Anytime's a good time

You know you're a firstaholic when you notice the date and time and realize that they are the numbers of FIRST teams.

What time is it? Metal in Motion

What day is my book report due? Alpha Omega

~random thoughts on a rainy afternoon~

Keith Chester 20-05-2002 19:01

Yeah, whenever I look at speed limits or numbers on commercial products I sometimes remember the teams that go behind them.
Sheesh. My pyschiatrist is going to have a field day with this one. ;-)

Rob Colatutto 20-05-2002 19:03

lol, i always do that with page numbers and change when i buy things

Keith Chester 20-05-2002 19:05

That's it. We're all doomed.
Better create a support group now...

Krystine T. 20-05-2002 19:30

Yeah.. its pritty bad when you hear a team # os see something that has nothing to do with FIRST
I Agree we need a F.A.A (first aholics anonymous):)

Suike 20-05-2002 20:14

Yea I do that as well. My friends will be like, "What time is it?" and I'll say, "It's 3:12." and then we all laugh and everyone else looks at us funny. I love FIRST! :)

srawls 20-05-2002 20:47

yay, i'm not alone! :D yeah, i do that to everything. when i'm walking home from school i pass by house numbers 116 (herndon team), 118 (robonauts), and a few others. when we're in math espicially, i hear numbers and i think robots. it's only going to get worse with the withdrawal of the offseason. at least we're thinking about going to an off-season comp this summer, but that might just make it worse :)

Stephen

Keith Chester 20-05-2002 21:03

And here I was, wondering what they meant when they said this program was addictive....

Srawls, where in the US are you? We're hosting a competition and only 5 teams have signed up.... we'd be glad to have ya.

Rob Colatutto 20-05-2002 21:04

where are you hosting a competition?

Keith Chester 20-05-2002 21:07

right here in good old North Brunswick New Jersey

srawls 20-05-2002 21:08

our team is down in VA. new jersey isn't that far away i guess, i'll just have to rally up support in our team. right now we're thinking about going to one in south carolina, but that's by no means official or final

Stephen

Rob Colatutto 20-05-2002 21:09

woah....nice, my teams from long island, when are you having the competition?

Abi 20-05-2002 21:09

YAY I'm not alone!

During GLR, I tried to get our bus driver to add a 0 the the end of our bus number, 47, in support of our team. So yeah I ride bus Chief Delphi.

Keith Chester 20-05-2002 21:12

lol abi. at least you're riding them!

*pouts* 783 Isn't a time....Not unless you clock is kinda broken.

Now, for no particular reason, here is a story:

When NASA first started sending up astronauts, they quickly discovered that ballpoint pens would not work in zero gravity. To combat the problem, NASA scientists spent a decade and $12 Billion to develop a pen that writes in zero gravity, upside down, underwater, on almost any surface including glass and at temperatures ranging from below freezing to 300C.

The Russians used a pencil.

hehehe :D

Amy Beth 21-05-2002 00:34

sheesh, y'all are chief delphi addicts. I post one simple musing about how addicted i am to FIRSt and i get more than 15 replies within seven hours

D.Stephenson 21-05-2002 06:38

at least i now know i'm not alone

one of the buses at my school has the number 871 which is my teams number, the last night for math hw i had to do pages 270 and 271(deer park and Bayshore):)

Keith Chester 21-05-2002 15:09

sheesh, not my fault i have no life.

srawls 21-05-2002 15:13

well you asked for it. btw, you certainly won't be the consolor in the FAA amy beth. :)

Stephen

Krystine T. 22-05-2002 18:30

so then who will be the counsler of the FAA?[color=darkblue]

asher 23-05-2002 03:39

i see 31 everywhere, its creepy, i walked into american eagle one day and you know how they have those shirts and hats with just random numbers on them? well they had hats with 31 on them IN OUR TEAM COLORS, needless to say i bought them all and then drove to the 2 other stores in town and bought basically every one in town, ahh the memories

Katie Reynolds 23-05-2002 21:48

Man, I was at Fazzoli's with another team member today and my change was $0.93 and I looked at her and said "Good number, huh?" I went to bed last night/this morning and the time was 1:11 - I immediately think "Wildstang!" I was reading today and didn't have a bookmark. Looked at the page number which was 45 and thought "Technokats!" Someone mentioned 'the feds' in math today (talking about something other than FIRST, of course) and I thought to myself "201!" ... so what was that about FAA? ;)

- Katie :D

Clark Gilbert 23-05-2002 22:02

Team Numbers.....

Getting off course a little more....

Since we started talking about team numbers, my friends and i (normally 2 or 3 from Technokats) go out to eat lunch every day during school....and when we go to Burger King or Arby's or something we always look at out "order numbers" and see what team it is.....

My favorite time is 0:45 in army time :D

srawls 24-05-2002 20:43

today i think i reached a new low. i was visiting my grandmother at the hospital (she just had surgery, and is now going through therapy), and i saw her room number was 316. the first thing i thought of was the team 316 ... i remembered them specifically because they fell over at the start of a match like we did. anyway, i guess i should be a charter member of the FAA :)

My favorite time is then 8:85, which would turn out to be 9:25 then, right? Do I have to like team 925 now??? ;-0

Oh well, long live all FAH's!

So long, Phil

Jeff Waegelin 26-05-2002 21:11

I'm kinda partial to 2:01, myself. At one point, I had my alarm set for then, but I decided that it was annoying to have it go off during 6th hour every day. That lasted a whole two days, I think.

Best... Thread... Ever.

For weeks before nationals, I kept seeing this semi trailer driving around town. It was number 71. I think that has some relevance.

Seriously, I just drove North and south across the country in the past six days. (Get your maps out - From Houston, through Texarcana, Little Rock and Memphis to Terre Haute, from Terre Haute through Madison to Waupaca, and then from Waupaca through Madison, St. Louis, Poplar Bluff, Little Rock, and Texarcana back to Houston.) That was over 40 hours of driving in the past six days.

Anyway - I was seeing team numbers everywhere. I would go for hours without noticing a mile marker, then I'd see #118. On every road! 71's, 45's, 47's, 111's, 116's, 121's, 469's. Every road sign had a face that went with it. Most had several. I am so very glad that I'm not the only one who this happens to.

The only other time something like this has happened to me was when a friend of mine in high school was convinced that the number 41 was out to get him. He'd wake up in the middle of the night, and it would be 3:41. It was the number the football coaches gave him on his jersey, he'd see the number everwhere.

And then I did.

And soon, you will.

On another note -

I also found Mountain Home, Arkansas (the home of #16, the Baxter Bomb Squad) on the map while eating at a Denny's just north of St. Louis. I tried to find a route that would take me through there, but I'd still be on the road if I'd gone that way. The Ozarks are beautiful, though - even at night (by the light of the silv'ry moon). I highly recommend visiting, but make sure you fill up your tank in St. Louis - they don't believe in 24 hour gas stations there.

Dont even get me started with the numbers thing!!

It is pretty sad now that you mention it though.... but yes that is why I am going to WPI.. where robotics rules the world :)

Yeah, but you have to come in the summer to really appreciate it... The lakes (Bull Shoals and Norfork) are great during the summer.

Rob Colatutto 24-02-2003 01:19

i have the best one.... we go to a restaurant after a mini-meet and the max occupancy is 263 people. how awesome is that
