So, what did you name your baby?
We named ours Snood, since no matter at what point during build season
atleast one person was playing "snood" (the game), it's become a team addiction so someone said we should call him that =) so what's your bots name, and why? |
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
The Ellenator - after our coach Ellen Bacon. Last year we named it Hurricane Bacon after her. :) [2004 - The Yellowdart (strongbad) and 2003 - Thomas (the train)].

Re: So, what did you name your baby?
Our bot is proudly Silver Lightning, and it's inner-team codename is "GhettoBot06." Don't be confused, it's kind of orange-y.... ~_^
Silver Lightning goes with the theme we've developed for our team this year. We're, as you know, Team Mercury *points up at header to my post* and our logo has a lightning bolt through it. So, we merged our team colors (orange, black and silver) and themes (lightning bolt, mercury planet, mercury the god) and came up with a great solution. |
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
Our team has soo much trouble coming up with a team name. We can never agree on a name so we get stuck with ramtech. Me and my friend want to name the robot LOLA but everyone said no. :(. O well.
|
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
we named ours Jeremiah (no biblical reference). but a reference to the bullfrog named Jeremiah. out team motto is "be the frog, dont ever give up".
|
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
The best names for our robots come from other first teams. In 2000 a gentalman that is big on this web site (J.J) named our robot the cratle robber and the name stuck. This year a team saw our robot and named it the enforcer. Our team liked the name and it is sticking.
|
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
Our robots name is BOB. he has been bob for a really long time..

|
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
Our robots name is C-4
Our robot is mostly plastic and this is the 4th year of our team (CircuitRunners-4) |
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
CDXI.
|
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
Its not official, but I'm going to attempt to talk the team into naming ours E.M.O
Last weekend, we pretty much had to redesign half of the systems in it, the engineers were calling it Extreme Makeover: Robot Edition |
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
Buzz of course...after the astronaut Buzz Aldrin :)
|
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
Annie Oakley... or, simply, "Annie O"
If you have ever been to a competition with us, we always do the "OOOOOO" when our team number is announced, so picking the name of one of the best trick shooters with a last name starting in O just seemed fitting :) |
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
Pythagoras - since we have so many triangles in ours.
|
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
Our robot is named Lucky.
We went to a chinese buffet a couple weeks into the build, and my fortune cookie read, "Lucky is coming your way." |
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
I dont think we name our robot. i think that would be cool if we did though lol
-Courty- |
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
We named our robot Ball-istic :yikes:
|
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
After our wonderful build day yestarday, we considered unofficially calling our robot Murphy's Abortion. However, our mentors felt it was somewhat politically incorrect.
|
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
We have discussed three names:
Tank, because it is built like/is one Jaws, because it eats Poofballs and should be feared by all with lesser drive trains Holy Mackerel, because we had to trim so much out to make weight, and we still like the Jaws thing. |
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
862's 2006 robot is named Icarus. Ike for short.
|
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
Hoover.
|
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
We couldn't really come up with a name, so we're just calling ours Dawgma I. Not that imaginative, but it gets the point across nicely...

Re: So, what did you name your baby?
Our robot's name is BAMFR. I don't know why or who named her that (we did agree that the robot would be a 'she').
|
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
Quote:
We decided to name our robot Gemini (Great Engineering Minds Involved in New Innovations). We kind of have some sort of a space theme going so we went with that. |
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
84's bot is Chuck, as usual, but this year's he's 10! (AKA 'X'.) We think he's a 'Perfect X'! ;)
|
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
We had some issues with saving our information in the system, so our coach entered the name "Mary" as a test. Even after much pleading to call the robot "PHender" (pronounced "Fender") the coach likes the "Hail Mary" twist on the name "Mary". We'll see if it gets changed "officially". :yikes:
-Danny |
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
We name our robot Wazoo. We have balls coming out of our Wazoo!
![]() |
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
Last year our robot was names Meshach, after Meshach Browning who helped with the foundation of our team's (1629) county.
The new idea was to call it Meshach 2.0 -- Now the name is Me-Shaq. I have no idea how this came about :p |
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
Our Robot's Name Is "Sparky 2.0 :The Harvester" I will be posting pictures of our finished robot soon.
|
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
Swiss Miss........because of the 'swiss cheese styling'.
As was said in the shop last Monday night....."How did we get 17 lbs overweight?" But we got to the end, and it works, or at least it did last night at 8:30. Its in the crate now and on its way to drayage. The team did a great job shedding the 17 lbs of weight without sacrificing performance. The final weight came in at 119.7 lbs. :) |
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
Our team decided to name our bot LEW...
as to what it means...i guess it depends on who asks. If it's someone on the team or something, it's short for Lewinski. If the school board asks, it stands for Leominster Education Workshop. :-P |
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
Double Vision, because we have dual shooters and dual ball collectors :)
|
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
The name of N.E.W. Apple Corps' robot has been Tobor as far back as I can remember. Not sure if it's always been named as such, but it's been named that for a while. This year was supposed to be Tobor IX, but since this is the 10th year our team has been in FIRST, we decided to skip a number and go straight to Tobor X.
|
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
We had a few nominees for names
Scorpio - Because our launcher looks like a scorpion tail Glass Prison - I put it out there as a joke cause it's the name of an awesome Dream Theater song. People liked the name anyway. The Refridgonator - The gathering system is tall and the front is flat like a refridgerator We voted and came out with Scorpio. |
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
We named our robot "Oh Geeze". (Said like oh jeez) Because of the fact that that was mostly what we said during the past 6 weeks.
|
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
The mouse mobile!
'cause it looks oddly mouse-like |
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
I'm not sure what everyone else on the team is calling it, but I'm going with "Triple Threat." This is some sort of in-team joke going back to our initial strategy discussions where Greg presented his idea of what our robot should do, and said it should have the Triple Threat, that is we should be able to 1) score in the low goals, 2) score in the 3 point goal, and 3) do the fake out - go for the 1 point goal, then go for the three point goal. In reality, the Bobcat 2006 (another perfectly acceptable name) is more of a quadruple-threat.
|
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
Our team name is M'Aiken Magic
And have added a Dragon mascot to accompany our Wizard mascot So our robot is: Poof the Magic Dragon. |
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
Ours it called Spyro cause we have a dragon face drawn onto the mesh
(http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...ighlight=spyro) |
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
We had a "Name the Robot" contest and the winning name was "TheraBot" since our high school is called Therrell, but we shortened it to T-Bot. I wanted to name it Christine after the car in that Stephen King movie since it used to always take off when it was turned on.

Re: So, what did you name your baby?

This year's robot was officially named Top Gun about a day after kickoff. Just this weekend some of the students have been calling it Maverick, so both names are going to appear on decals on the 'bot. We are using a modified version of the Navy's Top Gun school logo on our shirts, hats, buttons, banners, and literature. Look for aviator sunglasses on our drive team. We were going to order aviator safety glasses but economic good sense stepped in at the last minute. |
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
Tommy the Pinball Wizard.

Re: So, what did you name your baby?
We discussed a lot, but ended on SARTANYAC: Beta Project. We began with SARTANYAC last year, when in a brainstorming session I made up a long and obnoxious acronym standing for the Super Awesome Robot That Always Needs Your Aluminum Cans (an aluminum can drive is our main fundraiser). We then tacked a 3000 on the end to make it sounds kind of cheesy and funny, finishing last year with SARTANYAC 3000. This year, we decided we wanted to continue with SARTANYAC, but didn't know where it should logically go. SARTANYAC 2 was less than 3000, SARTANYAC 4000 doesn't stand out, SARTANYAC 4 sounds like its our fourth robot, etc. Then we decided to follow it with text, as opposed to numbers. We, in the end, decided on SARTANYAC: Beta Project, with the Beta portion signifying that it was our second robot. I think we're going to stick with SARTANYAC in the future, and already have starting thinking up names for next year's bot.
I also will add we had joked about naming our robot Chuck Norris during the build season. I don't think FIRST would allow it, but we figured with our spinning capabilities we could hinge a boot that would swing out when spinning, thereby initiating a "roundhouse kick". We found it funny at least. |
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
well we're the robodevils and our robots looks like an ice cube, so we named it the devils' ice cube.
our practice bot is named the devils reject, cuz it has all the reject parts and messups. |
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
We sadly don't know what are robot is going to be named, but we've had thoughts of magic fridge, and black plauge because the last week of build almost all of our mentors got sick.
|
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
I think we're going with "The Shoplifter" it's not official yet, but thats what we want.
|

Re: So, what did you name your baby?
We named ours "Pedro." It's probably after a popular joke T-shirt, "Vote for Pedro" that came out shortly after Pedro Martinez and the rest of the Boston Red Sox won the World Series in 2005. But it's most likely from the "Vote for Pedro" shirt (probably an American Eagle shirt).

Re: So, what did you name your baby?
Team 4's robot is "Fawkes" as in fawkes the phoenix, our logo.
|
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
I'd recently taken to calling Team X-Bot's latest robot 'Hex' since it rhymed with X and last year's robot was named X5, leading me to assume that Hex was the team's sixth robot. Last night, I learned that's not the case at all and 488 took a year off in 2002. Oops. This is only our fifth.
Hex is in TIMS and everyone calls it that anyway, so Hex it is. |
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
Katapult - because everything in Kokomo that is normally spelled with a 'C' is spelled with a 'K'. This is actually the second robot named Katapult, the first being the '94 robot.
|
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
We named ours Dory, since one of our team parents kept telling our team's moderator to "keep swimming" (from Finding Nemo) since she was nervous of whether or not we'd pull it off, and we did, finally.
Some others wanted to name it Senor StonDark. |
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
Our robot was, as soon as the main drive train was complete, ceremoniously christened "Not So Cattywampus VII".
We poured a can of Mountain Dew on the top left corner and called it good. |
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
This year ours is named
Miss Daisy V You know we name it miss daisy every year, this would be our 5th although it is our seventh robot(the first two years we had some other names) |
Re: So, what did you name your baby?

"What's happening! They're getting all their air back!" "Oh, my God. It's MegaMaid. She's gone from suck to blow!" The sad part is that I have entire parts of that movie comitteed to memory... May the Schwartz be with all of you and your robots! :D |
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
110 to Ground only because our team is called "The Short Circuts" and it really is like a short circut for us because of all the problems that we faced

Re: So, what did you name your baby?
Ours is called X-O X-Cat.
Our team theme this year is K.I.S.S. I.T.! (Keep It Super Simple In Technology) and to tie the robot name with the theme and to team spirit we named the bot X-O X-Cat ![]() |
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
We named ours "Firefly".
|
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
"TerMOEnator"
Our practice robot is named "MOEjo". |
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
Tommy, The Pinball Wizard. Not only does it shoot balls and has a flipper for a trigger, it has tie ins to our main mentor/sponsor and another mentor. However, he's not very wizardly at the moment. The team seemed to think you could tune all the software and test the autonomous in two hours.

Team 135 has named our robot "Adrian von Bobots"

For some reason we have always named our robot the Black Knight (I,II,III, ect.), so technically we are the Black Knight VI, but we call White Lightning or Alabama Shine as it looks like a still. :D Our Principal and Superintendent didn't appreciate our humor. :( |
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
Our team has a working name that is used among team members, but we wouldn't want it announced in the arena :ahh: . Our robot's public name is Clyde, which refers to both our ball harvester (PacMan reference) and our basketball shooter (Clyde Frazier) .
|
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
There's a couple ideas floating around the team...
One: A big long acronym that no one knows what it means... IDKWTM (I dont know what this means) for example Two: BJ Bumpers... I like this one, it's cute :P Three: Various screen names, Daru, Vadus, etc... Others... PSP... after the PSP comercial... because it's like cheese you can take with you... At least it is now, after "weight reduction" day... we had to cut 25 pounds ;-; |
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
Karen after one of our mentors, we name the robots after a mentor that isn't affiliated with the school every year....
|
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
1501:The Scorpion!!! :D :D :D
It is called that because IT LOOKS LIKE A SCORPION!!! |
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
"Tubby". You get one guess why.
|
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
We decided to call ours "The Red Dragon" again.
|
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
"Katapult" the name is very fitting, if you ask me.
|
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
Continuing with the RoboDox theme...
2006 - The Dermatologist - "A little WD-40 should clear that up..." 2005 - The Psychologist - "Its all in your mind/programming." 2004 - The Dentist - "Now this won't hurt a bit..." 2003 - The Therapist - "So do you want to talk about it?" 2002 - The Surgeon, MD 2001 - The D.O.C.T.O.R. (Drastically Over-Complicated Team Operated Robot) -Mr. Van Coach, Team 599 The RoboDox |
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
We don't name our robot, because after all the hassles it puts us through, any name we come up with would be bitter and derisive...
|
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
Our robot is named either ROFLBOT or Materilas. Materilas was a typo on one of our sponsorship packages, and we just found it a funny word. ^_^!
and ROFL... well, here's the official name writeups, lol. Rofl Bot. Nerds will be nerds, geeks will be geeks, and hopefully all of you know the meaning of rofl. For those who don't use the Internet, it's a nice little acronym for "rolling on (the) floor laughing," best used nowadays as an over-exaggeration to make fun of really bad Net lingo. In this case, we have the hilarity of "rofl," the classic suffix "bot," and the name even plays on a fun little phrase: "rofl buttz." Pronounce it "roffle bot," kinda like a waffle. Nerds unite! Materilas. Some of you may remember this one from earlier in the year. The sponsor package went out and included a graph about costs and things, which Andrew Neilson, previous webmaster, pointed out to contain, in big letters, the spelling error of "materials" to "materilas." Well, we all had a good laugh at Amanda's expense. Much like last year, this is another bizarre inside joke. It's pronounced like . . . mah-TEER-ah-liss. And it honours our PR Queen. |
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
Team 648's bot name is....
Alice... We felt it a very fitting tribute to Alice West, the wife of Neil West, who passed away last fall. d |
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
We named our robot Aimbot - due to it's ability to automatically detect and open fire on the goal.
|
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
Ours is named Robot Man Jan - don't ask.
|
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
Team 316's robot's name is SAM (Salem's Awesome Machine). It's been that since I joined.

Re: So, what did you name your baby?
"tusk", well, because... that's what it looks like lol. Its got two great big prongs of ball dropping on the front
|
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
we named ours "Juggs" or "Big Juggs" after the ball pitcher machine.... IMO the ball pitcher concept is overdone tho... .but building 2 robots and a 2nd year team doesnt leave much time for experimentation...
|
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
We dont have a robot name yet but we are leaning twords 'Black Magik' I hope :)
-Pavan |
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
Quote:
Ours is "Vektor" - its significance depends on how you stress the syllables. If you say Vektor then duh, it sounds like "vector", like the ones our camera and multiangle shooter use to put balls through the goal. If you say Vektor, it sounds like "victory". "To the vektor go the spoils." |
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
Bucketface?
|
Re: So, what did you name your baby?
This year we named our robot Zeus. Our team name is the circuit chargers and we're shooting so some how we got to throwing lightning bolts and voted Zeus over Thor. Our ball picking up mechanism is unofficialy refered to as Hermes, so I don't have to keep saying ball picker-uper.
