That's Why I Said Disney and Not MTV

FIRST is WAY too smart for MTV to understand. It would just bore them. TLC or A&E(who did a FIRST special for the previous years competition with Terry Bradshaw, we have it on tape) would be a better fit.

I KNOW

AGREED, but u know i have no problem getting it in TLC. After-all, maybe they will get that chick from "TRADING PLACES" to do it!

BUT STILL, i still love MTV or MTV2. I think that Dire Straits put it best "I want my MTV!"

Dude, ROTFLMAO!!!!

in response to the Documentary Thing

I believe there are quite a few documentaries already in place for existing FIRST teams. I know at one point this year, Discovery Channel was doing a documentary on team 449. I havn't heard of it airing yet though. Also, things like the A&E documentary last were good publicity. I think the program itself is attracting enough documentaries on it's own without going out of its way. A TV movie would hit a whole new audience, the kind that doesn't watch documentaries.
I agree, with a TV Movie, some of the FIRST spirit may be cut out to fill in a cheesy plot. However, the initial allure to the program for a lot of people, sorry to say, is the robot aspect. I myself was inclined to join initially because of the robot aspect. And as long as people recognize the program and the 'cool robots', the movie will generate interest. I was only truly 'enlightened' about the objectives of FIRST after my first year on a team. Generating a pool of potential FIRSTies is step one in greatly expanding the program.

i can only see good coming from the production of this movie

sure there is going to be some inaccuracies........ but it will help make a FIRST a household term and hopefully when i mention it to someone their response wont be "huh?" anymore, but "oh i saw that on tv" i dont even care if its not a perfect explination..... everybody here knows its going to be a really dramatic film, and the underdog team will ultimately win something......... and there will be some high energy moments.... thats the type of stuff thats going to get people interested

im sure i cant speak for everyone on this, but most schools have no clue that they even have a robotics team.. and if they know it exists, they dont care, and all the awards are meaningless to them because they dont know what they mean, so it is hard for the team to get support (im just assuming many teams share this problem with us)... im sure a disney movie would bring much more attention to the teams

i dont care how they portray it. just get the word out about FIRST to get more teams and more sponsors. it may not accurately show what FIRST is really about, but it can't change what its really like... i'll be happy as long as the olsen twins dont appear in it

I have heard about this for a long time now. In the NY Times article, it said that it features Noah Wylie in a Inner City CA FIRST robotics team.

I am guessing it is going to be like the Pirate of Silicion Valley show he did a couple of years ago. That is the facts will be right, but it will probably fit one of those never give up plots in it, like the one w/ Keonve Reeves in that baseball movie.

Now I didn't see any Camera crew like it was professionally shooting something @ nationals. So either they did it in Southern Cal, or Silicon Valley, or they are going to make up their own set. If they make up their own set then they would not only pay to make it look like a regional, but would have to create about 30-40 dummy teams.

Now I am not sure where they are going to film this, but I would probably think it would be about half of the time in their building area and half of the time in the competition. Anyways, this will be a first attempt of any sort of movie for FIRST, its going to be interesting.

I was talking about this with my sister and we decided that because like all the movies you ssee on Disney or wonderful world of Disney are about Animals or are animated people that the FIRST movie is going to be aboout a team of Dogs or something

Firewolf 30-05-2002 16:42

cute guys, n girls.. yes... i mean, avarage people on tv?! gasp, who would have thought....
but i hope they dont do that whole 'good team loses to bad team in the beg., the good team beats the bad team in the end'
b/c that compleatly goes against FIRST.. i mean, r there really any 'bad' teams in FIRST, the kind that would throw a monkey wrench in another teams robot (lit.)? and Dean better not agree to that, b/c all he keeps saying is 'we've gotta work 2gather'
i think a better video WOULD be like a doc. but u know, show the prob.s that the team has to go through, during the 6-week building time, people to people and machanical... realistic...
and maybe not even show the comp., like, u see the team work, and then they arrive at the comp. but thats the cliffhager, (although that leaves out the most fun part of meeting people and such) atleast not nat.s b/c then u got 'they have to win b/c they're the main team (like the good guy always gets the girl)' or 'aw, they lose, but thats life!' ...yeah, i'd rather stick to the 'getting ready' and maybe show some comp.s, but not all the way, that puts too much expectations...

cud u stop w/ the frag. sentences because it is hrd. to read for me.

thnks.

Firewolf 30-05-2002 22:06

sorry, no, abstract thinking is a curse

STILL NOT SEEING IT!

I'm sry. but i still can't see any movie truly depicting FIRST to our benefit, even if it were an animated film (and even those have hot MTV chicks sometimes).

I say that if they were going to make a movie about FIRST that it should be a totally futuristic setting and totaly computer generated! I'm not talking like computer generated cartoons but all those futuristic tv-shows that used to be on on saturday mornings. The graphics that were in final fantasy... NOW THAT WOULD BE AWESOME!
