Dodgeball Anyone?

Well, last Saturday, after cleaning up and talking about what still needs to be done, some of the mentors and students stayed after and played an awesome game of dodge ball (students vs. mentors of course!)

Well, this Saturday, the whole team stayed after to play dodge ball.

I can see this happening ever Saturday now when we're done, as a sort of team building and fun time thing.

Have any other teams done things like this?

heh, usually when balls get thrown around on my team it has more of a spiteful intent.

We played dodgeball one weekend :)

Two years ago when we had the really really big dodgeballs we would mess around with those when we were bored.

Re: Dodgeball Anyone?

I don't know how it happened but last Friday as we were leaving the lab a dodge-ball game broke out. Lessons learned were:

1. Don't play dodge-ball in the lab. ( I should know this I used to teach shop courses)

2. Don't play dodge ball with safety glasses on. (This causes scarring)

3. Don't hide behind the table holding unassembled robot parts.

4. Avoid those sprinkler heads in the ceiling.

5. Man does your arm hurt the next morning.

6. Hey, David Kelly quit hiding behind the EDM you are going to get the balls all wet.

7. Make sure you are there early Sat. morning to deny everything. :o

OK now throw!

Re: Dodgeball Anyone?

Yea, we were playing dodge ball a couple days when we were waiting for our mentores to arrive. It was fun because we sort of have this big quad area in the center of the school and it's nice outside in Orlando FL at about 4:30 in the afternoon.

Re: Dodgeball Anyone?

Well yes we have. When we were throwing the balls around yesterday trying to see if we could get the balls in the low goals then all the mentors came out on the field and took all the balls and started throwing them at the players station. Then we had to go out and get the balls if we wanted to throw them. Then it just got to be a dodgeball game. It was awesome!

Hey Andy, c'mon out to Oconomowoc! We'll take you on any night of the week ;)

A few mentors and students got into a dodgeball match a week or so ago. It was amazing good fun. Yes, amazing because we didn't break anything in the process :yikes: That Ricky Q. really can throw...even if he can't aim to save his life...

I think FIRST was kind of asking for this to happen if they intended for teams to practice at all. Maybe they intended this year's game to also be "team building". Who Knows? :ahh:

We were gonna do this, except the robot gets to play.

We've had regular dodgeball tournaments since week 2. When we opened the KoP I was the first person to hold the ball they gave us and my first thought was that it'd be perfect for dodgeball.

Our team leader has declared an "official" scored tournament to be held once the build season is over!

As much as we want to play DogdeBall we haven't got the chance to play it yet. Hopefully by the time the ship date comes around we should have played it atleast once or twice.

The manufacturing and design team in my team played last Saturday, but I wasn't aware of what we were doing. All I knew was that we were taking the box of Poof balls and lining them up in the middle of our main hallway! D: Too bad we only got to play one game.

I don't know about Dodge ball, but last Saturday while waiting for more of our mentors to come back from getting lunch we played Kickball, girls against guys. Girls won, 17-16. :D

I somewhat question if the safety glasses hurt me or saved me. I tell you what, the gentleman(who shall remain nameless  ) who threw that ball had some force going behind it. It was a freight train closing on my head. Sometimes people just have to learn the hard way. ;)

Re: Dodgeball Anyone?

During Rebound week, there was a pindodge Tournament between all the classes. For those of you who are wondering what pindodge is, it's just dodgeball, but our school lets us play it because the "other" way to win is to knock down bowling pins. One game was played each day after school. Since most of our robotics team is juniors, we hauled our prototype shooter out for our first match (juniors v. 8th graders). Unfortunately, administration thought it would be unsafe and wouldn't let us use it. Fortunately, according to teachers who heard about it from the underclassmen later, we scared the bejesus out of them. Also, no way was it unsafe. Those baseball players were throwing way faster than 12 m/s.

This is a poor animator locked up in the computer *COUGHdungeonCOUGH* lab, saying that we computer folks have been play dodgeball, too! Just... not with balls. In the spirit of Scotts post: Lessons learned.

1. Omniwheels hurt, a lot

2. Burnt-out CD's make great frisbees

3. As do records

4. Pencils are sharp

So please, take pity upon your poor designers and animators and give us some poof balls before we hurt each other!

In South Windsor High School we have a dodge ball club. Its the funniest after school activity i have ever been too. around 40 kids show up and pay 5 bucks to join. we play 2 times a week for 2 hrs. Its a great time.

A human version of the game would be a great way to have fun and build a team for the newbies. This could use last year's game and play it with humans.

We got more balls (other than the one original one) and are hiding them each night to make sure other students do not get into them.

While at competition we may play.

Some guys and myself ran around outside and just threw balls at each other. My hands were really cold by the end, though. (It was really cold, and my aim is bad enough without gloves)

The NYC Regional will have AIM LOW: DODGEBALL as the Team Social Event assuming we get final approval! We have compiled rules and regulations into a formal document to make this a fun and safe event. Those teams coming to Riverbank the secret is out; start practicing.

**I'm glad I no longer have to tell my students that I'm drafting the rules to Unlimited Team Twister where we have the world's largest twister mat, everyone wears a lime green shirt and robots are on the ramps that are firing balls at the participants.

Last year our school held a school-wide dodgeball tournament (because of the movie), and if they have it this year, we might enter our robot (administration permitting). I wonder what the rules are about hitting the robot... does it have to catch it?

We're finishing up our AIM LOW: Dodgeball Manual. I'll post it as a WhitePaper in hopes that other Regionals that don't have a social planned will pick it up and for the off-season competitions.

Last night was the first Dodgeball game our school has played in 7 years. The school district stops DB after 5th grade so this was a big deal for us.

We had so much fun pegging eachother. I barley get hit the way I move. It's almost like a Michael Jackson routine.

Today our team was up at school working on the robot and i got bored so i went out into the hall and started throwing the balls into the corner goal and other people came out and we basically had a 10-15 person dodge ball game going....we ended up getting yelled at by our teacher since there are many things that we have to do. Later we went to the cafeteria and tested out our shooter with higher ceilings the person who was driving decided to turn the shooter on everyone else and let me tell you, poof balls in the face from a few feet away hurt.

Re: Dodgeball Anyone?

I haven't seen as much of dodgeball as much as improvised basketball, in that the guys were throwing the balls into the ball bin from a distance out of two basic needs: 1)To collect them and 2)To see who could get the most in. The results?

We won't be winning many basketball games. :p

Ya like court said 2 years ago we played with those and one of the members of our team got a broken nose and the company that gives us lab space didn't like that so we haven't been able to do that kind of stuff but don't get me wrong balls get thrown and after i built the proto type for our shooter i had some fun if you know what i mean (the bruising gave away the fact that we exceeded the maximum velocity)
