Solenoids
I know that the pneumatic solenoid which was provided in the kit is legal. But, are we allowed to use an electromagnetic solenoid legally on a FIRST robot? I'm just a little nervous about it being legal or not, since we ran into a problem with an electrical/electronic component which the judges deemed illegal last year, resulting in time being wasted at the competition.
I apologize if someone already posted this, but I wasn't able to find it. Thanks a bunch! :) |
Re: Solenoids
No. Look on the official Q/A boards.

Look no further than the team manuel. In the robot .pdf file you find the following flowchart which should be definative. Page 14 of 40 flowchart
2006 FIRST Robotics Competition Manual, Section 5 – The Robot, Rev D Page 14 of 30 Electronics? Is the part an electronic component, i.e., designed to conduct electricity? Is it a legal additional CIM motor or servo? Is the part a motor, solenoid, pump, or other actuator? NO! It may not be used |
