Ramp Climbing Adventures
Bots going for the ramp should be a pretty exciting part of this year's competition...Lets see some pictures or videos!!
121 Ramp Adventures This was climbing at full speed!! Rob |
Re: Ramp Climbing Adventures
One of our ramping attempts looked a little like yours. :ahh: Teams beware, watch that back wall!! At the Peachtree Scrimmage most bots made it up the ramp but not down. Good luck.

Re: Ramp Climbing Adventures
What I said: "If the robot gets flipped onto its back side, use the gate to get you back on the ramp."
What our gate operator heard: "Use the gate on the ramp." http://web.mit.edu/scolton/www/ramp_512.wmv |
Re: Ramp Climbing Adventures
At Winter War Zone, when I ramped the robot (usually at a fairly high velocity), the force of the robot hitting the back wall was enough to shake the entire alliance station quite violently. In one of our earlier matches, zip ties actually fell off the field! :ahh:

Re: Ramp Climbing Adventures
The best part was when 1099 floored their bot at the top of the ramp right into rage. The bot was airborne for a few seconds which was pretty cool to see.

Re: Ramp Climbing Adventures
During our ramp climbing adventure, We almost took out the entire back wall of the ramp. Our driver decided to test the strength of the bot, and at the same time he tried to see if we had constructed a strong wall. It appears we did, although he snapped one of the supports holding it to the deck. Our robot went without damage.

Re: Ramp Climbing Adventures
We make it up if we go slowly with two spotters :P
When the not-normal driver was playing a round we fell onto our side when he didn't go up the ramp straight. Our program port on the RC doesn't work now XD We heard it was a defect, something about a bad solder joint, but if IFI decides it wasn't, then we need a new one.... -cry- |
Re: Ramp Climbing Adventures
we can make it up as well, and if we need to, we can push our way up... :yikes:
|
Re: Ramp Climbing Adventures
we can go up, and don't tip unless we're at a 45-50 degree angle...
|
Re: Ramp Climbing Adventures
We've built our robot to make sure we can go up the ramp without bottoming out. We don't have to go very fast but we slip off the ramp if we don't go fast enough, luckily we've incorporated brakes to make sure we don't climb back down the ramp if we're not totally on it.
We've posted pictures of the robot going up the ramp before. It was in the middle of the build season.. |

Here are some shots of the robot runnng up a practice ramp forwards and backwards. The robot was later tested the finished robot with the diamond plate ramp and it seemed to work just as well. For fun we also tipped our ramp forward by lifting the back end creating a 40 degree ramp and a 30 degree to area and tried to drive up that from a dead stall. Unfortunatly we didn't get any pictures of that one. Driving up backwards Driving up forwards |

Re: Ramp Climbing Adventures
i think that the robots that can make it up the ramp will make it to the final of the regionals/championship. what teams can make it up the ramp? what do you have that enables your robot to do the ramp?

Re: Ramp Climbing Adventures
Megamaid can now get up the ramp after a quick adjustment. We have to drive backwards, though, as we only have 2 drive wheels (plus two omniwheels in back). Coming back down is the hard part.

Re: Ramp Climbing Adventures
Can someone push us up? :p
|
Re: Ramp Climbing Adventures
We tried the ramp for the first time at the CO scrimmage and we fell on our side and took the side of the ramp with us. Oh yeah, our robot has to be driven backwards up the ramp because of our ball-collector.

Re: Ramp Climbing Adventures
maybe i am wrong. i guess with 30 degrees and very little friction to grab onto i figured not many teams would me able to do the ramp. i also thought about how 6 wheel drive robots probably would not be able to do it easily because you would create a teeter-totter. am i wrong with my predictions?

Re: Ramp Climbing Adventures
We originally planned on going up the ramp, but for some reason our chassis ended up being wider than long. So, we tip either way...
|
Re: Ramp Climbing Adventures
we can go up and down the ramp and even score three's from the ramp! and like Greg said we really shake the alliance platform, one time we were accidentally in high gear and smashed our way up. you should have seen the look on the driver in the middle station :p . it was good enough for the news

Re: Ramp Climbing Adventures
I dont have a pic or a vid, but our driver roughly got the bot up the ramp. We asked him to bring it down... and so he pulled back on the joy sticks.. and the bot didnt even touch the ramp, it hopped right of f the platform to the carpet. Talk about crazy!

Re: Ramp Climbing Adventures
The first time we tried to climb the ramp, our robot flew up the ramp, crashed THROUGH the rear wall on the ramp, and smashed into the back wall of our shop.
We spent the next thirty minutes picking all of the pieces. |
Re: Ramp Climbing Adventures
Our robot can go up the ramp forwards and backwards. Its the coming off that's hard! :(

Re: Ramp Climbing Adventures
Testing driving up the ramp was quite an adventure. Without modifying the bot at all we tried going up at various speeds.
Going up we wound up with half the bot sticking up in the air while the back of it was still on the ramp, then all the sudden the front would come slamming down making quite a racket but not damaging the bot in any way (not any way we noticed at least) We couldn't come back down at all (discounting one time in which my timing was perfect but I wasn't able to repeat it) for a while until we took every little bit of spare weight available and strapped metal blocks into the front of the bot. Coming down is noisy and looks ugly as heck, but it works now. If I can find any pictures or video I'll put them up. |
