A NYC FIRST (which I think there already is) and an Upstate NY FIRST may be a better idea.

Jeesh Ed, you call where you guys are upstate?? Have you ever been to The Frozen Tundra(aka Potsdam) :P.

Okay so you are seriously doing this. I would agree with Ed. There is already a Rochester FIRST group. Also try to get a main sponsor for this, such as NiagraFIRST has thier main sponsor. Good luck.

I think that its a great idea. Agree with Ian that maybe not good for teams outside the city, but it would be a way to help out disadvantaged teams all at once, instead of one at a time and not getting them all.

It's an excellent start!
Remember, there are also a number of teams in the Albany area too. That region is slowly growing.
The Long Island, NY area has numerous FRC teams that are very strong and competitive. And all the Directors of the NYS regionals (Rochester, NYC, Long Island) in all know each other! So why not the teams too.

Your effort to tie the whole state together will definitely make all the NYS teams stronger. Many NYC teams already attend the Long Island Regionals which they call their home regional. I can see NYC teams travelling to Rochester too (there are a lot of colleges up (North) there that do attract many FRC students).

And don't forget the FLL members, they are your future FRC resources. :]

Looks real nice. More communication is always a good thing.

Tim, every thing north of City is considered Upstate. Happened all the time living in Rome which is near the geographical middle of New York. We called it Central, everyone else called it Upstate. Shesh. :yikes:

There DEFINATELY need to be more teams in the middle ground between City and Rochester. You all know I'm working on that.

1. To Bring together all New York Teams
2. To educate the public about FIRST and teach its mission
3. To help start new FIRST teams (FLL, FVC or FRC)
4. To help struggling teams still be able to participate
5. To create a better FIRST experience

What things would be done? (examples)

1. NY wide fundraising for teams
2. To create more Regionals and off/pre season events
3. A place to help FIRST students get internships

In case you couldnt figure it out, this would be for NY teams, whether it be FRC, FLL or FVC teams.
This would help expand FIRST to those School Districts that may not have the neccesary resources to create teams.

What are your thoughts on this?
(more info will be posted soon)
More info can be obtained by emailing 1591.FIRST@gmail.com

This would most likely be run by Rochester Area Teams (because my team is located in rochester and would be easier to run working with local teams) but i would like reps. from around NY (at least one from every team)

Info will be available at NYFIRST.team1591.com soon (this is not a site yet) i will post when this site is up

PS: this is an idea from my head, not from my team, do not contact them about it only me!

Here is the logo design you asked for.
Now, before you have a fit let me explain: While it is admirable that you have this ambitious plan for NY FIRST I think you may be biting off more than you can chew.
I do not think NY City FIRST needs our assistance. They have things well under control as does Rochester FIRST but the rest of the state could use our help. Buffalo, Syracuse and Albany are under represented and Binghamton and Utica don't even have teams. That is where our focus should be.

well, all the talk of NYC not being involved is confusing. If the teams that have the resources and funds want to be involved they can.......just to put that out there

Any plans about holding a meeting at FLR? At the very least it would be a good chance to network your idea. Maybe say over the lunch breaks or a few minutes at the day's end. I will be there Thursday morning so feel free to look me up.

the Buffalo area definately needs help. We achieved a milestone this year, the 1st Buffalo area team ever (team 1765: ERIE 1 BOCES from Cheetowaga!).

Its a start - there are about 20 other high schools in Erie County (Buffalo and its suburbs).

(the nearest team to Buffalo before this year is Lockport/Delphi)

I always thought that Lockport and NEwfane were part of the Buffalo area.

I think that this is a great idea but that the hand book is a little too broad maybe you should aim for one area like buffalo and then go to the next area. just so it would be managable
