Major Modifications are coming soon!! (Hopefully)

So, I have had this thing for about a year and a half now and have started to gut the thing completely. Body, Interior, everything except the engine.

This is what It will (hopefully) look like when I am done with it.

The removable top will be some color of Orange I have yet to pick out, probably either the Chrysler colors of Vitamin C, or Hemi Orange. I don't know yet.

As for the blue, I want it a nice rich royal blue, like the new PT cruisers, or even the new Saturn SUV's I have seen. Something bright.

and i have a Plymouth Neon too.. 98' i think dodge sounds better than plymouth.. its less letters to write anyways. well, the thing special about my car is, it has no power anything whatsoever. no power windows, locks, seats, nothing. no AC either. gotta fix that.. oh, and also the engine has no power either. 3 spd automatic and most hills it drops to second. bleh  and its a 2liter engine too. wonder why its so weak.. help, anyone? :yikes:

Don't ask questions.. Just accept it, or go around and beat the heck out of it and risk it blowing up.. :yikes: How many miles on it, and did your speedometer and fuel gauges start "freaking out" yet??

Grady, where are you.. You need to respond to this too.. lol

You're lucky you don't have AC.. The AC just acts as one more system to make the electrical system freak out and make the whole overall car's power weaker. :ahh:

id definitly start fiddling with everything on it if only i didnt need to share it with my sister who is one year older than me... it doesnt have too many miles on it and the fuel gauge is kinda hard to freak for the gas tank just holds 10 gallons.

How could you!?!! That thing replaced the legendary Cherokee! Solid Axles Forever! IFS in a Jeep just makes no sense to me. The Cherokee was the vehicle that saved the Jeep company from near collapse back in I think it was 84. It truly was legendary. With minor updates they could have keeped it for another 6 years at least, not replace it with something inferior. To be fair to both sides of the issue I have seen some pretty cool lifted and modded Libertys What is even scarier is the styling of future Jeeps. I have seen some concept vehicles that have not been released to ANYONE (media, etc.) -- as in they are at least 4+ years away -- and all I have to say is they are downright ugly. I sure hope they never make it to production. At least they are putting the HEMI in the Grand Cherokee for 05 and aside from the styling downgrade (IMHO), the 05 GC should ROCK!

The Jeep liberty not only replaced the cherokee it gave the consumer an intermediate choice between the rough wrangler and the plush cherokee the cherokee was not replaced all together they are still in production, the liberty was never ment to completly replace the cherokee. The liberty is still trail rated and can preform on the trails like the wrangler but has a little more comfort but not as much comfort as the cherokee, and all 3 vehicles the wrangler, liberty and the cherokee preform very well on the trails, on the road and in over all safety.

I have seen all of the concept vehicles up close at camp jeep this past weekend and they look very cool (IMHO). And I can't wait untill they are put into production.

My liberty is completly stock, all it has is 3 skid plates, a class three hitch, tow hooks, and rock rails thats it! No lift no special tires or anything. How could you say that the liberty is inferior???? I took that liberty on two different trails the first was a beginers course because i have never taken the vehicle off road, the second was and intermediate course, that liberty went where some wranglers and cherokees couldn't. I am very proud of my liberty and i can't wait untill Camp Jeep # 11 next year.

You really should of taken that money and spent it on a Dodge Dakota. SO much more room. The Colorados that we have been getting at my dealership are WAY TOO SMALL for me - I'd rather get an S-10 (which the Colorado replaced) before the Colorado...

Don't be too surprised.
Jaguars have a reputation of being disaterous as well and the lowest rated car in customer stisfaction now are Humvees.
Just because it comes with a big price tag doesn't always equate to a quality product.
Truth be told of all the places he worked the cars that impressed him the most were Subaru's.
You had to deny the things matinace and oil to kill them. They didn't break themselves.
I will make sure and ask my stepdad alot of question before I buy the hybrid Escape (never buy a car in it's 1st year of production he said. Lot's of bugs to work out. So that's one strike against it).

I would like to point out that I work at an automotive repair shop with about 10 employees and at least half of them own and drive jeeps regularly. They are great cars, especially the wranglers, which are very easy to work on. I do agree with you that Subaru's are great cars.

The Festiva has potential...I have seen one that runs sub-14 sec. 1/4 mile times (for those that don't know how fast that is, it is faster than most stock vehicles). It was called the Fastiva and had a Taurus SHO motor in the rear. The guy took the whole front clip out of a Ford Taurus SHO cut the back of the Festiva out to put the front clip from the Taurus in. The whole project was done with less than $2000 and was done well. It did have widened fenders to accomodate the wider stance of the donor car. I will try to locate a picture (or several) if I can, but no luck so far.

No power anything eh? I bet you have power steering and a power brake booster, and you have A/C...your car is equipped with more than you think. I am the one with power nothing...I have power for the radio, the lights, and the starter.

For what I drive:
1968 Gold Dodge Dart...170 Slant Six...Three on the tree with an unsynchronized first gear (meaning you have to be stopped to put the car in first)...what a fun car.

I also have a 1973 Dodge Dart with a 225 slant six and an automatic...but that just sits around.

I used to have a 1972 SAAB 99E (never drove it though)...amazingly advanced car for its day...first production car to have heated seats (yes my drivers seat was heated) and 5 mph bumpers (both of those came out in '72...so my car was one of the first to have them). The car also had electronic fuel injection and a few other tidbits that made it ahead of its time (including wires running EVERYWHERE).

My "ride" is a 1989 Toyota Camry LE V6.

Pretty cool 'cept for the fact that it:
  1. Hasn't moved in over three years
  2. Has about every liquid possible leaking out of it
  3. And is rusted through and through on all four quarter panels.
Other than that it's a great car, it even has that nice new car scent. :)

BTW did I forget to mention that it only has a mere 250,000 miles on it.

Depends on which year you get. As far as I know, there was never a 5.8 Crown Vic. Most Vic's running around these days have a 4.6 or 4.8. The only real difference between the police versions and stock versions as far as the engine goes is that the police versions have no governor and remapped engine curves. They will just keep going in 5th till they blow up.

Other differences lay mostly in suspension, the electrical system and a relocated spare (under the trunk instead of in it). Oh, and the nifty spot light that you can play with- Just don't let a cop see it on!

I belive the Caprice Classic Interceptors have a Corvette engine in them, which is 5.8L if I'm not mistaken. Though most Chevys that are converted to interceptors blow their engines, even the 'Vette ones. The cops that I've talked to like the Fords much more. There are also anti-sway bars and a 2" lift (stiffer springs) on the interceptor along with lots of steel re-enforcements in the sides and such. Mines putting out about 240-250 hp with slightly more torque, but they weigh a ton, well, over 2 actually: about 4400 lbs. About 2X Andy's Miata (very fun car).

Re: What kind of car do you drive??

People, people, people...:D

The police package for the Caprice Classic had the LS1 in it (Old-RWD Caprice), 5.7 (350) Corvette engine in it. Now they use the 3.8 V-6 (NON-Supercharged) and FWD (Looked down on very much) Impala. Usually they use these vehicles for inner city patrols and not for chases. (Very heavy car. 0-60 in about 9 seconds)

The police package for the Crown Vic has the 4.6 - just slightly modified, The older ones used 5.0 High output - and even older ones used a 5.8 2bbl carb (Old-school). Pretty plain and simple. Cop's like the RWD and the Crown Vic has been around since the dawn of the Earth - and Ford prices them just right so they stick with them. They even have good power (even for the heavy Crown Vic body)

Now Chrysler (even though that I am a HUGE Mopar fan) has been a joke on their part for cop-car packages and that is why you don't see many cars for them. But hopefully that'll change with the magnum...:)

Hope this helps out a little bit!! ;)

Also - about the blowing engines part - I have never seen/heard of that. Cops blow the suspension apart due to how hard they are on it but the 350's/LS1's are a VERY STRONG MOTOR. (And they all have to have goveners on the RPM side. If you don't you can revv the engine in neutral until it blows (under 20 seconds) - but don't get this confused with a Speed govner. You can go as fast as the engine can get you until the friction of the wind stops you! :))

Here in CT the state police do have Dodge Intrepids in thier fleet although most of the cars are Crown Vics. I don't know what, if any, mods were done to the Intrepids mechanically from regular production.

As a side note, I believe one of the worst things GM did was to cancel the Caprice several years ago without having a replacement available. This basically gave Ford the whole police and taxi business. It's true the new Impala is being used by some departments but it doesn't match up to what the Caprice (older Impala) was.

(and for the record, I do own a Caprice...........an '87 9 pass wagon, 167,200 on the odo)

Re: What kind of car do you drive??

I have seen unmarked Intrepids around where I live, and the cheif runs an unmarked Taurus. In Mass. I've heard that the highway patrol has been started to use 'Stang 5.0s on the highway. I've even heard rumors that a PD in the midwest got a Ferrari to keep up on the highways there. Maybe we'll be seing a 300M cruiser, that'd be sweet.

Fairfax County has some Corvettes with the LZ1 (or whatever that big engine is). Those things can move.

How'd you guess that I didn't get enough sleep?

i have a white 1993 Ford Explorer. its a great car but i have only two comlplaints: 1- i learned to drive in a V8 truck that has a lot more power and its hard sometimes to get up to speed when merging on the freeway. 2- im to cheap to go out to get a stereo. right now i am trying to listen to a cd player that is hooked up to the tape deck via one of the connector thingies... otherwise its a great car.

I've got a Buick Century- Gold... your typical elderly woman's car. I (along with a couple of my friends) named her Squishy from Finding Nemo. She's Floridian! 2in lift? My dad is a cop in Southfeild, Mi, and I've talked to the fleet manager for the department before and she said they all have a 1in drop from the factory... And as Matt said, the LS1 is an insanely strong motor. There are even vids of one with 7 turbos and mostly stock internals (no joke, seriously) floating around

Matt Attallah 14-12-2004 23:21

Re: What kind of car do you drive??

Hrm...

Ok - time for me to inject some more info in here... :D

1. When going fast is your business - you drop your suspension. Better handling/less sway/ect. Lifting is meant for OFF-ROAD only. The more you lift, the more you are a brick in the wind, able to have body sway, and have worse handling.

2. It's physically impossible for an engine to have "7 Turbos" and keep stock internals. You can run a supercharger or turbocharger (ONE) at around 5-7 psi on a lower-compression engine with premium - but anything more WILL REQUIRE MORE WORK. The most an engine can have is 5 forced inductions. Needs to be in a "V" configuration, and have quad-turbo (Twin turbo on each side of the engine - 4 intakes right there) and one supercharger on top. Anything more will be useless/bog the motor down (and a HUGE waste of money.)

350's are strong - but not bullet-proof. I've seen a lot of the Vortech 4.3 V-6/5.7 V-8 have problems with their upper and lower intake gaskets. They rupture causing a bad leak of coolant, but GM is known for this...(3.1, 3.4, 3.8, ect... )

3. Every vehicle out there has anti-sway bars. They are called "Sway Bars" and help to stop the roll of the body. If you off-road you disconnect these so you can get better 'flex' out of your suspension.

So all n' all - I don't want to start any wars here or make enemies - just pointing out fact from fiction!

Wetzel, what year Vette? An older version proally' has the LT5 in it...(I would give my left leg for that engine) All aluminium, DOHC engine. Holds *10* quarts of oil w/ oil filter. Very Bad-Butt engine.

Stina - about your Century, there are versions that have a 3800 Series (3.8L) supercharged - so Buick can come up and suprise ya. Got the 3.8 under the hood? If you don't have the supercharged one and you want to under-take a project for after the build seasion I think you should swap in the Supercharged one! :D

Chrysler does have some vehicles in fleet - but they have not been modified in any way for the engine. Same stock power as what you can buy off the dealer showroom. That's why Chrysler hasn't seen anything latley - just have nothing to offer...

I think that's enough for now... :)

Just going by what the site said... I'd assume that the crank and a few other rotating parts were swapped, maybe they meant the same pistons/rings and whatnot? :ahh:

This isn't entirely accurate...you can have 7 turbos, but they would have to be in series which would negate their purpose and would not gain any power for anything past the first one. And you can have more than 4 turbos on a large engine (12+ cylinders) and still have them be efficient. But in general, your knowledge is correct.

In general this is correct, but there are a few (maybe only a couple) of cars out there without sway bars. Sorry I can't hink of any of them right now, but if I remember them I will get back to you.

The pistons and connecting rods are usually the weakest parts in the engine when it comes to forced induction. Forged pistons and rods are needed for a car running high boost.

I drive...

different cars depending on the weather. My first car (and my baby) is an 86 Camaro. Unfortunately, its automatic, and...a six *sniff sniff*. Oh well. I'm running a nice little system in it though. Alpine mp3 player up front, sony 6x9s in the sides, and two 12" X-plods. Yea, there's better out there, but they were free. Only problem with the camaro is its got t-tops that leak. So rain means garage time for my baby, at which point I pull out my 91 Prelude SI. Now THERE'S a fun car. The guy that owned him before me (incidently my cousin's counsin) used to race, so he swapped in an H22 engine. Its manual, and it hauls. Then of course we've got our 2000 F-250 Superduty with the powersroke v8 turbo diesel. Yay for towing power and a huge bed. And of course, what family is complete without the minivan. Its a chysler town and country...NEVER BUY ONE! THEY SUCK! We've spent so much money on it just trying to keep it running...grr. I'm also about to graduate, which means I get a new car...so I'm seriously looking at the 2005 Neon SRT-4. I drove an 04 srt-4 a few weeks ago...and all I can say is WOW. Anyways, just my contribution to this thread.

Your truck started out white, so you can do whatever you like. I've been a "hot rodder, car guy, motor head, etc. for 30+ years and if it were me, I'd paint it Mopar Lime Green with a mat black hood and roof. Give it a Challenger or 'Cuda vibe, even cut in a readily available hemi shaker hood piece. Finish it off with a set of black off-road bead lock rims...$@#$@#$@#$@#$@#in'!!!
