SHIP DAY IS HERE!!! Did you finish???

Ok, so our robot is now in a HUGE box being sent down to Las Vegas... and we still have alot of work to do when we get there. Oh and we have never actually run our robot. :(

Here's whats left for us to do:
1. Wire the whole thing(motors, sensors, camera)
2. Fix our catapult (yes we are using a catapult and it works awsome!!! :D except for the fact that when we mounted our camera in the wrong spot and it gets in the way and won't load.)
3. Program it(we do have part of it done, but not even close to all of it.)
4. Mount sides on it and place stickers.
5. Fix Wheels (Maybe)
6. Probubly some other things that I'm too tired to remember right now.

So I was just wondering if we are the only team that is in this situation. Let me know.

PS here is a picture of our robot when we shipped it today:

Let me know and also, comment on our robot if you want.

We got our's done all it needs is some fine tuning.

How much does it weigh?

Re: SHIP DAY IS HERE!!! Did you finish???

we aren't quite finished

We need to mount a protective plate for the shooter, mount a place for the flag, clean up the wiring, and get it all underweight

Re: SHIP DAY IS HERE!!! Did you finish???

NO WE DIDN'T

We are a rookie team and we are going crazy. Our ball catcher broke right before we put into the crate to be shipped. Our air defense system fell apart at the last second and we are all ready to kill each other....it is like a bad nightmare for all of us....

But since we are rookies, I guess that it is to be expected....who knows, hopefully we will pull it together

Get final mass
Wire it.
Sides and stickers
Vacuum foot traction material and local gravity amp(s)
Dial software PID's and timing. Set auto mode launch speeds.

First version, sucks in great and backfeeds pretty well, is underweight, can compete.

Revision/tuneup two- fix feed so it reliably feeds the shooter, doesn't jam in the hopper.

I hate robots.;)

mechanically: done.
electrically: done
programmingly: well... is it ever really done?

Lol yep... we finished like... 4 days ago.. and weighed it yesterday... ...

LOL 95 pounds without batteries!!! and we thought we were over weight!! HAHHAHAHAHAHAH

Re: SHIP DAY IS HERE!!! Did you finish???

We are done. We just need more practice on it. Our Robot was done, but after the DC Scrimmage, we modified some stuff and tested it again.
Even one hour before the shipping time, we ran our final tests on the shooter and it worked perfectly. We do got some programming issues, but i guess first day of competition will be more than enough to fix minor problems.

Re: SHIP DAY IS HERE!!! Did you finish???

We are done, but as a precaution we shipped the bot with an engineer so he can fine tune it. He has plenty of Snicker bars and juice. *wonders, did we put air holes in the box. Oh well* :)
Bot weighs 118 pounds.

We'll be at Pittsburgh with you guys. Look us up if you want some help, we'll try to help if you want it. Team 1629.

We're basically done. As done as we could have been, anyway.

Re: SHIP DAY IS HERE!!! Did you finish???

Megamaid is now two pounds underweight (asuming they use the same scale), thanks to the almighty Rotex punch.

Autonomous was never tested, and there are some minor issues with ball cloggage and a slightly flimsey gate. We can however spew a perfect column 2 balls wide at a fairly high rolling speed and get on the ramp, so I guess we are mostly done.

Re: SHIP DAY IS HERE!!! Did you finish???

We are darn near close...still has some debugging left, mechanically and electrically it seems sound.

Re: SHIP DAY IS HERE!!! Did you finish???

We're pretty much done. We still have to construct our hopper and get our camera controling our bot. Other than that we have the base, shooter, wiring, etc. done.

JamesBrown 21-02-2006 22:43

Re: SHIP DAY IS HERE!!! Did you finish???

we might be a pound or 2 over but we still have plenty that we can remove. It could be used out of the crate but could be tuned a bit to make it perfect.

Programming wise driver control is done and auto aim works. Autonomous wise we can put it where we want it and it will shoot accuratly we just need the drive code added so it can drive to where we want it to be.

Re: SHIP DAY IS HERE!!! Did you finish???

Yeah.....good sotries, now look at this one..:

Sunday, robot is being finished, looking evil and better than any other that we've seen so far, pretty cocky, I know, until it was time to weight it :ahh: ........44 punds over-weigh!!!!!What are we going to do  We had to take off the shooter and had a set up robot that has no use of the area that the shooter used to take up...o yeah, and our ball collector is still jaming! I said to change the motor from a fisher-price to a CIM since it's pushing five balls up...My mentor said: Are you out of your mind??? :ahh:
That's our story, we felt the worst feeling taking all the welding parts off, now we weigh 108 without the addins that im thinking about right now.

Don't lose hope - the first day of your regional is technically a practice day but many use it as a bonus build day. Also there will be plenty of other teams there that I'm sure will be willing to lend a hand.

Our bot just needs a little camera-work and the reattachment of chain tensioners; luckily things came together and we only had to stay up until 2 last night

Don't get too frustrated, in our rookie season last year, we got to our regional (only had the funding to go to one), and had to redesign the arm on our robot, and spent the vast majority of thursday working on it.

We ended up getting it redesigned and put together and working, and won the Rookie All-Star award for the regional and won our way to Nationals.

Don't give up, you've still got plenty of time to fix and/or modify it :)

Re: SHIP DAY IS HERE!!! Did you finish???

Our robot was 115 lbs few days ago... I don't know about now since we added some stuff. We all guessed the final weight of the robot and wrote it down on a whiteboard and my guess is... 119.0 lbs! No one will know if the robot is done or not until we open the crate at the competition because... who knows? Stuff might come off on the way! Last year's crate had two holes because the thing that carries this stuff kinda missed.

Ok, sounds like we arn't the only team in this situation. It will be a mad scramble to finish it though at Regionals in Las Vegas. And plus I really want to be able to at least get one or two practice rounds in so i know how this thing drives

Daniel Brim 22-02-2006 01:06

Re: SHIP DAY IS HERE!!! Did you finish???

Nope!

Still need to:
Construct shooter shield
Fire shooter/change tread as necessary
Spring load pinch point
Drive robot
Spring load / test feeder from hopper to shooter channel
Attach hopper net
Attach cover
Fix back bumper
Gain weight as necessary.

Nuttyman54 22-02-2006 02:27

Re: SHIP DAY IS HERE!!! Did you finish???

Mechanical: not where we wnated it (scrapped the launcher, shifting issues), but can compete effectively
Programmming: pretty good, but no auto mode

We worked out butts off last night/this morning, but we got it working quite well, and we're happy with the effort. it's most definitely the prettiest robot we've ever built.

King Bob 22-02-2006 13:42

Re: SHIP DAY IS HERE!!! Did you finish???

Our biggest problem is probably weight because there arent many places to tke weight off. We also need to finish the programming and getting the camera and autonomous to work. The last problems are making sure we will be able to turn and not run out of battery in a match.

Just get your team to your regional and there will be a lot of help available! At one of our regionals a robot was destroyed in shipping and everyone there pitched in and got the team up and going. Our team always brings all of our spare parts from the kit and anything else we can pack and are happy to help other teams if the need arises. Good Luck!!

Steve S. 22-02-2006 15:01

Re: SHIP DAY IS HERE!!! Did you finish???

yay, we're done. except for programming an autonomous mode.

as for things not on the bot,
1) make spare parts
2)Strategize
3)Get a driver (using last years robot)
and for me:
4) Try not to kill anyone :D

Daniel Morse 22-02-2006 17:38

Re: SHIP DAY IS HERE!!! Did you finish???

Done completely (amazingly), even the autonomous worked before we left. That won't last once we get to comp, something will go wrong. Now to wait...

Re: SHIP DAY IS HERE!!! Did you finish???

we are pretty far behind in electronics becasue a few miss haps in shipping

a problem occured with the shippment of our gold fuse blocks. We recieved a call the day they where supposed to arrive that we wernt getting them.

Few other companies did the same but we where able to resolve them within a day or too. Hopefully they will be in soon!

Oumonkey 22-02-2006 22:25

Re: SHIP DAY IS HERE!!! Did you finish???

Well, we were a bit over weight....192 :P then we got it down to 148, so we had to ditch our conveyor to a human loader thing. We still have wiring, and I still have to make an auto mode :( dead reckoning YA!!! So the mentors messed with it all Tuesday to fix it, while we were in school, none of us got to use it. But the camera wasn't put in the crate, will we still be able to use it? I hope so, without it we won't have to much of an auto mode.
I still can't believe we were 192 pounds... We were so far underweight before, I guess it didn't cross anyones mind.

dutta 22-02-2006 22:34

Re: SHIP DAY IS HERE!!! Did you finish???

we fixed just about all of our mechanical issues before shipping, though you just know we'll find some new ones to keep busy with. Programming is behind, though mainly because there was no bot to work with for too long. Aside from that, there are just some panels that need for be attached on game day, and we're good to go (you know, maybe)

Wang Tang 23-02-2006 10:45

Re: SHIP DAY IS HERE!!! Did you finish???

Well we actually got done but we are a little suprised with all the tall robots and all the EXTREMELY OVERWEIGHT robots we felt stupid when we were 12 pounds overweight a week before ship no offense but how can you let your robot become 192 pounds when the limit is 120

discuss...

Oumonkey 23-02-2006 18:34

Re: SHIP DAY IS HERE!!! Did you finish???

Umm....Don't ask :P I don't even know, I am the programmer and second in command in Electronics. I thought they had put some thought into it, but oh well what will ya do. I just have to merge the camera code and driving code together, YAY what fun!

Reyner 23-02-2006 22:26

Technically, we finished, but we shipped 2 mechanisms and need to test which works better.

we actually finished our robot this year before shipping

everyone came in for ship day and we just practiced for like 5 hours then after our shipping problems finally got it out and took a recess then ate cake

Re: SHIP DAY IS HERE!!! Did you finish???

Today was intense. We we're 99% done this morning. Then that number decreased after I accidentally crashed the robot :ahh: (oops) and nobody was at the 'kill' switch. We ended bending our arm. After fixing it and adding extra reinforcement, we realized we were over 80". 2 hours later, we were done.

AndyB 19-02-2008 00:22

Re: SHIP DAY IS HERE!!! Did you finish???

All that needs to be done is to add stickers... but I suppose that gives us something to do at the regional...

We finished on Tuesday or Wednesday and our drivers got to practice on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Stuart 19-02-2008 01:48

Re: SHIP DAY IS HERE!!! Did you finish???

did we Finish? . . well close enough . . I will say there are some things in the crate that are unattached to the robot . . and may be reattached/ reconfigured come the Thursday of competition. . and there is alot of autonomous( no not hybrid . . we couldn't figure out a legal way of RELIABLY communicating with the robot) testing that needs to be done . . as well as some configuring for red balls . . we only had . . well never mind that. bottom line we have a VERY good robot that we are proud of . . and were also looking forward to a VERY long Thursday

Re: SHIP DAY IS HERE!!! Did you finish???

Anyone else notice that this thread was brought back from 2006? I'm betting those poll results are a little off for this year.

Otherwise, 973, finished and practiced with, for once.

Otaku 19-02-2008 02:06

Re: SHIP DAY IS HERE!!! Did you finish???

I know we were like 95% two days ago so it should be done now, I guess I'll see tomorrow before we crate it (I've not been around the past tow days so I've no idea)

laultima 19-02-2008 02:14

Re: SHIP DAY IS HERE!!! Did you finish???

For the past two days we've been "Don't worry, it will be done in half an hour". Solenoids are giving us a run, as well as a slew of bad PWMs. And part of our linear bearing for our elevator snapped off while testing today, so we got to play with that, too. Well be up early in the morning tomorrow doing last minute adjustments before we ship at noon.

Oh ya, and were 12 pounds over weight. :D

cjtenny 19-02-2008 02:19

Re: SHIP DAY IS HERE!!! Did you finish???

Posting from the shop.... No.

Still working on the very unique ball grabber of ours. Elevator & everthing else have been done a while, though. Stubborn people won't give up... And more importantly, we've had no practice -- driving or anything.... sigh...

This blows.

dtengineering 19-02-2008 02:22

Re: SHIP DAY IS HERE!!! Did you finish???

Well, LAST year's robot now counts as officially finished. It's job as "the competition robot" has now been passed on. While we are pleased with what went into the box, with two regionals ahead of us I expect significant improvements, especially in auto mode.

Walrus Pig is packed and ready to rip, Just need a little more stick time and i think this year is gonna be fun!!!!!:D

Re: SHIP DAY IS HERE!!! Did you finish???

The only thing left for us to do is replace our belts and pulleys system with chains and sprockets. Which we can do in less than three hours on the practice day of our first regional.

DarkFlame145 19-02-2008 11:49

Re: SHIP DAY IS HERE!!! Did you finish???

Mec: tested, broke some things, fixed them. So for now it's done, but who knows what will break next

Controls: Done, last thing i knew was wrong is that we had a leaky festo. But that is an easy fix (replace it).

Code: It drives, lifts, and all the other telly operated things, but auto is an unknown to me.

Alalea 19-02-2008 11:52

Re: SHIP DAY IS HERE!!! Did you finish???

1688 is done! We sent it out a bit underweight, but we did a lot of repairs yesterday AND we adjusted part of it so it works better!
