Monty was amazing, I loved it. Thank you teams 1089 and 371!
Yet did anyone notice some problems with the scoring system? Missing/Adding points? Also did anyone archive the webcast? If so could someone send me recordings of match 18 and/or 26? |

Re: 2006 Monty Madness - Spread the Word!!!
Go Ahead :D
Wait hold on, the first thing you did when you got home from Monty Madness is go on Delphi around 2ish? |
Re: 2006 Monty Madness - Spread the Word!!!
Monty Maddness was amazing :D ! It was pretty smoothly for the most part, and the facilities were amazing!
Thanks 1089 & 371, woot woot! It was incredibly fun coaching Team 1923 throughout the day, and then reverting back to 25 for finals. Everyone did an awesome job. |
Re: 2006 Monty Madness - Spread the Word!!!
Wow, what a great event! Thanks to 1403 and in particular Dave Kazan for being such gracious hosts! Even with the initial glitches, you worked it out and got it rolling! I sincerely hope you consider doing that again.
Some of our teammates and mentors couldn't make it, so they were watching the webcast and calling me throughout the QFs and SFs asking what was going on. It was so cool you did that. Obviously, thanks to 25 and 371 for being such excellent alliance partners, and thanks to the judges for our "Woodie Flowers Jr. Award"! Everyone was so excited!!! The one comment I need to make is -- my wife is going to kill me when she finds out how much MM merchandise I bought. I mean, come on "How to survive the Robot Uprising?" How could you NOT get it. :) I bought about $70 worth of stuff. Great job, guys!!! |

Thank you for your kind words and encouragement both in your post and during the day (even when we weren't quite sure what we were doing during our long day's journey into night :o ). We, in Montgomery and Team 1403, together with about 85 volunteers from FIRST teams and alumni all over (particularly our neighbors, Team 75 in Hillsborough), were working to make the event enjoyable for everyone involved. We're very happy that we really got a good turnout from the non-FIRST community so that they could get a taste of what robotics, science and technology education are all about. Now when we talk with the schools, residents, and businesses in town, we're hoping that there will be instant recognition as to what we're talking about when we mention robotics and FIRST. Thanks again to you Chris and everyone who has displayed such "gracious professionalism" at our event. It really is so appreciated. Thanks, David K. |
Re: 2006 Monty Madness - Spread the Word!!!
I personally was amused by the amount of people that came to watch the swim meet/practice thing that ended up watching us instead :D
I also loved how organized everything was, 1403 did an excellent job with this. Even in times of chaos ;) these guys managed to pull things together and fix the issue. heres to 1403 and all the Volunteers that made Monty Madness a success |
Re: 2006 Monty Madness - Spread the Word!!!
What A fabulous event, from the moment we walked in, to the moment we left, we had a great time. Team 1403, Thanks for hosting the event, it was superbly runned.
And of course, Thanks to team 1089 and 25 for picking us as an alliance partner, you guys rock. |
Re: 2006 Monty Madness - Spread the Word!!!
monty madness was awsome! lots of good teams, cheap food, cheap merch, helpful volunteers who knew what they were doing. the only thing that was sort of bad was running late, but they made up some time by rushing teams to move faster and by canceling qualification matches and the mentor match.
Good Job 1403 for an awsome event, Team 237 will definately be back, if not the whole team then some of us to help out atleast! :yikes: |
Re: 2006 Monty Madness - Spread the Word!!!
Having that much fun is probably illegal somewhere in NJ. ;)
Thanks for 1403 for being the host, thanks to Dave for setting things up and running it, and a major thanks to all the teams who made Refing a pretty stress free day. |
Re: 2006 Monty Madness - Spread the Word!!!
I'd like to personally thank everyone that came down for a very successful First Time Off Season. We hope everyone enjoyed the event, and we are considering planning next year already (we have a pool in our school, hehe)
I'd also like to give a very big thanks to everyone involved with the media end of it, the webcast, the video footage (HD Video archive coming soon), the audio. Being part of the Ref crew all day yesterday was not only a honor, but a lot of fun too, I believe Sara, Mike, Liz, Adam, Joe, Jay, and Sky all had a great time in a fairly easy to Ref event. I want to thank all the volunteers on field reset also, those of you that stayed with us all day deserve a BIG thank you. Dave Kazan, deserves the biggest thank you of all, and if it wasn't for his Hardwork, Motivation, and Leadership, none of this would of happened at all. Thanks again for running the show (and doing such a great job at it) We knew we didn't have the most competitve event this year, but we did know we could have the most fun at an event this year. And I think we did have the most fun at an event this year. Quote:
Keep May 19th Open in your calendar's for next year...well maybe |
Re: 2006 Monty Madness - Spread the Word!!!
Well we're not planning any event for next year right now. At this point, we're going to take a breather and assess what we'll do going forward, which will certainly include more activities than an off-season event (like building the 2007 robot  ).
Just one thing: I've noticed that there are a number of comparisons between off-season events in both this thread and others. My personal opinion is that this doesn't seem to be a particularly useful thing to do. Let's think "big picture" here, practice our graciousness, and remember that all teams holding off-season events should be considered partners and not competitors. And what I mean is that off-season event organizers are all attempting to bring the core values of FIRST to a larger community and instill a sense of excitement for science and technology. How we accomplish this may be different, but rich diversity in approach can be good while we all share a common vision. |
Re: 2006 Monty Madness - Spread the Word!!!
Thank you team 1403 for hosting an awesome event, it was very well run.
Also thanks 25 and 371 for helping us secure our first 06 win, i had a great time driving with your team. |
Re: 2006 Monty Madness - Spread the Word!!!
Thank you to everyone who could make it out to this year's Monty Madness. It was great to see such a large turn out especially since this was a first year event. The competition was very tiring, but definitely worth it. We hope that we were successful in spreading the ideas of FIRST to the communities around us because that was actually one of the main goals of this off-season competition. Everything ran well(but a little delayed :p ) and it was great to see everyone so excited about all of the stuff we were selling :) .
Thank you to all of the volunteers who made it out to the competition. Without you guys, we would not have been able to put on the show. See you at Duel on the Delaware, Ramp Riot, and Brunswick Eruption.... ;) |
Re: 2006 Monty Madness - Spread the Word!!!
Thanks:
Team 1403 and David Kazan for letting me emcee this awesome event. I had so much fun and learn a lot from the experience and can't wait until next year. To all the volunteers for making this another great competition in the State of NJ. I got to meet Jay,Conor,Sara, and other fellow CD members (AWESOME) Overall it was an awesome event and hope to see it return next season. |

Re: 2006 Monty Madness - Spread the Word!!!
Monty Madness was a great event. David Kazan and his team did a fantastic job. There was a great group of volunteers and kudos to all.
Major kudos to those volunteers who had the hardest job of all and stayed for clean up. You all know who you are! You haven't actually experienced helping to run a FIRST event if you haven't participated in the rug roll up. ;) |
Re: 2006 Monty Madness - Spread the Word!!!
On behalf oh my team, 528, I want to give props to 25. Our alliance gave everything to try and stop you guys and couldn't do it. My team and I also agree that you guys, 25, were the hardest robot ever came up against. Gahhh! Those brakes of yours! :ahh: Anyways I just wanted to congratulate you and your alliance. We had a great time. Also want to thank to 303 and 1926, you guys were awesome alliance partners.

Re: 2006 Monty Madness - Spread the Word!!!
I want to add my compliments on the great day yesterday. Dave and his 1403 crew put on a great event and made it look easy. Everything was staged in a professional manner and I look forward to many more MMs to come in the future. Our team enjoyed training new drivers and mixing it up in the elims with many of our local friends.
Thanks and congrats to 1089 and 371 for being great partners. Of course I am partial to 1089, but I must say I've never seen a team rebuild a frame and drive wheels as fast as 371 in the Semis! It was quite a run. WC  |
Re: 2006 Monty Madness - Spread the Word!!!
hey congrats to all of monty for getting that off the ground it was awesome! lets hope you guys will be even better next year!

Re: 2006 Monty Madness - Spread the Word!!!
Just posted the awards on the www.montymadness.org website. There is even a link to a picture of the Finals Ladder so you can see the match-ups (special thanks to son Bob K. for extracting the picture from the video). Sorry about the delay. We'll try to get additional match info up later.

For those of you unable to attend, here is a photo of the field.
The venue was wonderful, as were the pits. The snack bar and food court were top notch and inexpensive. Just loved the candy bars. You guys went all out, we were happy to be there. Just wish we had switched our robot on for that last semi match... :o Don |
Re: 2006 Monty Madness - Spread the Word!!!
thanks 1403, for hosting this awesome event.
everyone did great, and....just like master dictator said... Quote:
25...thanks for a bunch of great matches. our alliance worked really hard, and there was no way we could have stopped you, save the "oops! did i spill water on THAT? was that important?" approach. and that would have been way uncool. it was kind of funny. teams came up to us..."hey guys, you were great! who was your mentor team?" "25" "....*double take* WHAT?!?! weren't you ranked above them?" "yeah..but they kicked our butts anyway." thanks to 1089 and 371, too. those were some great matches. |
Re: 2006 Monty Madness - Spread the Word!!!
To anyone that attending Monty:
If anyone would have a picture of me Emceeing the event, I would greatly appreciate having a copy of the picture. I would like to include it in the ERV finale video. Thanks again. |
