first year going on my "own" w/out a team so hopefully I will be able to meet more people this year instead of just concentrating on our robot and hanging out with my team.

BTW last year I met one of my best friends in an elevator @ The Days Inn... just kind of an interesting story.

I would love to join you, we need to get Dumpling Bozo passes too.

I want to meet a lot of people, and re-meet a few, since I'm tired, here's the one's I want to re-meet:

Mike Walker - I met him in Texas in 2003, he fixed my autonomous, I didn't realize who he was until later.
Andy Baker - Always nice to see Andy
Dave Lavery - I got in his way last year! He was stuck behind 263 on the way back from the field and I didn't even notice, sorry Dave

And there's probably more escaping me..

[edit] I just searched the thread out of my own egomaniacal tendency and I found only one person who wants to meet me :([/edit]

Well since this will be my first Championship Event since 2003, there is a whole long list of people i want to meet. Add to that all the people who I got to meet last year at IRI but was busy reffing/webmastering/scoring tableing/running around doing to muching (Bharat I'm talking about you, and you Koko...and yeah alot of people)... I'm always up for meeting more people from the great Hoosier state that I haven't already gotten the pleasure of working with....

People I dont want to meet because they smell:
Andy Baker
Amanda Morrison
David Kelley
John V
Stu Bloom
But i guesse thats for another thread...

Just Kidding, Andy smells like roses, and Amanda smells like books...but the others still smell bad.
