I also read Brandon's lists. I agree and diasagree but for the most part I'm the same way. My first love in music is MOBY! I bow down to him, he is a god. I love techno and electronic music. I also listen to a lot of European music, Falco,Nena, and I love the Venga Boys (how can you not like them Brandon?). I listen to under ground music too, most of it no one's heard of unless they've been to the same events that I go to (I go to raves but donot partake in all of the activities). I also listen to rock, metal, and other assortments of music. NO BOYBANDS, OR ANYTHING LINKING TO THEM, NOT EVEN THE DIPPY CHICKS WHO i HAVE GIVEN NAMES THAT CANOT BE REAPEATED ON THIS FORUM. I'm not real big on country or rap.

mike o'leary 31-07-2001 21:25

moby is one of the coolest guys around. i personally dont love all or even most of his music, but i think he awesome cuz he does it all so much for the music and stuff. his attitude about it.

EddieMcD 31-07-2001 21:51

Maybe I should type out The High Priest's Playlist here.

I am also tempted to sing a few lines of one of the boy bands just to rattle some nerves. Where's Hymnson when I need him?

mike o'leary 31-07-2001 21:53

ummmm eddie...hymson likes rap

EddieMcD 31-07-2001 22:14

I know, but remember when he tried to form a FIRST boy band?

Carolyn Duncan 31-07-2001 22:43

Speaking of a FIRST band... what ever happend to the idea you were working on Mike?

mike o'leary 31-07-2001 22:53

its summer...i havent seen many of hte people involved for a while...its still in the works though.
and his first boy band was just done to piss people off

Alright, let's just split things up into categories:

SKA - great stuff, until bands go mainstream

Punk - same as SKA

Techno - Can't get enough of the stuff. Sound great with subwoofers. While it has a very basic musical structure that for the most part repeats itself every 4 measures, I think you can admire this simplicity. Also trains people's ears to listen to multiple parts of a song - the reason why a lot of people don't like Classical.

Rock - Depends on if its real rock or not. Creed, Aerosmith, anything that has a musical backing is good in my book.

Christian - Sorry folks, just not my style

Jazz/Blues - Love it. Listen to Armstrong all the time, along with the other greats

Latin - Pretty good stuff, but slim in my collection

Rap - I have some, and enjoy it, but I don't consider it to be the best stuff on earth.

Classical - Wonderful, although I think that some people give it too much praise. Sorry folks, its not the epidomy of music that you wish it was.

Country - No. Plain and simple. I don't care how big your truck is.

Boy bands/Pop music - Scum of the earth. Definition of bandwagoning mentality. People will think you're cool if you listen to it. Real people will think you're mindless. It really makes me sad to see just how popular these people are. Can't blame the one Backstreet Boy who went into rehab though. If I were one of them, I'd drink heavily too! (sorry, had to put that in there...)

Swing - good stuff. Lots of fun to dance and to listen to.

80's - Really varies. Depends on my mood. Fun at times, flat out annoying at others.

Well, I think that about does it. Sorry for the long post, but as you can see, I have some pretty strong feelings towards music. I don't think that I left out any category.

~Tom~, who would have to have his CDs pryed out of his cold dead fingers if someone wanted them. ;)

I enjoy almost all types of music. The one exception would have to be country, there just something about it I dont like. My favorite types of music are trance, progressive house, and hip hop. Although, in todays world it is hard to say that you enjoy one type of music because we are always being exposed to new types, that pique our interests.

I am a rock girl at heart... Third Eye Blind is my favorite, with Blink coming in a close second... now putting them in the same catagory isn't really fair, but for the sake of the forum I will. Metallica's old stuff is good, and Dave Matthews and Ben Harper are GREAT for the relaxing or just fun songs. And if anyone is into the Dave/Pearl Jam stuff, check out Guster... they are good too... Same with Phish. And for Dave-O... OAR is good too! I cannot stand boy bands/Britney stuff... it's not music... if it were actually performed by them then I would understand, but I know a guy who works at Deer Creek (concert venue) and he said that the nsync/britney spears concert was the easiest thing he has ever worked because all he had to do was change tapes before every song.. now tell me they don't lipsync.

That reminded me of some good bands my buddies down in Miami got me into. Phish...hands down awesome band. There's just no arguing that one! Also love moe. the jazzy/rock/don't-know-quite-what-to-call-it-style band originally from Buffalo. Dave's cool...getting more into his music lately.

Though it appears I'm the only country chick floating around the forums...where are my boys in South Windsor when I need them?? ;)

BTW: With the exception of techno, I tend to have issues with "music" that has no real instruments in it. Partially why I do not consider rap music. And 99.9% of the time, rap tends to harbor offensive lyrics - another problem I have with it. But for those of you (like Mike) that enjoy rap...power to you. I just ask when around me, please bring headphones :p

mike o'leary 01-08-2001 20:42

dont worry...i dont own a single rap cd...well ok maybe one of 2, but theyre of the alt-rap variety...ratm and such. (hed) pe too. otherwise...i dont go around listening to jamn 94.5 or anything, but if raps playing ill listen to it. basically if anythings playing ill listen to it, if its music. hence my absolute boycot of boybands

CT, you got me into that guster. i really like it. Last time i tried to get you to listen to OAR you thought it was stupid. I would reall recomend OAR. they're not very well known. it's really relaxing. The best song that they have is called: The crazy game of poker. if anyone would be interrested

Carolyn Duncan 02-08-2001 16:32

I don't know if this is popular anywhere else but in Williamsburg we listened to Eek a Mouse. Not really anything you sit downand try to comprehend. It's just a big guy making weird sounds by saying strange words and music playing. It's really funny, all you can do laugh at it.
