We can put them in with the red & orange division.

Also... teams with multi-colors (tie dye, rainbow, etc.) must play in all divisions in this scenario. That should be no problem.

Man it'd be nice if my two teams were in the same division... leave less running between pits for me. Looks like chances are slim though.

The Firebirds were scrambling for the money to register for the championships, but the school graciously offered to cover the registration fee on Tuesday (today) provided they promise to reimburse the money. I heard some good news from Karen (on 433) that they found an additional sponsor who will hopefully be able to reimburse the school for the registration fee. So the Firebirds will most definitely be at Atlanta this month! :D (even though I won't attending with the team, I'm really siked for them; I'll be with them in spirit)

I really hope FIRST has some creativity and mixes up the division selection this year. They could do it a number of ways:

... or, they can just do the ABCD method.

How about a - gasp! - serpentine selection: ABCD, DCBA, ABCD, etc.

personally i would like to see FIRST just to 2 at a time. Like AABBCCDD etc. There are too many teams that are right next to each other in numerical sequence that never get to play each other.

like when i was on 73 we always were with HOT (67) but never with beaty (71)...it would just help mix things up a bit and it isn't that hard to implement

uhoh, i dont really do much in the rumor mill but.

I see one dominate team in the first division. we shall see if they stay that way.

Geographically: west, east, south, north

I was told, by a very reliable source (of course, I cannot disclose the name :ahh: ), that is was going to be by geographic location, with the N - S- E - W division borders determined by the locations of teams.

I understand that this decision has been made because the continual debate on which region is toughest is eating up too much space on Chief Delphi and makes the moderators work soo hard editing obsenities from posts. So, Brandon Martus convinced Woody and Dean to resolve it once and for all by having a showdown in the finals. This will finally answer the question on the playing field.

To make it a real test of the best, AFTER the division finals, the winning alliance captain can then re-select the other two teams to compete for the Championship out of everyone in their division. And, if they are truly full of GP, they could even give their captaincy to another team if they felt that would provide the BEST - BEST alliance for the Einstein matches.

It's all true, or Andy Baker is not my cousin. :)

very interesting. if divsions were picked by region, wouldnt it be like a super regional? most of the teams you compete aganst would be teams you saw during regionals (unless you went to a different region ie. 233 to boston). and where do international teams fit in

then if you were to :

technically, wouldnt the winning alliance be the bst in their division? y would they want to change the alliance?

ps. i wouldnt mind having divsional championships

i hope first mixes things up but there is a saying if it is not broken do not fix it. Besides at the reagionals i went to i heard a bunch of teams complain about who they were with and against. I think someone from 48 talked about how he wished he was with or against us once.

Ah yes, that would have been me. We never faced or allied with 25 at New Jersey. We found that to be...disappointing.

Even in later regionals, we faced teams multiple times while not ever seeing others. I still think this can be improved upon.

Match list generation is a completely separate topic from the divisional selection criteria, because no matter which teams populate the division, the problem of facing teams multiple times while never seeing others will still be there.

I know a certain Canadian UFH and Head Referee who created a certain match list generation routine that was used very briefly in a few competitions but was then inexplicably discarded. His algorithm worked very well to reduce and/or eliminate the problems mentioned above. I have no idea why FIRST chose to abandon it.

There has been a lot of discussion about "Random" Match List Generation on this forum , tough issue with no easy answer.

maybe, but not always - the winning alliance was the best combination of three teams from the way the draft is set up, but not necessarily the three "best" teams in the division to go forward and play. Think about it like Little League baseball. There is a season champion team, but then players from all of the teams become the all-stars.

Its all in fun, anyway.
