I don't like the fact our team will never be in the same division as 174, 175, 176, 178, 179, 180 no matter what happens. These are the other UTC sponsored teams and I would like to actually have the opportunity to be located in a close pit to them and compete with/against them. We always have 173 (Rage another UTC team) next to us but I'd be willing to give that up for some variety. Particularly 179 and 180 who are down in Florida and we never get to see up here in NE. Theoretically, right now we can only conceivably ever play each other in Einstien!

I still want them to bring back the 02 style of the 5 team chunks. It allowed me to find out about other teams plus with this format you do end up with the same teams year after year.

Re: 2006 Championship Divisions

that idea scares me.....

is this how they have done the divisions EVERY YEAR?

Re: 2006 Championship Divisions

This might involve a little work but...

How about ranking every team by the average amount of points they have scored each match they have played. In the case of a tie use something like number of wins or the flip of a coin to break the tie. Then the highest ranked team by this process goes to Archimedes, the second to Curie, the third to Galileo, the fourth to Newton, the fifth to Archimedes again, etc.

This ensures that each division is about equal (more equal than the current method), and ensures that a different assortment of teams are in each division, each year.

Re: 2006 Championship Divisions

Is it just me or are the teams currently listed in a bit of a random order on the FIRST site?

http://www.usfirst.org/frc/map/index...list&event=CMP

A division sort from that list may fix the issue of teams never getting to see the three teams on either side of them. Though Murphy may see it as the perfect opporutunity - fixing one problem will cause three new ones.

In my opinion, if you can recite their name and number then describe their robots from other years, then they are a well known team.

But aside from that, I really don't mind how FIRST does the selections for divisions. I have never really seen a need for splitting up the divisions further and doing more complicated selections. But as someone said above, they could just do it as when teams sign up.
