black 1999 Honda Civic Si with AEM cold air intake and GReddy exhaust and lowering springs...
no turbo..yet... |
I drive a mostly white (it's a little rusty) 1984 Toyota Corrolla. It is a manual transmission with a replacement floor board and wheel well courtisy of a Kenmore Dryer. My parents bought it when I was born and we've had it ever since. I get all kinds of people asking me how I fit in it because I'm 6'4". I decided against bringing it to IRI to save everyone the pain of looking at it and I didn't want to put it through the torture of five miles on the interstate.

Are you refering to a Golf Gti or Rabbit Gti? The a1 chassis is less lovable then the a2 chassis found on the 1986+ Vdubs
What about a 2.0 L 16v putting out 150bhp in a 1600 lb. car? Gotta love VW's |
it is a2 golf git that i speak of. it rocks. mk4 1.8T gti rocks more though ;)

now that i am in college though i drive a '99 green Jeep Grand Cheroke Limited with a V8 |
Good call, i will stop the chit chat.
I dont think its necessary for a VW thread, unless more ppl are interested. |
A SKATEBOARD!!!:D
|
I remember seeing this thread way back when and thinking I'll never have a car to drive.
But now, that changed. I have my parents '96 Ford Windstar, because my mom got a "new" (used) car cause she's driving 60+ miles a day to work now. So, for senior year, I get to drive a midnight red windstar to high school. Oh, and it has 5 bike racks on top. Oh yeah, who's bling bling now? :) |
And then there is my "car" I drive around in this summer. Its pretty cool because its a 1999 Ford/Leader Type II ambulance. :D

I love my car, but this morning when we were doing a presentation for robotics at the Arden Fair (in Delaware), I leaned into my car to get a banner out, and as I did so, my car burned me...
(thanks to my GReddy exhaust... that ring is as big as it is  )http://www.geocities.com/surgeboy101/burn.jpg (if this link doesn't work copy+paste it into a new window) |
I'm almost done detailing my 99 Ford Ranger 4x4. I armor all-ed all the outside plastic pieces, degreased the entire engine compartament and washed it out, aromor all-ed all rubber and plastic under the hood, washed and waxed the whole thing, polished the tires, polished the chrome, cleaned the aluminum wheels, and armor all-ed the inner fender linings.
I think I'm forgetting something I did but I don't know what. I was going to clean the whole underneath but I'm too tired after all the above. I still have to clean the spare tire and check all the tire pressures, clean the windows, re-attatch part of my American flag sticker that is peeling, vacumn the interior, and wash the floor mats. The whole process will have taken about 6 or 7 hours when done. I plan on getting a Dynomax cat-back exhaust system sometime soon. I will also be adding a high flow cone filter intake if I can find where to mount a supporting bracket. |
Selling my ride
Well, today I decided to sell my car. Heres the for sale site www.xpalendocious.com . The only reason Im selling it is to get another car, as my parents wont let me own 2.

My sister did it like 2-3 years ago, when we had a major flood (amazing, first one we've ever had). That'll probably be what my instructor does. |
After the 1994 Ford Taurus i was supposed to be getting was totaled, i'm getting my grandfather's 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass-Sierra. haha it sounds old, but get this...47,500 miles on it, and all it needs is a new paint job and radio...now all i need is a license...
|
Quote:
It still performs decently, and can go fast enough, although I don't know how fast cause the speedometer stops at 85 and faster than that you can't tell. And I think it is a great-looking car. but thats just me. If your cutlass really has one third of the mileage on my car, it should run great and last forever. Just don't crash it. |

Today I dropped the clutch in my dads car...and I dropped the tranny!!

What do you guys think of A 1996 Pontiac Grand Am GT??
Im thinking about getting one, but I know nothing about them. Good bad otherwise? Kevin |
lets see...when my grandfather died he left he his 1989 oldsmobile cutlass cierra, 47,500 miles. Since he left it to me, he gave my aunt money to buy a new car, and my aunts car went to my cousin.... my cousin's car was just stolen and my aunt decided that she didn't feel like going out to look for a new car yet...so right now i've got the family back up truck...1994 dodge dakota, 60k mi. Now i just need a license...

They are OK cars - but when something starts to go wrong w/ them - get rid of it right away. ALL my expierence w/ front wheel drive vehicles (yes - ALL of them, imports and domestics) is that when one thing starts to fail - there will be a whole nother thing wrong w/ it when you fix that one thing. Personally I recommend getting a rear wheel drive vehicle. They are much better to work on and if something does happen - it doesn't cost as much to fix as would a compartivite rear wheel drive vehicle. :) Might I recommend a 91+ Cherokee w/ the 4.0 I-6 as your first vehicle? :D |
If I had to choose between a front wheel drive car and a rear wheel, I would take a front wheel drive car. I've never had any trouble with them and they have more stability than rear wheel drive cars. Since force is being applied in front of the CG of the car, then the engine is basically "pulling" the car down the road, much like pulling a trailer behind a truck. With rear wheel drive, the engine is "pushing" the car, which increases side-to-side instability, like trying to back up with a trailer behind you. I have had no problem with my Eclipse (front wheel drive). It's nice in the snow, too.

Re: What kind of car do you drive??
I got three cars: 87 Caprice Classic Estate Wagon(9 passenger)
68 Mustang coupe 97 Camry The Chevy Caprice I've had since '95. It's gold with blonde woodgrain trim and biege interior. Factory Olds 307 underhood still running strong with no major engine work at 170,000. I kept it because when I bought the Camry they refused to take it as a trade( too old and mileage too high even though it's in good shape and has been kept maintained). I might also wind up restoring it , think how popular the 1969 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser is on 'That 70's Show'! We've also used it to haul our robot with and pile people in it to go to local competitions. It's got "wells" in the back to keep tools, extention cords, ect. At local robot events it's been decorated with streamers, lights, balloon animals, and glitter. The Mustang is used for car shows and cruises only. I've been slowly restoring it since I bought it in '98. It's Acapulco blue with black interior originally from Costa Mesa, CA. I even have paperwork from the original owner. It has 81,000 on the original 289 under the hood. It also has a C-4 automatic, power steering, and AM radio(converted internally to FM). I've also brought it to some of team 237's fundraisers to attract attention to our team. The Camry is just my everyday commuter. I can go almost all week with a tank of gas. With the wagon I would have to fill up every 2 days! |

Re: What kind of car do you drive??
An 1984 Oldsmobile Omega is my primary car, which used to be my great-grandmothers car (but she doesn't drive anymore). Incredibly clean. I just turned over 60,000 miles on it. Not bad for a car that's 3 years older than I am :)
Every once in a while I'll drive the family cars: 2002 Pontiac Bonneville and 1998 Chevy Tahoe. My mom won't let anybody else drive her 1984 Camaro though :D One of my great-uncles has a 1966 Mustang, and my grandparents have a 1962 Buick Wildcat, so I guess old cars run in the family. |

I used to have a Citation, the Chevy version of the Omega, which I miss. It was a biege 81 two door with four on the floor. I only wished it was an X11! :D We got a new car and got rid of the Citation at 130,000 still running strong. Some of the parts are interchangable with the Omega, Citation, and Pontiac's version the Pheonix(the most rare of the three). Oh well, just hearing someone with an Omega brought back memories and I just had to add this post. :p |

Re: What kind of car do you drive??
Sorry Matt (I know you're a Jeep lover) but to be honest My dad has had some pretty big problems with his two Jeeps pretty early on. My mom has had a TON of problems on her 1994 Cadillac Seville SLS even though it just now turned 30K mi. I have had no problems yet with my Ford Ranger and I've seen probably about a dozen of them with over 200K mi and dozens more with well over 100K mi. In support of Jeeps, I have seen a few of those up in the 1 and 2 hundred thousands and I really like Jeeps still even though they may have some problems.
For all of you supporters of foreign cars with their super high tech variable valve timing and all that junk, get behind the wheel of an American V8 and you will be changed forever. There is nothing like the sound and power of an American V8; especially with dual Flowmasters. <insert Tim Allen grunting sound> Saddly for me, Ranger's don't come with V8s (yet, there is rumor they will for 2005 or 2006) but someday I may do a swap. I like American vehicles, mainly trucks, (1) because I fit in them and (2) because they just seem fit to a large strong person like myself. It freaks me out when I go look at these new Infinitis and you barely touch the door and it closes and you can't even hear the engine idling. I like a car where you have to slam the door closed and it's loud when you start it up and when it's running. And none of this unibody junk, if it doesn't have a standard ladder frame I'm not driving it. Oh, and IRS SUVs, forget about it. I can live with IFS but I won't be in favor of anything other than a solid axle out back. And traction control: If you're driving to the extent where you need that traction control, you are either not being careful, don't know how to drive, or need to make your schedule not so busy. If you are driving in the manner that you actually need the traction control, you should not be driving at all. Two more things, turn signals should be used at every corner, driveway entrance/exit, or lane change you perform. Where I live it is a beautiful day when you see someone signalling. It's a rarity around here. The second thing is the horn, people way over-use the horn. You should drive in a maner where you never have to use the horn. I have used it ONCE in the 14 or so months I have been driving my truck. The California driver's handbook says that the horn is only to be used in an emergency. Honking at someone because you're impatient or they are in your way is not an emergency. Well, that's all I have to say about cars and driving today, tune in next time folks! |

I drive a 1996 Maroon/silver S-10 w/ LS trim package and a 5-speed...don't see that too often. The 5spd is the only thing that makes up for the lack of power that the 2.2L 4cyl vortec puts out. One thing that I have learned from driving this car...i never ever ever ever ever want to own a car with an automatic transmission...ever. For some reason my parents are really over-protective about their cars...so i am never allowed to drive them to school, but most other places are fine...2003 maroon TrailBlazerEXT 5.3L Vortec...2003 blue Pontiac Vibe 1.8L Toyota engine...an incredible engine...a lot better than my 2.2L vortec...I only wish that it was the GT (180hp 1.8L, 6-speed manual, 4 wheel disc brakes, 4 wheel independent suspension...) but since my mom can't drive a stick, that was out of the question. :(
