CIM motor shaft extender (adapter)
I was wondering how I can extend the shaft of the CIM motor with an adapter. Since the shaft output is keyed and the I want a keyed extention too. Does anyone know any adapters? And maybe wheels that might fit on to that extention?

Re: CIM motor shaft extender (adapter)
I assume you mean the small CIM. You can machine a coupler type piece with an O size hole in it, and then buy an 8mm bushing and a 2mm broach from McMaster, than put the hole and hekway in it. You probably won't be able to go any longer than an inch though. That's why I said coupler. You could probably find a metric felx coupler you could buy, but it'll have a metric output side too.
For wheels I like NPC wheels or Colson Wheels. |

Some come with keys, some not. I would guess that will be able to get by without a keyed coupler. I would suggest this one: 2469K2 (8mm = .315 - close enough for this coupler to work) ![]() Note that some of the couplers actually have different input and output shaft diameters so you can couple a .312 shaft out of the smaller/more powerful CIM with a .500 shaft. If this is what you want, try this one: 3084K31 It comes with a small bore of .235 that you will have to open up to .312, but that is nothing that 10 minutes and a lathe can't fix. Joe J. |
Re: CIM motor shaft extender (adapter)
Here is one that we made to couple the CIM shaft to a quarter inch one, Sorry if you can't read it... It's my first attempt at drawing in paint ( don't have and CAD on the comp I'm on" :) P.S. Change the .156" Diameter to whatever size the small CIM shaft is |
Re: CIM motor shaft extender (adapter)
Wow, thanks that helps, Now all that i need is wheels that have a 6" diameter that have a keyway, non pneumatics.

Re: CIM motor shaft extender (adapter)
You didn't mention what bore you want on the wheels but I've used these before and liked them. http://www.npcrobotics.com/products/...at=22&mode=gfx We put them on a 220+ lb robot with NPC battlebot motors and the delrin hubs never gave a problem.

Re: CIM motor shaft extender (adapter)
darn, no 5/16 shaft hole. Things kinda changed, I have been looking around all day for a wheel just like the wheel chair ones, but no ball bearing, that I can weld too (steel to steel shaft) (not aluminum).

Re: CIM motor shaft extender (adapter)
Is there any specific reason for not using aluminum?

Re: CIM motor shaft extender (adapter)
Consider using (2) 8mm trantorque and a tube.
You can do this: . .....................WHEEL WHEEL . .....................WHEEL WHEEL . .....................WHEEL WHEEL . .....................WHEEL WHEEL . ..........TUBE TUBE TUBE TUBE TUBE TUBE TUBE . .........TRANTORQUE...................... TRANTORQUE .....BEARING .MOTOR SHAFT ............... AUXILARY 8mm SHAFT AUXILARY 8mm SHAFT . .........TRANTORQUE......................
