I stand corrected (partially - if and only if the motor can be removed from the fan housing without altering the motor itself [see above post] I have not yet looked closely enough at the kit fans to verify if this is possible, so I will give the benefit of the doubt for the moment) (I also give partial points to Jason Morrella, who pointed out that if you take the motor out of the non-KOP fan, and just stick the blades and shell on the robot, then it would be legal - after all, no one ever said that the fan actually had to do anything. Leave it to the English teacher to come up with that answer... :) ).
Anyway, to revise my point, if you want to use a non-kit fan (with a motor in it so it actually works, and without replacing the fan motor with one from the 2006 KOP) you may run afoul of the rules.
