We were making one that illuminated the entire pair of glasses with the correct color light, but it kind of fell through :)

This HUD is a fall back in case our automatic aiming fell through. The red lights (on right and left side) indicate that the driver needs to turn left or right. The green light indicates a clear shot and the yellow light tells the driver that the camera can't get a lock on the main light. I really like this guy since the lights do absolutely nothing to distract the driver while being perfectly visible. The coolest thing is that the LEDs are hooked up to cat5e it's super easy to connect and disconnect. Has a bit of a Borg look to it doesn't it. Resistance is futile! :D

Heh. We talked about that, and also looked into how the military does HUD. It was a little too expensive for us, so we looked into using a Lexan panel in front of the RIO, but it was considered too distracting. Our current control panel rises about 20 inches above the driver's shelf, and is tilted towards the RIO. It includes LED cluster lights (six LEDs packaged in a lamp base complete with rectifier and resistor) which light up to indicate ON/OFF status of the motors. Smaller, regulation LEDs indicate "ball in hopper," "ball in loader," and "system ready to fire, target acquired." I'd publish a picture, but I want to wait until Eric finishes the vinyl decals.

And yes, the 6-volt cluster LEDs are perfectly legal, and draw a lot more than 10 mA. If you ask, I'll tell you how we did it without violating OI rules, but I'm pretty sure you want to figure it out on your own.

Hey mechanicalbrain, nice to see your team is progressing well.
I hope the "Advanced Device Showase" workshop helped a bit this season.
Man, that's a cool headset!
This year we wont have a headset, but rather an LCD screen and a Speech module on the OI end of things.
Looks really cool!
