I just received a comment, should the Rookie All-Star move to Divisional or Overall?

edit/ changed to approbate.

now next change since Chairmans is so important, should the honorable mentions get points too??

Since the chairmans award is so important, the honorable mentions should get points too. I personally think honorable mentions should get 70 points.

Do we pick individuals for the WFA or the team that the WFA will come from?

The team.

Personally, i feel that Chairmans and WFA shouldnt be that high a point score. I think the name of the game should be the teams that are winning the matches, id knock down the point scores of Chairmans to about 15 and WFA to about 5.

It really is up to us to stand up for these principles so when we sell it to the general public we're not just feeding them some line because if we don't believe it, why should they?

Yeah Alex I guess i am in.

Again though, it is a fantasy league. Fantasy leagues are based on the principle of pure statistics, not involving awards or anything of the like. I obviously do respect the awards and stand up for their principles, but this is a league run by only highly involved FIRST'ers, not the general public. We know what these awards mean enough to respect them.

I understand both sides of the argument. They both have their valid points.
I'm going to side with Corey though.
Do football fantasy leagues give bonus points for winning MVP or rookie of the year?
Fantasy leagues are based on performance and statistics.

Yeah but there is no more pure statistic than who won what and you should be rewarded as such (this is why I always aim for Chairman's award favs and not HOF teams because they are excluded from those points).

Re: 2006 Championships FF Invitational League

The major arguement in any fantasy sport is "Should Awards be rewarded?"

It's obviously no different here. The major point is that the awards that are given out, are based off a group of peoples thoughts and opinions. Not how the player performs, which is the basis of any Fantasy League.

Simply put, with the outside interferences (judges), the league strays away from the performence of the team on the field.

This is true--in most sports, winning the big one is the pinnacle of a team's season. And performance in the areas that count the most get rewarded the most.

In FIRST, however, the areas that count are different. The big one has, for fifteen straight seasons, had absolutely nothing to do with performance on the field. Our Lombardi Trophy, our Stanley Cup, is a clock that goes to the best team in the event at what really counts--changing the culture. To score the league any other way would be, with all apologies to the non-wrestling fans, akin to putting the Intercontinental Championship ahead of the WWE Championship.

Just so i dont get flamed about it, its not like i dont like the chairman's award. But i think it serves little to no part in the league. Fantasy Leagues should be about performence on the field, not off.

Well why you guys like to point out how otehr fantasy sport leagues are what has to be pointed out is Fantasy FIRST isn't like any other sport.
The game changes every year as do the players and there is very little information to go on, especially in the early going. Now Chairman's award level teams are pretty easy to ID even easier than team known for strong robots (yes even they have off years) so the Chairman's award is practically a gift to us.

Corey Balint 26-02-2006 18:07

Re: 2006 Championships FF Invitational League

Well, I personally like a challenge, and if you look hard enough, you are able to find the winning robots easily.
And with the chairmans winners, as you said, they are easy to identify, which I think takes alot of fun out of the game.

I would not have figured 67 to win the Chairman's last year. I had a few teams ahead of them in mind and they won out so it's a little more complicated than that.

then, that's what gives you a trophy vs a L in a league. think about Football Fantasy. Do you pick all the players from the Texans because your a fan and you love them? Or do you pick players from the colts offense and the panthers D and so on?

Alex, i didnt understand the latter half of your point. Seems tohave no relevance...
I still think that since the chairmans is "chosen" by a panel, instead of a statistically based challenge or event, it should not be taken into consideration.

Exactly. You don't get points in fantasy baseball/football/basketball/whatever for having a guy who wins comeback player of the year/MVP/etc.

It's really lame that someone could hypothetically make three absolutely terrible picks and have zero halfway decent robots, but win the entire league because they had a team that won chairman's.

That's not true because your score will be knocked down due to your robots poor performance ( and you can only win the Chairman's award once so your two other robot are going to knock down your score anyways) and there have been well documented case of not so great robots riding the coattials of their partners to having a great day and good robots done in by really poor partners.

Yeah, but having an 80 point pickup...even with an 8 loss robot...they still make 48 points. Having a player ride a team is common though. Any football players performances are hindered or enhanced by the team surrounding them. Here it is no different.

I don't think it matters terribly, but I'll weigh in anyway. I vote yes to keep the Chairman's as part of the FF score. FIRST has a unique nature not found in professional sports in the community aspect, and thus Fantasy FIRST should be modified to support this nature.

It was discussed and the thing that keeps you out of this is. Missing draft picks in multiple leagues and not running your own league properly.

If you have a problem. PM me.

It's an invite league. You get in if you get invited, that's it.

Firsters and sports?!? Well, in an infinite universe anything is possible I guess. While 1derboy does meet some of the criteria so far (winning some FF divisions), I think we need to wait until all the other FF leagues have ended so we can have a list of all the FF winners and take a look at these people's drafting habits (such as showing up for them). And the final decision is Alex's since he is the host of this league.

well,i dunno about FIRSTand sports but i joined robotics the year after i was not allowed to play any more ocontact sports,so it worked out well for me i guess.

And yea, we will (the ones in the league) vote on who new is allowed to come in the league if i am questionable on someone. if ot my word stands and i say who goes in and whatnot.

By Tuesday, do you mean today, the 11th?

Or do you mean next Tuesday, the 18th?

It would seem smart to wait until the divisions are released. Reason one being that until then, all the pending teams can still pay up. Reason two being that certain teams can become more or less attractive based on the division they reside in.
